IT is doubtless within the recollection of onr readers that pr ' or to the consecration of the above Lodge the Bareness Burdett . Coutts presented the brethren with the Lodge fnrnitnre . The most noticeable portion of this was the magnificent embroidered covers to tbe ppdestals and tables . So pleased was the Baroness with the way in which thia work had been executed that as a reward to those who

had been engaged npon it , she invited them to spend a day with her at Holly Lodge , Highgate . Saturdny last , 12 th inst ., was the day appointed for the employes of Messrs Jones and Co . to pay thoir promised visit . Leaving the premises , 236 Regent Street , in omnibuses , specially chartered for the occasion , the young people , to the number of nearly sixty , in addition to the managers , foremen ,

forewomen , & c , proceeded to Highgate . Tbe weather was unfortn . nately unfavourable and quite spoiled what was anticipated would havo been an enjoyable ride , bnt thanks to the provision against the wet the visitors were enabled to reach their distination without in any way suffering from the elements . It had been arranged that the party shonld be conveyed np Highgate Hill by the Steep Grade Tramway ,

the Directors having most kindly offered to allow their cars to be used for the purpose , but in consequence of tho inclement weather it was determined at the last moment to drive direct to the gronods . On their arrival the guests were received by the Baroness in the verandah , where luncheon was provided . At the conclusion of the luncheon the Senior Manager present , Bro . Cantle , proposed the

health of the Baroness Burdett-Coutta , he snid that the whole of the staff employed by Messrs Jones and Co . looked upon their recoption that day as an act of the greatest kindness and consideration . He was pleased thafc her ladyship had expressed her satisfaction at the way in wbich their work had been produced , and he considered that in asking them to Holly Lodge she had done them a very

great honour . The Baroness , who was received with acclamation , then addressed the gathering , and said how pleased she was to receive them ; she regretted the day waa so unfavourable ; she hoped , though , thafc it might yet clear np to enable them to inspect the gronnds and thafc she shonld see them there again on a future occasion . The manner in which the yonng people had performed their work had

given her fche greatest satisfaction , and she remembered with pleasure seeing their nimble fingers afc work during the progress of the embroidery . The design too was most beautiful , and the manner in which her own arms had been incorporated with a representation of " Tbe Abbey" cansed the production to become really a work of ort . Her ladyship said that she should have much pleasure in showing

her visitors over the house , and letting thorn see the various objects of interest therein ; she was sure that from the artistio qunlities they had proved themselves to be possessed of , they would apprpciate the works of art they might see . The visitors then accompanied tbe Baroness over her house . At the conclusion of tea , which was also provided in tbe verandah , Bro . Burdett-Coutts W . M . of Abbev Lodwo

addressed his visitors in reply to a vote of thanks which had beon unanimously accorded him . He said that ho was exceed inirly glad to see them all , and in the name of himself aud the Baroness tendered them a hearty welcome . The work they had executed would ever be highly appreciated by the Abbey Lodge , and would in years to come maintain their reputation for good workmanship , and that

of true benevolence and kindness on the part of the Baroness . Towards evening the weather fortunately cleared up , and enabled the yonng people to roam abont the grounds , which they evidently did with considerable pleasure . Soon after sunset , the visitors , nnder the charge of Brother Baker , were dnly conveyed home in safety .

During the afternoon and evening , Bro . James Hill conducted a capital selection of instramental music , and as the weather became finer , dancing was resorted to with considerable animation . The day will long be remembered with pleasurable feelings by the employes of Messrs . Jones and Co .

There will be an emergency meeting of the Abbey Lodge at the Westminster Town Hall , on Monday , 28 th instant , when Bro . Burdett-Coutts , the W . M ., will work the three degrees—raising five , passing five , and initiating five candidates .
