ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .
The General Committee of this institution met on Thursday last , at Freemasons' Hall , when Bro . Col . Creaton presided . There were also present : Bros . John A . Rucker , Frank Richardson , Fredk . Adlard , J . H . Matthews , Arthur E . Gladwell , Joshua Nunn , F . J . Caney , Robert Grey ,
and E . C Alassey ( Freemason ) . The minutes of the meeting of the General Committee of 28 th ult . were read and confirmed , and the minutes of the House and other Committees were read for information . One petition was considered , and the child named in it was added to the list of candidates for next election . Bro . FRANK RICHARDSON gave notice of amotion to be
proposed at the next meeting of the General Committee , for the increase of salaries of the governesses and teachers as recommended by the House Committee . Bro . RICHARDSON then moved that the salary of Miss Gardener commence at £ 20 a year . He said Aliss Gardener had been hitherto a pupil teacher , and they were only following their usual custom , on appointing heron the regular
staff , to fix her salary at the sum mentioned . Bro . RICHARDSON next moved tbat the sum of £ j ios . each be granted , under law No . 72 , in behalf ot Aliss Goodridge and Aliss Hinson , as recommended by the House Committee , to enable them to attend classes on the theory of music , and obtain certificates of proficiency . Bro . RICHARDSON explained that the two pupils named
in his resolution had made very great progress in music , but required the finishing touch which he had indicated to fit them thoroughly to turn their musical education to account . The suggestion was made by Miss Davies , and the certificates they would obtain would be of inestimable value to them . Bro . RICHARDSON also moved that during the erection
of the swimming bath , the Chairman of this Committee be authorised to sign cheques on account of same , upon production of the architect ' s certificates . That resolution , he said , was also recommended by the House Committee , in order to remove the difficulty of having to keep the builder waiting for his money until the next monthly meeting , the paying of the builders as the work progressed being , as the
Committee were aware , the ordinary course of procedure . Lastly , Bro ; Richardson moved the adoption ot a recommendation of the House Committee , with reference to the grant made on behalf of Lily Maria Searle , under Law No . 72 . _ The recommendation was with respect to the apprenticing of the pupil mentioned , and it was thought preferable to place her with Alessra . Evans and Williams ,
of Upper Norwood , instead of th $ firm formerly proposed . All these resolutions were severally put by the Chairman , and carried unanimously . ' The CHAIRMAN proposed the investment of a sum of £ 1000 . They had , he said , a sum of jt ' 3000 at present on deposit , and , after providing for all required outgoings , it was found that they could well spare £ 1000 to be invested
in augmentation of the Sustentation Fund . He had also a further proposal to make . They had received a sum of £ 382 5 s . jrd . for interest accrued on the investments of the Sustentation Fund , and he proposed out of that to invest £ 350 in further augmentation of the capital of that fund . Both these resolutions were carried unanimously , and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman .

Every article , from the robes down to the smallest , used in forming a Royal Arch Chapter , has been purchased by the chapter or given by individual companions , supplied by Comp . George Kenning ,
and the Principals and companions should be congratulated upon the success of their enterprise . The carrying out of this work has been mainly due to the indefatigable exertions of Comp . E . Baldwin and others , whose liberality has received the warmest thanks of the chapter . The business of the evening commenced by the exaltation of a brother , and this was done in an excellent manner by all engaged in the ceremony . The officers for the
ensuing year were then elected , and were as follows : Comps . J . B . Bridgman , Z . ; George Green , H . ; T . J . Alackley , J . ; Edwin Baldwin , S . E . ; J . J . Hunt , N . ; Thos . his membership of the chapter . His resignation was accepted , the Al . E . Z . regretting the loss of so excellent a companion . This concluded the business of the evening , and the chapter was closed in ancient and solemn form .
