REPORT OF THE BOARD OF GENERAL PURPOSES . To the United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of England . The Board begs to report that the subscriptions to the South African Masonic Relief Fund , received by the Grand Secretary ,
pursuant to the resolution of Grand Lodge , and announced from time to time in the "Freemason" newspaper , amount to , £ 10 , 114 10 s rod , of which the sum of £ 9 , 000 has been transmitted to South Africa , where it is in the course of distribution by a committee , the composition of which had been approved by the Board .
The Board further reports that , it having been brought to the notice of the Premises Committee that a freehold stable in New Yard , situate between freehold premises the property of Grand Lodge , and let on a yearly tenancy at a rental of ^ 32 per annum , was to be offered for sale bv public auction , two members of the Committee and the Grand Secretary had , on their responsibility , purchased the property at such auction for the sum of £ 760 .
The Board recommends that Grand Lodge avail itself of the offer of the purchasers to make over the purchase to Grand Lodge for the amount so agreed to be paid .
The Board further reports that , for the protection of the building of Freemasons' Hall and its Contents , it has authorised the engagement , at a Salary of £ 2 a week , of a Night-Watchman , formerly a Member of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade , who will be also charged with the responsibility of keeping in working order the fire-extinguishing apparatus throughout the building .
The Board also report that , on the recommendation of the Officers' and Clerks' Committee , it has approved the increase of the Salary of Brother Palmer , a Clerk in the Grand Secretary's Office , from £ 150 to £ 200 per annum , with a further increase of . £ 10 a year until it reaches , £ 250 , and the increase of the Salary of Brother Leonard Cook , another Clerk , from , £ 150 per annum by annual increments of £ 10 until it reaches £ 200 a year .
The Board has received a Communication from the Hon . Secretary of the City and Borough Clerks of the Peace Society , directing attention to the fact that the requirements of the 39 th Geo . III . c . 79 , under which lists of members of all Lodges have to be annually filed with Clerks of the Peace , have in many cases been disregarded , notwithstanding that Forms of Return are sent annually by the Grand Secretary to every Lodge .
The Board has to report that the following Presentations have been made to the Library and Museum since the last Meeting of Grand Lodge , all of which have been accepted with thanks : Title or Object . Bv whom Presented .

2 . REPORT OF THE GENERAL BOARD . During the three months ending 30 th September 1900 , there have been issued : —Mark Certificates , 225 ; total registered , 42 , 000 . Since the last report , two Warrants for new Lodges have been granted , viz : No . 543 , Bassein , Burma ; and No . 544 , Unity , Liverpool .
Royal Ark Mariners Certificates , 34 ; total registered , 6 , 337 . AVarrants for three Royal Ark Mariner Lodges , viz . : No . 6 9 , United Service , New Brompton , Kent ; No . 82 , Antiquity , Bangalore ) Madras ; and No . 499 , Star , London .
His Royal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master has been graciously pleased to appoint R . W . Bro . Josiah Francis Pepper to be Provincial Grand Master for Staffordshire and Shropshire , vice R . W . Bro . Col . George Singleton Tudor , deceased .
The Board has to report that the following Warrants have been returned : No . 325 , Lebanon , Cornwall ; No . 370 , Jamestown , St . Helena ; No . 407 , Bisley , Surrey ; and No . 4 S 5 , Highbury ,. London . The Board begs to recommend that the thanks of Grand Lodge be offered to the R . W . Bro . the Viscount Dungarvan for his valued and valuable services as Deputy Grand Master during the seven years ending June 1900 , and that he be asked to accept the clothing of his rank .
The Board has been informed that a Brother had been suspended from all trie privileges of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine for sufficient cause , for the period of twelve months from the nth October 1900 , and he has been concurrently suspended in the Mark Degree for a like period .
