• was consecrated on 27 th April , 1248 , by the Cardinal Bishop of Erascati . —Whittington , p . 200 . 102 . The Cathedral of Clermont begun in 1248 from the design of John des Champs ( a campis . )—" Bourasse Catliedrales de France .

103 . A Eabric roll of Westminster was discovered about two years ago by Mr . Burt , of the Eecord Office , entitled " A Eoll of Payments of Wages , and of Purchases for the Works at Westminster , 37 , Henry HI ., " and recently published by Mr . G . G . Scott , in his interesting and valuable book called Qleaninys from Westminster JJbley . Professor Willis

, who has examined the roll , says that it contains the entire accounts of the building works during thirtytwo continuous weeks , beginning Avith the first Aveek after Easter , which in the year 1253 fell on . April 20 th ; consequently the works in question began on Monday , April 28 th , and the last week of the roll

ended with Saturday , Dee . 6 th . The first six weeks are indicated as first , second , & c , after Easter . The seventh Aveek was Whitsun AA'eek , and was evidently kept as a holiday ; the Aveek next folloAving the sixth after Easter being termed the first after Pentecost is thus actually the eighth week from the beginning of the account roll . This enumeration continues to the fifteenth Aveek , which is termed the ei ghth after Pentecost . The sixteenth week begins a new series

termed the first , second , & c , " after the agreement for wages for eight Aveeks . " This enumeration continues through twelve weeks and carries us to the end of ihe twenty-seventh Aveek of the roll . The twentyeighth is termed the first week after the Eeast of All Saints , and the succeeding the second , third , < fec . At the head of each week one or more Saint ' s days are

mentioned in a peculiar manner . Thus to begin the complete title of the first Aveek is— " Eirst week after Easter , containing the Eeast of the Apostles Phili p and James on Thursday , which belongs to the King , and the Eeast of the InA'ention of the Cross on Saturday , which belongs to the Masons . " WhateA'er

feasts are mentioned , are assigned alternately to the King and to the Masons—with one exception , in the twenty-seventh Aveek , Avhere the Eeasts of St . Simon and St . Jude ought to haA'e been given to the Masons , but it is assigned to the King , because that it is the first day of his regnal year . The masons worked

, and were paid for , on the King ' s Saints days , butkept their own as holidays . The following is a list of the feast-days assigned alternately to the King and the masons : —
