Bassingtoa opened the Lodge shortly after 5 o ' clock , assisted by the following officers and brethren : —Bros . I . P . Cohen P . M . as S . W ., L . Nordon J . W ., J . Da Silva I . G . as Deacon , P . M . ' s Finney Treat ; ., C . F . Hogard P . M . See ., A . M . Cohen I . P . M ., S . M . Harris , VV . Littaur , J . Buckland , & c . j also Bros . T . Houghton , A .
Abrahams , M . Myers , A . Abrahams , E . Shumann , A . Cohen , M . Cohen , I . Ccaon , E . T . Loovve , Z . Dimant , I . Eichmond , & c . Tho minutes of previous Lodge meeting were confirmed , and other preliminaries- having beeu disposed of , the ballot was taken for Messrs . John Alexander Gartloy and Abraham Percy Cohen ( a Lewis ) j it proved uu . nitnous in favour of the admission of both candidates ,
and the W . J \ . in a very impressive manner conducted the initiation of Mr . Gart ey , after which he courteously vacated tho chair to allow Bro . I . P . Cohen P . M . to initiate tho other candidate . Considerable infc rest attached to this gentleman , he being a L 3 wis ; the nephew of tr . i W . M . for the time being , and his father , a member of the Lodge , a , 10 being present . Thoso who witnessed Bro . Cohen ' s
working during his year of office wore prepared to see tho work well done , and it was now evident the Master ' s hand had not lost any of its skill . Bro . A . M . Harris P . M . kindly filled the S . W . chair during tho remainder of the ceremonies . The W . M . having resumed his position , entrusted Bros . VV . M . Hodges and Myer Myers , finishing his work by passing them to tho rank of Craftsmen .
Several applications for joining , & c , were read and disposed of , and tho Lodge was solemnly closed and adjourned until the 28 th of October . The brethren having partaken of supper tho usual Loyal and Craft toasts were given in appropriate terms and heartily respouded to . Tho W . M . proposed the health of tho Initiate . " , extending a cordial welcome to tho two now brethren . Bro . Gartloy was proud
of the kind manner in which ho had been received by inn brethren , and felt , that the more ho saw of their mysteries the more ho would appreciate tho honour done him . Bro . Percy Cohen also returned thanks for the opportunity afforded him of addressing tho brethren as brothers . It had long beeu tho object of his ambition to be admitted into tho Order . Ho trusted the deep impression of its first ceremony
would ever remain , and that its beantiful teachings would guide his footsteps . He hopod Freemasonry would be the means of improving his wholo life . The Benevolent Fund was next given , the response to the toast being not only hearty , but substantial , the Lodge being one eminent for practical charity . This toast was coupled with tho name of Bro . A . M . Cohen , P . M . who was the founder of the
Fund . In a resume of the history of the Fund , Bro . Cohen appealed to tho brethren to continue tho support they had hitherto so generousl y rendered , so that tho Fond would continue to grow and enable them to render substantial aid to every applicant who unfortunately might require it . The Visitors was cordially received , aud Bro . Stephens in acknowledging the compliment alluded to the excellent working of the
ceremonies—notwithstanding that several officers were unavoidably absent—however , by the kind assistance of the P . M . ' s and tho finished working of tho junior officers , tho whole business was well carried out . The W . M . next gave the P . M . ' s , according them full recognition for their assistance in the duties of the Lodge . He coupled with tbe toast tho namo of Bro . S . M . Harris , who expressed himself always
pleased to render any service to the Lodge . Ho appreciated the compliment paid by a Bro . Visitor upon the Lodgo working , and was proud to meet Bro . Cohen jun . as a Mason . He esteemed hia father as a sincere friend , and took it as a groat mark of confidence his bringing his son into this Lodge . Bro . I . P . Cohen P . M . thanked the W . M . for kindly allowing him to initiate the sou of one whom ho
had known from boyhood . The opportunity of working that ceremony had given him groat pleasure . The Officers next received a cordial reception . In returning thanks , Bro . Norden J . W . said it would be his constant endeavour to do his best for tho welfare of tho Lodge . Bro . J . Da Silva I . G . returned thanks j from the first moments of his being a Mason he had resolved to acquire that knowledge which
would ensure excellence of working in any office the W . bL . might honour him by placing him in . Bro . I . P . M . Cohen then paid a deserved tribute to Bro . Hogard . Hard work was inseparable from their Secretary ' s duties ; he had to correspond not only with the ordinary Lodgs members , but with brethreu in all parts of the globe . May he eojoy life , as he enjoys Freemasonry , for many many years .

Tho minutes of previous Lodge meeting were confirmed , and other preliminaries- having beeu disposed of , the ballot was taken for Messrs . John Alexander Gartloy and Abraham Percy Cohen ( a Lewis ) j it proved uu . nitnous in favour of the admission of both candidates ,
and the W . J \ . in a very impressive manner conducted the initiation of Mr . Gart ey , after which he courteously vacated tho chair to allow Bro . I . P . Cohen P . M . to initiate tho other candidate . Considerable infc rest attached to this gentleman , he being a L 3 wis ; the nephew of tr . i W . M . for the time being , and his father , a member of the Lodge , a , 10 being present . Thoso who witnessed Bro . Cohen ' s
working during his year of office wore prepared to see tho work well done , and it was now evident the Master ' s hand had not lost any of its skill . Bro . A . M . Harris P . M . kindly filled the S . W . chair during tho remainder of the ceremonies . The W . M . having resumed his position , entrusted Bros . VV . M . Hodges and Myer Myers , finishing his work by passing them to tho rank of Craftsmen .
Several applications for joining , & c , were read and disposed of , and tho Lodge was solemnly closed and adjourned until the 28 th of October . The brethren having partaken of supper tho usual Loyal and Craft toasts were given in appropriate terms and heartily respouded to . Tho W . M . proposed the health of tho Initiate . " , extending a cordial welcome to tho two now brethren . Bro . Gartloy was proud
of the kind manner in which ho had been received by inn brethren , and felt , that the more ho saw of their mysteries the more ho would appreciate tho honour done him . Bro . Percy Cohen also returned thanks for the opportunity afforded him of addressing tho brethren as brothers . It had long beeu tho object of his ambition to be admitted into tho Order . Ho trusted the deep impression of its first ceremony
would ever remain , and that its beantiful teachings would guide his footsteps . He hopod Freemasonry would be the means of improving his wholo life . The Benevolent Fund was next given , the response to the toast being not only hearty , but substantial , the Lodge being one eminent for practical charity . This toast was coupled with tho name of Bro . A . M . Cohen , P . M . who was the founder of the
Fund . In a resume of the history of the Fund , Bro . Cohen appealed to tho brethren to continue tho support they had hitherto so generousl y rendered , so that tho Fond would continue to grow and enable them to render substantial aid to every applicant who unfortunately might require it . The Visitors was cordially received , aud Bro . Stephens in acknowledging the compliment alluded to the excellent working of the
ceremonies—notwithstanding that several officers were unavoidably absent—however , by the kind assistance of the P . M . ' s and tho finished working of tho junior officers , tho whole business was well carried out . The W . M . next gave the P . M . ' s , according them full recognition for their assistance in the duties of the Lodge . He coupled with tbe toast tho namo of Bro . S . M . Harris , who expressed himself always
pleased to render any service to the Lodge . Ho appreciated the compliment paid by a Bro . Visitor upon the Lodgo working , and was proud to meet Bro . Cohen jun . as a Mason . He esteemed hia father as a sincere friend , and took it as a groat mark of confidence his bringing his son into this Lodge . Bro . I . P . Cohen P . M . thanked the W . M . for kindly allowing him to initiate the sou of one whom ho
had known from boyhood . The opportunity of working that ceremony had given him groat pleasure . The Officers next received a cordial reception . In returning thanks , Bro . Norden J . W . said it would be his constant endeavour to do his best for tho welfare of tho Lodge . Bro . J . Da Silva I . G . returned thanks j from the first moments of his being a Mason he had resolved to acquire that knowledge which
would ensure excellence of working in any office the W . bL . might honour him by placing him in . Bro . I . P . M . Cohen then paid a deserved tribute to Bro . Hogard . Hard work was inseparable from their Secretary ' s duties ; he had to correspond not only with the ordinary Lodgs members , but with brethreu in all parts of the globe . May he eojoy life , as he enjoys Freemasonry , for many many years .
