Bros ; the Lord Mayor , G . M . Felton . C . C , and Capt . Bedford Pirn , visited the Aylesbury Sewage Works last week . At the luncheon Bro . Sir J . VV . Fish were shown swimming in the water filtered from the Sewage Works .

THE RAHERE ALMONERS . —The annual festival of the Rahere Almoners , to which we have from time to time called attention , took place at the Cannon-street

Hotel on Alonday last , and was a most successful affair . The quaint literature of the " Fraternitie" had prepared the visitors for an equally quaint and unique entertainment , and they were not disappointed . Time was when the bringing in of " Ye Boar's Head , " with a procession of choristers , was quite a common occurrence at civic banquets , but Lord Mayor Ellis is probably the first Chief

Alagistrate who has witnessed such a ceremony for many generations . We have not space to give a full report of the proceeding-as we should like to do , suffice it to say that the entertainment passed off most successfully , and reflected great credit on all concerned . Bro . Thomas Sangster , the Recorder , has been untiring in his efforts to establish the Fraternitie on a sound basis , and he has been ably aided by Bro . James Stevens .

On Saturday afternoon , the 2 tst . inst ., Mr . Clarke , the proprietor of the Southampton Hotel , Southampton-buildings , Chancery-lane , celebrated the opening of the new building by a luncheon , to which about sixty gentlemen sat down . The old building , which was rich in historic associations , succumbed to the improving hand oi the modern caterer some short time ago , and in its place

has been erected a handsome , commodious , and comfortable structure . Although the building stands only on the same space of ground as the former building , the accommodation is much greater , and the bar being of horse shoe shape in the middle of the ground floor , locomotion is

renderedeasy The fittings are elegant and of the best description , and there is a better arrangement for the access of light than in the old hotel . On the three other floors there is also excellent accommodation , and the spirited proprietor seems to have omitted nothing to secure the patronage of the large legal population which is located in he district .

Our readers are aware lhat by a recent resolution of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter it has been determined , as in the Craft , to grant permission to wear centenary jewels to the members of any chapter which can satisfactorily prove existence and unbroken continuous working for 100 years . There can be but few chapters in regard to which this is possible . We understand that one

or two have made application , of which only the Royal Cumberland Chapter , No . 41 , Bath , has been successful . Not only has ample proof been afforded as to the justness of the claim , but , as is the case with the Craft lodge to which it is attached , it may be considered most creditable that the whole of the minutes are complete from its commencement . No . 41 , therefore , has the satisfaction of

being the first chapter to obtain this honour . We hear that the warrant is in the possession of the Al . E . Z ., duly signed by H . R . H . tbe Prince of Wales , Grand Z . j Lord Lathom , Grand H . j and Lord de Tabley , Grand J . ; as are also the jewels themselves ready for distribution at a meeting to be held on the 14 th prox ., when the event will be suitably celebrated , with the assistance of some most

R . H . tbe Prince of Wales , Grand Z . j Lord Lathom , Grand H . j and Lord de Tabley , Grand J . ; as are also the jewels themselves ready for distribution at a meeting to be held on the 14 th prox ., when the event will be suitably celebrated , with the assistance of some most

distinguished officers of the Order , such as Col . Adair , Prov . Grand 7 .. j Col . Shadwell H . Gierke , Grand Scribe E . j E . Comps . W . J . Hughan , Gould , and others .
