Tho Lodge being duly formed , the W . that I should allude in a few brief words to a subject which I am sure must have been uppermost in your minda , as in those of all right hinking people in this vast empire , during tho last few dnys . I allude to the late cowardly and dastardly attempt on the lifo of our beloved Sovereign , and I fear I very inadequately givo expression to our sentiments ; but we as Masons , in whom I suppose the spirit of

loyalty is as firmly implanted as in that of any other body of men in the world , certainly should nofc be the last to express our devotion to the Queen , and our heartfelt gratitude thafc she has escaped the crnel hand of the assassin . Ifc seems to me almost incredible that it should have entered into the mind of any person , unless for the time deprived of his reasoning faculties , to attempt the life of one who has always

shown herself to be the very model of a Constitutional Sovereign and a true Christian gentlewoman , who has always displayed the utmost solicitude for the welfare of her peoplo , has ever been foremost in acts of kindness and sympathy and benevolence , and who has never spared herself in anything that would tend to promote tho interests and prosperity of the nation . But while we express our deepest horror and indignation at tho foul crime , we must also give

expression to our heartfelt gratitude to the Great Architect of the Universe , that it has pleased Him in his mercy to avert the deadl y blow , and to preserve so loved and valued a life to the nation . That sho may long be spared to reign over a loyal and devoted people is I feel sure our earnest prayer . I therefore move this resolution : — . " That this Lodgo desires to record its deep feeling of horror and indignation at the late atrocious attempt on the life of Her Majesty

the Queen , and to express its sincere devotion to Her Majesty , and heartfelt gratitude to the Great Architect of the Universe , that it has pleased Him , in His overruling Providence , to shield her from harm . " This was seconded by the I . P . M ., Bro . W . Ferguson , and carried b y acclamation , and ordered to bo entered on the minutes , after whioh tho National Anthem was snng by the brethren—the first verse as a solo with chorus , the second as a dnet with chorus , the following b y all the brethren : —

From every latent foe , From the assassin ' s blow , God save the Queen . O'er her Thine arm extend , For Britain ' s sake defend Our mother and our Friend , God save the Queen .

Bro . Margrett moved , that a copy of tho resolntion should be sent to Her Majesty . Bro . Bailey seconded it , and alluded to a part y of gentlemen in his house having sent their congratulations to Her Majesty on her birthday , which was immediately replied to . Ordered . Lodge was opened in the first degree . The minutes of last regnlar meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . W . Blackwell ,

boing a candidate for passing to the second degree , gave proof of his efficiency in the former , was entrusted , and retired . The ballot was taken for Bro . Thomas Margrett , of No . 414 , as a joining member , who was declared to be elected . Ballot was taken for Mr . Charlea Slaughter as an initiate , who was also declared to be elected . Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro . W . Blackwell was

admitted , and passed to the degree of Fellow Craft . The ceremony was admirably performed , the charge after was given with great precision and clearness . The Lodge was closed to the first degree . The Prov . Grand Secretary congratulated the Master and Officers on the working , pronouncing it to be really perfect . The W . M . thanked the Prov . Grand Secretary , and alluded with gratitude

to the handsome sum he took up to the R . M . B . I ., being by far the largest amount in the Province . Bro . Margrett P . excellent working , had among the visitors Bros . Fathom and Cox , City of Westminster Lodge , W . S . Kent , West Kent , and Wilson , Excelsior . The business consisted in raising Bro . Hickinbotham , and being in each

case unanimous in their favour , those gentlemen were duly initiated and made members among Masons . The labours of the evening over , the brethren sat down to an ample repast , to which justice waa done . In proposing the time-honoured toast , the Queen and the Craft , the W . M . Bro . A . ' Clark touchingly alluded to the dastardly attempt made on the life of Her Most Gracious Majesty , aud said all

must rejoice afc her happy deliverance from the hands of the wouldbe assassin . That the sovereign was beloved by the whole nation might go without saying .
