Samson Lodge, No. 1668

Officers named severally responded , and the W . M . then gave the Masonio Charities , which he designated the backbone of onr Institution . One of the great causes of our Craffc meeting so strongly as it did was that it devoted so much of its attention and substance to the cause of Charity . He mentioned the Samson Masonio Benevolent Association and the Samson Benevolent Fund , the

former having been established to further the interests of the Charities . He should call on a member of tbe Association to respond . They had started in the right way , by establishing a fund by which each member might become a Life Governor of one of the Charities . Tho Lodge itself was a subscriber for five shares in this fund , thereby ensuring the W . M . taking np ten guineas . He had also the preference of call ,

and was thereby enabled to take up a Stewardship without much trouble . The Lodge in time would by this means become a V . P . of all the Charities , and all the members would become Life Governors . He coupled with the toast the namo of Bro . Barnett , -who had this year acted as Steward for the Royal Masonio Benevolent Institution , and stated that dnring the last two years the Lodge had contributed

ten guineas to the Boys' School , two donations of ten guineas each to the Girls ' , and one of a similar amount to the " Old People . " Bro . Barnett I . P . M . replied . Having filled the office of Steward for tho Royal Masonio Benevolent Institution , ho had , throng' tho means of their Benevolent Association , been enabled to quali ' himself as

Life Governor of all throe Institutions . The Assooia on enabled members to make themselves Life Governors , in a tim- whioh they could hardly be expected to do by individual exertion . The Tyler's toast brought to a conclusion a very agreeable and ciarmonions gathering .

Prosperity Lodge of Instruction , No . 6 > . —At Bro . Maidwell ' s , Hercules Tavern , Leadenhall Street , on the 6 th instant . Present : —Bros . Daniel W . M ., King S . W ., Chicken J . W , Rich S . D ,, Wiseman I . G ., Hollands Secretary ; Wharman , Biddle , Fraser , and Dowe . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Fraser

candidate . Bro . Dowe answered the questions leading to tho third , and was raised . Bros . Fraser and Dowe , members of the Scotch Lodge Roman Eagle 160 , were admitted members . Bro . King was elected W . M . for the ensuing Tuesday . Having the King in tho chair , tho brethren wish for a strong mnster of the brethren to support him .

A joining member was proposed , and some routine bnsiness disposed of , the Lodge closed in due form , and the brethren adjonrned to supper . On removal of the cloth , the Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured ; the pleasures of the evening being insterspersed with somo excellent songs and musical selections .

High Cross Lodge of Instruction , No . * 754 . — A meeting was held on Thursday , 1 st inst ., at tho Coach and Horses , High-road , Tottenham . Present—Bros . Everdell W . M ., Binnie S . W ., Peck J . W ., Ganney See ., Taverner S . D ., Powell J . D ., Garrod and others ; T . H . Thompson Preceptor . Tho Lodge was opened in ancient

form , and tho minutes of the last Lodge meeting were read and confirmed . The Lodge was advanced in the three degrees , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed . On the resumption of the Lodge , the W . M ., assisted by the brethren , worked the second section of the Lecture . Bro . Binnie was elected W . M . for next Lodge meeting .

Eoyal Alfred Lodge of Instruction , No . 780 . —At the Star and Garter , Kew-bridgo , on Friday , 25 th April . Present—Bros . Gomm W . M ., Costelow S . W ., Kyezor J . W ., Blasby S . D ., Acworth J . D ., Talbot I . G ., Goss I . P . M ., J . C . Roe P . M . and Preceptor , Tucker Treasurer . Lodge was opened , and minutes of last meeting

were read , confirmed and signed . Bro . Roe read a letter from Bro . Gnnner ( the Hon . Sec . ) pleading illness as the reason for his absence ; and the brethren expressed their regret at his inability to attend . Bro . Goss was initiated . Lodge was advanced and regularly closed .

M ., who we were glad to see again after a very protracted absence , owing to an accident of a serious nature . Bro . Roe read the minutes of the last meeting , the Hon . Sec . being still too unwell to

attend . Bro . Beckett was initiated , and the W . M . then gave the charge of that degree in a very impressive manner , showing that his enforced absence had not caused him to neglect his studies as a Mason . Bro . Gomm was elected W . M . for the next meeting , and he appointed his Officers . Bro . Heritage was unanimous l y elected a member of this Lodge of Instruction , and ho addressed a fbw observations to the brethren npon the compliment paid him . Lodge was then closed , with due observance of ancient custom .

The Lodge was opened at 7 . 30 p . m ., when the usual preliminaries having been satisfactorily disposed of , Bro . Osbonrne , a candidate for the second degree , proved his proficiency , and was entrusted . The Lodge was then opened in the second , and Bro . Osbonrne advanced to the F . C degree by I . P . M . Pipes . The W . M . then resumed the chair , and the members voted ten guineas for the Royal Masonio Institution for Boys . Business being ended , tho Lodge was closed

in peace and harmony , and the brethren adjonrned , by command of the W . M ., to supper , where each enjoyed the ample , but not extrava . gant , fare provided by Bro . Steele , whose ability for catering is known throughout the Province . On removal of the cloth , the Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by the W . M ., and heartily honoured by tho company . The Officers' toasts were given , and the Tyler in due course closed the proceedings .

Finsbury Park Lodge of Instruction , No . 1288 . — The Fifteen Sections were worked at this Lodge by tho members of The Strong Man Lodge of Instruction , by invitation , on Wednesday the 30 th ult ., at the Earl Russell , Isledon-road , Holloway . Bro .

Sackville Lodge , No . 1619 . —The first regular meeting this year was hold at the Crown Hotel , East Grinstead , Sussex , on Tuesday evening last . Present—Bros . Charles Sawyer W . M ., C . T . Young S . W ., John G . Horsey J . W ., E . A . Head Sec , S . Davison S . D ., VV . Rudge J . D ., J . G . Calway I . G .,- Bros . C . W . Noehmer P . M .. A . VV . Betchley , J . Woodbridge , G . Harwood , J . Cooper , Jas . Hare , J . E . VVoodbridgo and E . D . Dickman . At 5 o ' clock punctually the Lodge was duly opened with solemn prayer . The minntes of the previous meeting having been read aud confirmed , the W . M . referred to a telegram he had just received from Bro . P . M . Hook , stating that as he would be unable to attend , he wished either Bro . Horsey J . W . or tho Secretary to put the motion to

the Lodge of which he had given notice . In accordance with this wish Bro . Horsey proposed , Bro . Young seconded , and ifc was carried with acclamation , that a P . M . ' s jewel be given to the retiring W . M . Bro . C . Sawyer . Tho Lodgo was then opened in the second degree , and after replying to the nsual questions , retiring , and the Lodge being opened in the third , Bro . G . Woolgar was raised to the sublime

degree of a M . M . The Lodge having been resumed , and the ballot taken , Mr . Wm . Pile , of Carshalton , was regularly initiated into Freemasonry . The next business was to elect a W . M . The result of the ballot was the unanimous election of Bro . John G . Horsey J . W . as Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year . Bro . P . M . Hole was

reelected Treasurer , and Bro . Sargent Tyler . After tho appointment of an Audit Committee the Lodgo was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial repast . The installation of Bro . John G . Horsey as Worshipfnl Master will take placo on Tuesday , 1 st Jnly , and it is expected that Sir VV . Burrell , the Provincial Grand Master , with the Grand Officers , will be present .

Sir Hugh Myddolton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1802 . —A meeting was held on Tuesday , at the Crown and Woolpack , St . John-street-road . Present : —Bros . W . Rowley W . M ., H . A . Jacobs S . M . for the ensuing week .

The minntes of the previous meeting having been read aud confirmed , the W . M . referred to a telegram he had just received from Bro . P . M . Hook , stating that as he would be unable to attend , he wished either Bro . Horsey J . W . or tho Secretary to put the motion to

the Lodge of which he had given notice . In accordance with this wish Bro . Horsey proposed , Bro . Young seconded , and ifc was carried with acclamation , that a P . M . ' s jewel be given to the retiring W . M . Bro . C . Sawyer . Tho Lodgo was then opened in the second degree , and after replying to the nsual questions , retiring , and the Lodge being opened in the third , Bro . G . Woolgar was raised to the sublime

degree of a M . M . The Lodge having been resumed , and the ballot taken , Mr . Wm . Pile , of Carshalton , was regularly initiated into Freemasonry . The next business was to elect a W . M . The result of the ballot was the unanimous election of Bro . John G . Horsey J . W . as Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year . Bro . P . M . Hole was

reelected Treasurer , and Bro . Sargent Tyler . After tho appointment of an Audit Committee the Lodgo was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial repast . The installation of Bro . John G . Horsey as Worshipfnl Master will take placo on Tuesday , 1 st Jnly , and it is expected that Sir VV . Burrell , the Provincial Grand Master , with the Grand Officers , will be present .

W . M . ably rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Harris acting as candidate . Bro . Pearcy worked the first , second , and third sections of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . T . J . Corke , of the Cosmopolitan Lodgo No . 917 , and Bros . E . Harris and M . Weil of tho Sir Hugh Myddelton Lodge No . 1602 , were elected members . Bro . Jacobs was chosen W . M . for the ensuing week .
