Several letters of apology for non-attendance were read . The business of the chapter being ended , the companions adjourned to a banquet , over which the M . E . Z . most ably presided . At the close , the loyal and Royal Arch toasts were given

in appropriate terms by the M . E . Z ., and were cordially received . In giving the toa-t of " The Grand Officers" the M . E . Z . said the companions knew how much the Grand Officers had at heart the welfare of Royal Arch Masonry , and how ready they ever were to do their utmost to further the interests of the Order . The toast of "The M . E . Z . " was given by Comp .

Vickery , I . P . Z ., who referred to the excellent manner in which the chief duties of the chapter had been carried out b y Comp . Hilton since its consecration just six months ago . He felt sure that the M . E . Z ., when called upon to do so , would install his successor in the same able manner in which he had performed every duty he had undertaken in Freemasonry . The toast was most enthusiastically received .

The M . E . Z ., in response , thanked the companions for the kind manner in which the toast of his health had been received . He felt exceedingly proud to preside over them , and he thought that few , if any chapter which was only six months old , could boast of such a meeting as the present one . It was gratifying to him as their first Z . to be so ably supported by the officers and the members , and as the chief founder of the chapter , he would always have its best

interests at heart . The toast of "The II . and J . " was next given and cordially recieved . In proposing it the M . E . Z . said they were companions of whom they had every reason to be proud , both having distinguished themselves in Freemasonry . Comp . H . J . Martin , as VV . M . of the Rose Lodge , was just retiring after a most successful year of office , whilst Comp . F . Williams ' s year of office in the

Temple Lodge was one which would long be remembered and appreciated by the brethren of that lodge , and their zeal in Royal Arch Masonry was well in keeping with their efforts in the Craft . Comp . Martin , H ., thanked thecompanions for the reception they had given the toast , remarking that while he had worked industriously to qualify himself for his present position , he had to thank the M . E . Z . for the valuable assistance he had

always received from him , and assured the companions that the same assistance would be ungrudgingly given to every companion present in need of it . Comp . Williams , J . also thanked the companions , and said that while he had the honour of holding a position in the Rose Chapter its welfare should not suffer through him . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of "The Exiltce , " congratulating Comp . Ellison on his exaltation , remarking

that he felt sure that the companions would lind in Comp . Ellison a worthy member of the Order . 'the toast was well received , and Comp . Ellison suitably responded . The M . E . Z . then gave the toast of "The Visitors , " speaking at length on the excellent qualities of the companions , he , on behalf of the Rose Chapter , so cordially welcomed . This toast was also enthusiastically received .

Comps . Wishart , | Grummant , Davis , Hills , Briant , and Voisey responded , expressing pleasure at having spent an enjoyable evening both in and out of the chapter , the remarks of the latter companion as to the various lessons taught by Freemasonry being very instructive . The next toast was that of "The Treasurer and S . E . " The M . E . Z . dilated upon the excellent qualities of Comps . Kirby and Loader , and the untiring energy displayed by them in their respective offices . The toast was well received .

Royal Arch.

Comp . Kirby heartily thanked the companions for the kind manner in which they had received the toast , and expressed his willingness to do all in his power to promote the welfare of the chapter . Comp . Loader also sincerely thanked the companions for drinking his health in such a cordial manner , adding that , having accepted the position of S . E ., he did all that lay in

his power to carry out the duties in a conscientious and faithful manner . The M . E . Z . then gave "The Health of the Officers , " remarking that it must have been gratifying to everyone ^ in the chapter to have witnessed the very careful way in which Comp . Dr . Webb hid performed the duties of S . N . for the first time . The P . S . was a companion whose valuable

services the members of the chapter would never forget . He had for his assistant that night Comp . G . Thompson , who had kindly coupled with his duties of Assistant Sojourner the office of Steward , looking after their comforts at the banquet table . The M . E . Z . felt sure that the companions were all pleased to have such efficient officers , and it was

extremely gratifying to him personally to be so ably supported , and it would be his chief aim to keep up the reputation they had earned for efficient working . The toast was ^ cordially received , Comps . Webb , Pullen , and Thompson responding . The Janitor ' s toast brought to a close a most pleasant

evening . Comps . Voisey , Thompson , Williams , Potter , Chouvaux , and Derham materially added to the enjoyment of the evening with songs , recitations , and music .

GREAT STANMORE . Stanmore Chapter ( No . 1549 ) . —This prosperous chapter , which combines many local Craft lodges and is the largest in the Province of Middlesex , completed its 13 th season on Wednesday , the 14 th ult ., at the Abercorn Arms . The first business was the installation as J . of Comp . Major H . B . Weatherall , the respected W . M . ot the

Abercorn Lodge , who in his official military capacity was unavoidably absent at the previous meeting . This was ably performed by the veteran Comp . C . H . Webb , P . Z . After confirming the minutes of the previous meeting , and of the audit meeting , which although shoning for various reasons several members had left the chapter , six new members during the year had kept up the standard , with the prospect

of yet more in the coming year . The lectures from the three Principals' chairs ( which were unavoidably deferred at his exaltaton ) were then given in a manner for which this chapter is noted to Comp . Wm . Dean . A great loss having been sustained through the death of his wife , since the last meering , by their highly-esteemed Comp . E . Bentley Havnes . P . Z ., a vute of sympathy was feelingly conveyed

to him , and ordered to he recorded on the minutes , for wh ' ch he briefly responded . The chapter was then closed , and an enjoyable dinner completed a very successful gathering , much being due to the facilities now given b y the new branch railway from Harrow to Stanmore , which makes the Abercorn Hotel , with its beautiful surroundings , so easy of access .
