James Hanton , of the Crown Hotel . The cloth having been withdrawn , the AV . M . gave the usual toasts , the whole of which it it unnecessary to particularise . The toast of the AV . M . was proposed by Bro . Spry , P . M ., who took occasion to compliment the lodge on their unanimous choice and Bro . Bird on having such

a noble lodge to preside over . Bro . Spry then remarked that it was mainly due to the zeal and liberality of their new Master that they had such a room to hold their meeting in , and that not only the room but its fittings were provided under the superintendence of Bro . Bird , who bud displayed a taste that had called down the enconiums of all who had visited their lodge . Iu conclusion he begged the brethren to charge and drink "The Health of the Worshiful Master of Lodge 954 . "

p The toast was drank in the most hearty manner ; to which Bro . Bird replied as follows : — Very AVorshipful Sir , AVorshipful Past Masters , brothers Senior and Junior AVardens , and brethren of Lodge St . Aubyn . In replying to the very gratifying manner in which you have received my name as Worshipful Master , I am reminded that is was once said out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh , but with me I feel it produces a contrary effect , I

hardly know what to say in reply . But as the AV . M . ol the largest , although almost the youngest working lodge in the province , and placed here by your unanimous suffrages ; I do not know that I can do better than take a retrospect of our

existence as a lodge , and describe it as of three periods , the first is that of the reign of our esteemed brother Past Master , Chappie ; at first we had to contend with difficulties of a varied nature , but after these had been overcome , the little cloud appeared as coming up out of the sea like a man's hand , hut it increased and multiplied during this the first period . AVe had to trace out the plan of our Mystic Temple according to the principles of our art . AVe had to make excavations deep and broad , so as to

provide a foundation , where we did not find rock we have placed a firm body of concrete , and , I think we may say of Lodge St . Aubyn , her foundations are firm as the everlasting hills . Having completed our foundations ancl brought t ' nem to the surface in the Mastership of Bro . Chappie , it brings me to the second period or the reign of Bro . Kent , during which the walls were corrected by the straight line , the square applied to the angles and the plumb to the coignes

until the superstructure assumed its fair proportion , and if some of the stones of the building , yielding to the influences of the atmosphere by which they have been surrounded , have from their own inherent weakness crumbled into dust ancl so disappeared from our Mystic Temple , their places have been filled by , we trust , better and more enduring material . This brings me to the third period , the reign of our Immediate P . M . Bro . Spy ; during his year of officeit may

, , be said that the roof tree had been upreared , that the Mystic Building had beeu covered in and close tyled , thereby protecting it from the burning sun of the summer and the storm and tempest of winter , and rendering it a fit temple for the dwelling of brotherly love , relief , and truth .
