Mother Kilwinning Lodge , No . O . —Thursday , 21 st October , being the Glasgow Fast Day , and held as a holiday , Bros . J . Ferguson and J . Tweed , the Pro S . W . and J . W . of the Mother Lodge , took down another contingent ; of initiates and affiliates to swell the ranks of the Lodge , which boasts to have been the cradlo of Freemasonry , at' any rate in North Britain . They Avero

accompanied by tAventy of tho brethren , and after a pleasant ride of an hour and a half , arrived at the picturesque old village , and found the brethren assembled in the old Lodge room . The Lodge Avas opened at 1 o ' clock , by Bros . E . Wy lie P . G . S . and Past Prov . Grand Master of Ayrshire , John Johnston S . W ., James Gibson J . W ., and J . Whintou Tyler , when fonr officers of the 105 th Highland Eegimenfc of

Volnnteers , and two civilians , wero duly admitted to the Entered Apprentice degree . It having been pub to tho Lodge and voted a case of Emergency , Messrs . Jas . Shirra , Alex . McDonald , Allan McKechnie , Wm . Robertson , Johu Clark , and Thos . Og livegold , were passed and raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., and Bro . Balfour , of Both well , 13 , P . G . D . C . Glasgow , and G . W . Wheeler P . M . 73 , were

affiliated as joining members . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet at the Egliugtou Arms , where a substantial repast was admirably served up by the respected host , Bro . Rodger . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts Avere duly honoured , Avhen Bro . Wylie proposed tho Initiates ho thought it no small honour to have had the privilege of assisting in bringing to light six gentlemen like the

present , who , from their behaviour to-day , he felt sure Avould yet reflect honour upon the Order . Bro . J . Clark replied , on behalf of himself and the other Initiates . The P . G . M . then proposed the visiting brethren and affiliates . Tho Mother Lodge , though still Avorking with all her rude simplicity , Avas yet glad to see brethren of long standing and great experience in the Order coming forward to join them

with all their shortcomings . Bvo . Wheeler , m reply , said : Thongh he held many diplomas , of various Orders and Degrees of Masonry , he could assure them there Avas none he Bhould prize moro than that of the Mother Kilwinning Lodge . Bro . H . J . Shields 33 ° , was pleased to soe tho simplicity with which the degrees were wrought , aud yeb they Avere strictly in accordance Avith tho ancient landmarks . He

had seen the French , German , Italian , Swiss , Spanish , and Greek Rites worked , as well as being present in nearly all the States of America , to say nntlrncr of Ireland and England , yet siuce he lirst saAV Masonic light •yuars ag <> , he had seen nothing that approved itself more to his ju ^ ment . He called it Masonry pure and undefiled ; a great deal of Avhat were called improvements m Masonry lie looked

upon as simply innovations , which tho Order Avould be better without , and ho could say , with Bro . Wheeler , that above nil his diplomas ho should prize that of Mother Kilwinning . Tho period for reassembling having arrived , the brethren returned to tho Lodge room , and Bro . Wy lie reopened ; when some Glasgow brethren , who had been unable

Mother Kilwinning Lodge , No . O . —Thursday , 21 st October , being the Glasgow Fast Day , and held as a holiday , Bros . J . Ferguson and J . Tweed , the Pro S . W . and J . W . of the Mother Lodge , took down another contingent ; of initiates and affiliates to swell the ranks of the Lodge , which boasts to have been the cradlo of Freemasonry , at' any rate in North Britain . They Avero

accompanied by tAventy of tho brethren , and after a pleasant ride of an hour and a half , arrived at the picturesque old village , and found the brethren assembled in the old Lodge room . The Lodge Avas opened at 1 o ' clock , by Bros . E . Wy lie P . G . S . and Past Prov . Grand Master of Ayrshire , John Johnston S . W ., James Gibson J . W ., and J . Whintou Tyler , when fonr officers of the 105 th Highland Eegimenfc of

Volnnteers , and two civilians , wero duly admitted to the Entered Apprentice degree . It having been pub to tho Lodge and voted a case of Emergency , Messrs . Jas . Shirra , Alex . McDonald , Allan McKechnie , Wm . Robertson , Johu Clark , and Thos . Og livegold , were passed and raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., and Bro . Balfour , of Both well , 13 , P . G . D . C . Glasgow , and G . W . Wheeler P . M . 73 , were

affiliated as joining members . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet at the Egliugtou Arms , where a substantial repast was admirably served up by the respected host , Bro . Rodger . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts Avere duly honoured , Avhen Bro . Wylie proposed tho Initiates ho thought it no small honour to have had the privilege of assisting in bringing to light six gentlemen like the

present , who , from their behaviour to-day , he felt sure Avould yet reflect honour upon the Order . Bro . J . Clark replied , on behalf of himself and the other Initiates . The P . G . M . then proposed the visiting brethren and affiliates . Tho Mother Lodge , though still Avorking with all her rude simplicity , Avas yet glad to see brethren of long standing and great experience in the Order coming forward to join them

with all their shortcomings . Bvo . Wheeler , m reply , said : Thongh he held many diplomas , of various Orders and Degrees of Masonry , he could assure them there Avas none he Bhould prize moro than that of the Mother Kilwinning Lodge . Bro . H . J . Shields 33 ° , was pleased to soe tho simplicity with which the degrees were wrought , aud yeb they Avere strictly in accordance Avith tho ancient landmarks . He

had seen the French , German , Italian , Swiss , Spanish , and Greek Rites worked , as well as being present in nearly all the States of America , to say nntlrncr of Ireland and England , yet siuce he lirst saAV Masonic light •yuars ag <> , he had seen nothing that approved itself more to his ju ^ ment . He called it Masonry pure and undefiled ; a great deal of Avhat were called improvements m Masonry lie looked

upon as simply innovations , which tho Order Avould be better without , and ho could say , with Bro . Wheeler , that above nil his diplomas ho should prize that of Mother Kilwinning . Tho period for reassembling having arrived , the brethren returned to tho Lodge room , and Bro . Wy lie reopened ; when some Glasgow brethren , who had been unable
