among the former being one submitted to brethren praying to hold a Lodgo in Sharon , Franklin county , State of Ohio , to bo called the Aurora Lodge . At the Grand Stewards' Lodge on 26 th November , application was made on behalf of two brethren hailing from Connecticut , who wero desirous of returning to their native state , but who , owing to sickness , wero destitute of funds . The application was
referred to a committee of three brethren , with power to draw on the Grand Treasurer for such amount as they shonld deem fit . On the 3 rd December , compositions by certain Lodges for the payment of their dues having been accepted , and several petitions granted for warrants to hold certain now Lodges , a motion was made to the effect that " no Lodges in this city shall , after six months from this time , be
entitled to vote in this Grand Lodge , in any case whatever , if such Lodge shall not , within six months immediately preceding , have paid its dues to this Grand Lodge ; and that no Lodge ont of the said city , after eighteen months from this time , shall be entitled to vote in this Grand Lodge , in any case whatever , if such Lodge shall not within eighteen months immediately preceding havo paid up its dues to this
Grand Lodgo . " A very unusual entry occurs in tho minutes of the Grand Lodge of 4 th March 1817 . Tho W . M . of Trinity Lodge , No . 10 , stated that a candidate had been proposed for initiation in the Lodge over which ho presided , " who had only one eye , " aud ho expressed a wish to know the sense of Grand Lodge as " to whether it would be proper to make such a person a Mason . " After some remarks
tho matter was referred to a Committee of seven , and thoir report , delivered ata Grand Lodge of Emergency , on the 10 th June following , was to the effect that " the loss was such a defect as ought to preclude him from initiation into our mysteries . " This report was agreed to . Among the petitions for new Lodges presented on the 4 th March , was one from a number of brethren in Havanna for permission to erect
a Lodge under the jurisdiction of the Now York Grand Lodge , to be called " Le Temple de Bienfaisauce . " The petition was referred to the Grand Officers . At tho meeting held on 3 rd June , no less than thirtynine Lodges were either actually represented , or represented by their proxies . On this occasion , Bro . Clinton was re-elected Grand Master , and the rest of the officers having been elected , the further business
was adjourned , and the Lodge closed . At a Grand Lodge of Emergency on tho 10 th of the same month , after tho transaction of certain bnsiness , it was again proposed to have a procession on St . John ' s Day , to which an amendment was moved , to the effect that a Masonic celebration be held on the occasion . Both propositions were negatived . Notice was also given by a Past Master ,
that afc the next regular meeting , he would propose that " the fee to be paid for a warrant should be raised from twenty-five to fifty dollars . " At the meeting on the 2 nd September , among the petitions was one from some brethren in New Orleans , for the erection of a new Lodge , to be called the Louisiana . The petition had accidentally been mislaid by the brother to whom it had been entrusted , but the
prayer was granted nevertheless . On this occasion we find that a letter was read from Bro . Isaiah Thomas , Past Grand Master of Massa . chusetts , to the effect that he had been ordered to call the attention of the Grand Lodge of New York to the inconvenience arising to some of tho Lodges in the Massachusetts jurisdiction from the initiation fees
being less in the New York Lodges , and requesting that the Grand Lodge of the latter would adopt measures for tho promotion of union and harmony between the two Grand Lodges . The letter was referred to the Grand Officers . A notice of tho proceedings of Grand Stewards ' Lodge on the 25 th November brings this part of tho history to a close .
