To the Supreme Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of England . The Committee of General Purposes beg to report that they have examined the accounts from the 19 th Jnly to the 17 th October 1893 , both inclusive , which they find to be as follows : — i

Superintendent for Surrey as Z ., Charlos Thomas Tyler as H ., Heury Currie Leigh-Bennett as J ., and seven others for a Chapter to be attached to the Abbey Lodge , No . 2120 , Chertsoy , ti be called " The

Chertsoy Abbey Chapter , " and to moet at the MasoDio Hall , Cnortsey , in the County of Surrey . The foregoing Petition being in all respects regular , the Committee recommend that the prayer thereof bo granted .

2 nd . Prom Companions Philip Moore Callow Kormode as Z ., Wm . ] Morris as H ., John Craine as J ., and twenty others for a Chapter to ] beattaohed to the St . Maughold Lodge , No . 1075 , Kamaoy , Isle of i Man , to bo called " Tho St . ' Maughold Chapter , " an ; l to inset at the Masonio Rooms , Ramsey , Isle of MaD . j

Of the Companions who signed the Petition for tho nbove proposed Chapter , teu are not registered , iu oinsequouoo of the return- * not j having been made by Chapters No . 1001 and No . 1242 , D . mglue , of whioh those Companions claim to bo members . Tbe Committee therefore recommond that tho consideration of this Potition be deferred nntil the returns have been made .

Tho Committee havo also reosivod a memorial from tbo Principala and Members of " The Port Natal Chapter , No . 738 , Durban , Natal , South Africa , praying for a Charter of Confirmation , tho original having been destroyed by tbe fire which burnt clown the Masonic Hall . The Committee reoommead thut a charter of Confirmation b 9

granted . The Committee have likewise received a memorial from " The Marlborough Chapter , " No . 1399 , Woodstock , Oxfordshire , with the

consent of the Grand Superintendent , praying for parmission to hold the meetings of the Chapter alternately at Woodstoak and Witney , owing to removals and other causes rendering it difficult to keep the work up to a satisfactory standard at Woodstock alone .

The Committee after due consideration recommend that the request contained in this memorial be not entertained , as boiug calculated to establish a very inconvenient precedont . The Committee have further received a memorial , with extract of minutes , for permission to remove the following Chapter : —

"The Gilbert Greenall , " No . 1250 , from the Masonio Rooms , Sankey Street , Warrington , Lancashire ( W . D . ) ta the Assembly Rooms , Lion Hotel , Bridgo Street , in the same town . Tho Committee recommend that the removal of this Chapter be sanctioned .

Tho Provincial Grand Scribe E . of Hampshire and tho Isle of Wight has returned the Charter of tbo New ForeBi Chapter , No . 319 , Lymington , Hampshire , which has made no returns sinoe tbo 15 th September 1871 . The Committee beg to recommend that the

Chapter bo removed from tho list of Chapters . Iu pursuance of the report of tha Board of General Purposes , tho banking account of the Grand Lodgo ha 3 beou transferred from the Woatern Branch , to the Law Courts Branch of the Bank of England .

The Committee report that the banking account of tho Grand Chapter has also boon transferred to the aamo Branch . The Committee bog to recommend , and the President will move : — That brethren may be exalted into tho degree of tho Royal Arch after

tho expiration of four weeks from tbo timo they have received the Master Mason ' s degree , instead of twelve calendar months , as provided by Rulo 73 of tho Royal Arch Regulations ; that Itnlo 73 be rdtereQ accordingly , and Rule 74 expunged .

Baildoi Principal Sojourner , T . C . Lillay Troiaurer , Robert Rudmau S . E ., J . Goodman

S . N ' ., Wm . Rostron and J Goodman Auditors . A sub ? tantial dinner was afterwards provided , to which tho Companions did ample justice . Besides those already mentioned there were present;—Comp 3 . W . J . Melling P . Z . P . P . G . A . S . and Edward Roborts ( FREEMASON ' CnitoxicLE ) .

. North London Chapter of Improvement . —At the Cock Tavern , Highbury , on the 12 rh inst ., Comps . Bailey M . E . Z ., Radoliff H ., Landalo J ., E ' monds Precaptor , Osborn S . E ., Gregory Treasurer , Spildreth S . N ., Murray P . S ., Davis , Walden , George , Schutau , Cary , Vou Altorp , Dettmar , Hancook , Robineou , Wareham , Tuck , and sovera ! others .

The ceremony of exhaltation was rohoarsed . Comp . Walkden candidate . Comps . Dettmar and Sohatan , of tbe Sir Hugh Myddelton Chapter ; Wareham , of tbo Highgnte Chapter , and RobinsoD , of tbo St . Marfcin ' s-le-Grand Chapter , wero elected members . Tho ceremony of exhaltation was rendered in a most perfect and earnest manner by the Principals , and often calling forth the warmest praise of the Companions .

Cuisious SLANDER ACTIO ? . TNVERNESS , 10 th October . —Proof was led in Inverness ShorilF -L court , to-day , in an action in whioh Mr . William Wright , hotol keeper , Lochgorm Inn , SUPS Mr . Edward Oram , Inland Revenue officer , for £ 500 in namo of damages for alleged slander . Tho case i 3 a peculiar one , and has excited considerable interest

among members of Masonic Lodges iu Inverness . Tho pnroner , who was a member of the St . Mary's Lodge of Freemasons , of which defender is Secrotary , was asked in September last by a young lady to seenre an invitation to a ball which was to be given by the Lodgo . This he did , bub , after ib waa issued , defender

and another member of tho Lodge called upon biro , and , it ia said , made use of offensive statements as to the girl ' s character , and stated that he had a motive iu bringing bor fco the ball . The statements were made in presence of his wife , and were , he alleges slanderous .

For the defonder , it ij explained that pursuer was aft 9 r trial , according to the rules of the Freemasonry , sentenced to expulsion from the Order and from all Masonic Lodges , and it ia believed that pursuer ' s motive in bringing the aotiou is not in vindication of hia character , but if possible to coorco the Masonic body iuto restoring hiin to membership . —Glasgow Evening Citizen .

A Scotch member , Bro . A . A . Speirs , recently laid the memorial stoao of a hall at Houston with Masonic honours . It is the intention of Bro . Speirs to present tho hall fco tho village , and it will also become tho homo of the Captain Speirs Lodge , No . 791 ( S . C . ) . Tho estimated cost ia £ 3 , 000 .
