Not so , brethren , we also nave a work to do , we have to beautify and adorn this Mystic Temple with every moral ancl social virtue . And how can this best be accomplished ? only by a thorough acquaintance with that beautiful system of moralitydeveloped in the lectures and

, Sections , and to acquire this knowledge it is my intention to hold a lodge of emergency on the fourth Tuesday of each month , and this will show you the reason why X gave all my officers to-day an assistant . AVe must not forget to adorn our Mystic Temple with that , the most beautiful of all the Alasonic attributes—I mean charity . Hitherto we have been compelled to be just before we attempted to be generous , now , I hope ,

we shall be able to show that Lodge St . Aubyn , 954 , is prepared to do its duty . Brethren , I thank you most heartily for the very cordial way in which you have drunk my health . This remark of the Master was listened to with great attention , and on resuming his seat he was loudly cheered . Bro . Bird then rose ancl said : he had a most pleasing duty to per-¦ form , that of proposing " The Health of the Immediate Past Master , " Bro . Spry ; in kind and complimentary terms , allusion

was made to-the zeal , manner of working , and the diligence and close attention to duty that had characterised his year of office , further , he begged in the name of this lodge to present Bro . Spry with a Past Master's jewel and trusted he may long be spared to wear this tribute of the good wishes of the brothers of his lodge . The jewel , which is a beautiful specimen of the goldsmith ' s art , bears a suitable inscription . Bro . Spry , in responding , said : he could not be but gratified

at the fresh mark of their esteem , and assured them that the jewel would be for ever prized b y him as a memorial of his ¦ connection with Lodge St . Anbyii . It was certainly most pleasing for him to look back and know that he , with some two -or three others , were the solo promoters of the lodge , and that by care ancl prudence they had one of the finest lodges in the AVest of England . That the lodge had prospered under his rale , was apparent from their mark of esteem that had been just

presented to him , he trusted its prosperity would for ever continue , and that the principles taught within its walls may be practised without . Tho other toasts were then proceeded with , that of the visitors was replied to by Bros . May , P . M . ; Welch , P . M . ; Murch , P . Prov . G . Org ., P . M . ; Price , AV . M ., & c . The musical parts of the evening- were well conducted , Bro , Holt presiding at the piano . The vocalists being Bro . Clemens , Ludrige , Allen , & c .

PKINCEIOWI * . —Lodge of Benevolence ( No . 666 ) . —Tho annual festival of this lodge was held at the Duchy Hotel at Princetown , Dartmoor , on AA ' ednesday the 4 th July . The lodge was opened according to ancient custom , and the minutes being read and confirmed , a gentleman was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry , and two E . Apprentices were duly passed to a superior degree . The officers were then appointed as followsby Bro . Charles Finchthe newly elected AV . M .:

KENT . MAIDSTONE . —Mailing Abbey Lodge ( No . 1063 ) . —On AA ' cdnesday , the 27 th ult ., the brethren of this lodge assembled for the purpose of installing the AV . M . elect for the ensuing year , Bro . Bunter , of Clarendon Place , Maidstone . There was a large attendance of brethren , amongt whom were Bro . Dobson , D . Prov . G . M ., and other eminent Masons , from Maidstone , Dartford , Gravesend , & c ; Bro . T . Nettleingham , P . P . S . G . D .

and P . M . 77 , Gravesend , officiated as Installing Master , and performed his duties in the most graceful manner ; after this the AV . M . appointed and invested with the insignia of thenrespective offices , the following brethren : —Bros . Hon . Ralph Nevill , Treas . ; J . H . Timmins , Chap . ; G . T . Busbridge , S . W . ; AA . Monckton , J . W . ; R . B . Stedman , Sec . ; B . No-. ton , S . D . ; Hallett , J . D . ; Viner , T . G . j Pointer , Tyler . At 5 p . m . the banquet was served up in tho best style by Bro . Luekhurst , the D . Prov . G . M . presiding . In the course of the evening a very elegant testimonial was presented to the retiring AA ' . M .,

Busbridge , on behalf of tho lodge , in acknowledgment of the great zeal he had displayed in promoting the prosperity of the lodge , his ability in conducting the ceremonies , and his uniform kindness ancl courtesy to his brethren . The testimonial was supplied by Bro . Bartlett , of Maidstone ; it combined a handsome centre piece with vase for fruit , flowers , < J : C ., mounted on a silver gilt tripod of elegant design , three winged lions at the angles , bearing Masonic

emblems and supporting a crystal dish surmounted with a flower vase . The following was the inscription over the triangular base : — " Presented to Bro . AV . Page , P . P . S . G . AV . and P . M ., 503 , by tho brethren of Mailing Abbey Lodge , 1063 , in appreciation of his services in forming the lodge , aud his uniform kindness to them as their first Master , Juno 27 th , 1 S 66 . " A neatly executed sketch of Mailing Abbey was engraved on a third side .

YORKSHIRE ( NORTH AND EAST ) . BiiiDMS'GTOX-dJtrAY . —Londesborough Lodge ( No . 734 . )—The regular lodge was held on Tuesday , the 3 rd July , when there wero present : —Bros . D . R . AV . Parritt , AA . M . ; Capt . Knocker , Ji . N ., S . AV . ; J . Rennard , J . AV . ; , . E . S . Newmavch , S . D . ; R . Happer , as J . D . ; J . Burdon , I . G . ; Kemp , Tyler ; AVilson , Org . ; A . B . Brockwell , Sec ; and other brethren , amongst

whom were Capt . Symons , A ' . C ., 200 , S . AV . ; and AV . H . Parritt , 2 S 9 . There was a considerable amount of business disposed of , and it being the first regular lodge since the installation , the working was performed in a most satisfactory manner . Bro . Stubbs was passed to the second degree , I . H . H . Coventry initiated , the AA ' . M . being assisted in the ceremonies by Bro . G . IT . AA'rangham'P . M . ; AV . H . Parritt ( who was also admitted a joining member of this lodge ) , and the Secretary . The „ lodge was then closed in peace and harmony at about ten o'clock .

Stevens , M . E . Z . 720 , as Z . ; Comps . Penny , H . ; and Cox , J . The other officers were Comps . Little , E . ; Turner , AA' . ;

Hodges , P . S . ; Lavender , 1 , A . S . ; Taylor , 2 , A . S . The ceremony of exaltation was gone through with great care and attention , proving the proficiency of all engaged in its performance , especially as regards the M . E . Z . who had filled the principal chair on the previous Tuesday , when he was unanimously elected Z . for tho two following nights . Comp . Brett , P . Z ., with his usual skill and ability worked three clauses in the third section to the great admiration of the companions . Comp . Taylor of

the Panmure Chapter , 720 , was admitted a joining member , and Comp . A . Smith , P . S . of Chapter 76 , Winchester , was received as a visitor . TEMEEKAXCE CHAPTSE ( NO . 169 ) . —Tho regular Convocation of this Chapter took place on tho 3 rd inst ., at the AA'hite Swan , Deptford . The Chapter having been opened by Comps . AA . SimmonsM .
