The ceremony of installation was next proceeded with , and after the usual preliminaries , Bro . H . L . Rocca , P . M ., P . S . G . D ., presented

the W . AI . Elect ( Bro . Ephraim Harris ) to the Installing Master ( Bro . VV . R . Sowter ) , who thereupon , with all due rite and ceremon }* , inducted him into the chair of K . S . The W . AI . having been saluted , then invested the following brethren as his officers for the ensuing year : Bros . John Sheldrick , S . VV . ; J . F . Anderson , J . VV . ; A . Bickley ( re appointed ) . Sec . ; Dr . J . St . Patrick Riley , S . D . ; VV . Fell , J . D . ; T . Newton , I . G . ; J . L . Dyson , Org . ;

Bryce Blair , D . Foulkes , and H . VV . Riley , Stewards ; and J . Sly , Tyler . Bro . S . Renshaw had been previously elected Treasurer , but , owing to indisposition , was not present to be invested . The addresses to the W . AL were delivered by Bro . VV . F . Towle , to the Wardens by Bro . H . L . Rocca , and to the brethren by Bro . VV . R . Sowter . Bro . VV . F . Towle concluded the ceremony with prayer . The W . M . said the first pleasing duty he had to perform

in his new capacity was to propose that Bro . VV . R . Sowter , LP . AL , be retained as Charity Representative for the lodge at the East Lancashire Systematic Alasonic Educational Institution , as he was quite Mire no one more fitted for that office could be found in the lodge . The proposition was carried , and " Hearty good wishes " having been expressed by the lodge , the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The brethren afterwards celebrated the festival of St .

John at a banquet , which was well served , and on the conclusion of which , they returned to the lodge-room , where dessert had been prepared for them . The W . AL proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were duly henoured , chat of " The V . W . D . P . G . AL Bro . George Mellor ; " and "The Present and Past Provincial Grand Officers , " being responded to by Bro . Jas . Heelis , P . G . Registrar .

In proposing "Thc Health of the W . AI , " Bro . W . R . Sowter , I . P . M ., said that Bro . Harris most worthily occupied his present position , having tilled every office in the lodge except Org ., in a manner that the Blair Lodge had never before seen excelled , and he trusted his year of office would be marked with more success than any other . He asked the brethren to cordially drink his health . The W . AL thanked them all for the habitual kindness

they had shown him . He came amongst them almost a stranger , but had found the right hand of fellowship extended to him on all sides , and this proved what good . Masonry could do throughout the world . He assured them he thoroughly appreciated the hommr that day bestowed upon him , and would do his best to discharge the important duties connected with the office . Before sitting down the W . AI . said it gave him great

pleasure to propose "The Health of their LP . AL , Bro . Sowter . " He felt sure there was not one who did not know and approve of the valuable services Bro . Sowter had rendered to the lodge during his two years' Alastership , and it was almost impossible to over-estimate such services . It afforded him the liveliest satisfaction to present Bro . Sowter , in the name of the lodge , with a Past Alaster ' s gold jewel , as a slight acknowledgment of his services , and he felt

certain that no jewel was ever pinned on the breast of a man more deserving of it j and he was sure the brethren wished , with him , that Bro . Sowter might long be spared to wear this , and still higher honours . The W . AL concluded by remarking that he hoped the fact of the cost of this jewel being entirely defrayed by the members of the lodge , and not taken from the lodge funds , would enhance its value in the eyes of their LP . AL

The jewel , which was made of 15-carat gold , and suspended b y three handsome bars , was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street . Bro . Sowter , in a very humoursome speech , said he required nothing to remind him he had done his duty , as the applause of the brethren and the hearty manner in which they had responded to the toast was quite sufficient for him . He , however , assured them he should always look upon the jewel as a visible token of their esteem .

Bro . A . Bickley proposed "The Health of the P . AI . ' s , " which was responded to by Bro . H . L . Rucca . Several other toasts were proposed and responded to , including that of "The Initiate , " "Visitors , " "Success to the Blair Lodge , " and after spending a most enjoyable evening the brethren separated . The musical portion of the programme was entrusted to and most ably carried out by those well-known executants , Bros . Dumville , A . Lewtas , and H . C . Aliller .

JARROW . —St . Bede Lodge ( No . 1119 ) . —On the 16 th inst . an emergency meeting of this thriving lodge was held in the Masonic Hall , Grange-road , when there was a good attendance of the brethren . the distinction thus conferred , would be continued as often as the Deputy Grand Master ' s engagements would permit . Bro . Thrupp , in reply , thanked the brethren lor the warm reception that had been accorded to him that day , both in and out of lodge . The Hemming was interesting to him from the fact that Dr . Deputy Alaster ' s , mother Lodge of Harmony , and what was still more curious , the ceremony had been performed in that very hotel . He congratu ated the lodge upon its working , and expressed a hope that the new officer-, who had been appointed that evening would endeavour to emulate the exertions of their older brethren , and thus preserve the prestigeof No . 1512 . enhance in every way , both the financial and working positions ' of the lodge . "The Masonic Charities" was coupled with the name of Bro . Rowe was passed to the Second Degree . The accounts having been audited , the W . M . stated that a balance in favour of the lodge was in the hands of the Treasurer .

certain that no jewel was ever pinned on the breast of a man more deserving of it j and he was sure the brethren wished , with him , that Bro .

Bro . He , however , assured them he should always look upon the jewel as a visible token of their esteem .

Bro . A . Bickley proposed "The Health of the P . AI . ' s , " which was responded to by Bro . H . L . Rucca .
