PUNJAB MASONIC INSTITUTION .

Bro . H . J . Whymper , CLE ., thc zealous D . D . G . M . 0 f the Punjab , has kindly sent us the report of the Trustees of the above excellent Charity for the year 1892 . R extends to over 80 pages , and is a most voluminous and exhaustive account of all that

concerns the interests and welfare of one of the best managed Masonic funds in connection with the Grand Lodge of England . At the close of 18 92 the large number of 40 children were being educated by the Punjab Masonic Institution ( iS boys and 22 girls ) , the average expenditure being

257 rupees each ( including clothing , etc . ) . The names of the schools , and particulars of the wards thus benefitted , are duly given , and many other noteworthy particulars , by the honorary Secretary , Bro . F . Jackson , P . M ., & c The total income for 1892 vvas Rs . 16 , 714 , and is the

hig hest yet obtained , the investments being now raised to over 79 , 200 rupees , being also the largest amount in any year . Since the Society started the large sum of 164 , 812 rupees have been paid into the fund , vvhich , at 2 s . to the rupee , would mean over . £ 16 , 000 , but , unfortunately ,

the rate of exchange is far from the maximum at the present time . The " Stewart , " No . 16 90 , enjoys the position of being ' the largest contributor ; followed closely , however , by the " Charity , " No . 563 . Bro . Whymper is the largest individual subscriber , but the

record generally is a very honourable one . It isa good plan thus to furnish so many particulars , and well pays for the outlay as respects labour and printing . It is a most beneficent Institution , exceptionally well managed .

In the course of the evening Bro . Philbrick mentioned that it gave him very great pleasure to forward the cause of Masonry to the best of his ability , and that lodges of instruction vvere doing a good and a great work , and that he vvas pleased , as an honorary member , to attend the Langton Lodge of Instruction , and rehearse a ceremony , more so as lie met with a very cordial welcome , and always felt at home , and among friends and brethren . fessed , however , he hardly expected to find such a master of thc ceremonies among the members as Bro . Sudlow , vvho , he regretted to find , has had to leave before the dinner , and that it was gratifying to find that such brethren were ever ready and willing to help in the work , even at great personal inconvenience . It vvas whispered about that there vvas a good chance of Bro . H . M . Hobbs , who had

resigned the Preceptorship on account qf ill health , being able and willing to resume those duties , if not so often as formerly , quite sufficiently for him to be considered an active Preceptor . It is sincerely to be wished this may be so , not only in the interest of the lodge , but more so as it proves his health has greatly benefited by the rest he has taken for the last few months .

BRO . HENRY DICKEY . It is with deep regret we announce the death of Bro . Hy . Dickey , P . M ., who was for several years Secretary of the Royal Savoy Lodge , No . 1744 . Our brother , who vvas well-known in the Metropolis , was 55 years of age , and had been ill for some time , and died on Monday , the 27 th ult . He was also a member of the

Royal Savoy Mark Lodge , No . 355 ; Metropolitan Chapter , No . 1507 ; and Henry Levander Chapter , No . 2048 . The funeral took place on the ist instant , at St . Pancras' Cemetery , Finchley , and was attended by the widow and daughters , and his brother , Bro . Geo . Dickey , and Bro . May . The following brethren ,

all of the Royal Savoy Lodge , also attended : Bros . W . A . Scurrah , P . M . ; G . Mordey , S . W . ; A . H . Cole , Sec . ; Geo . Thompson , J . Walker , and R . T . West . Several handsome wreaths were sent by the members of his family and friends , and from the Royal Savoy Lodge , and the Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction .

' BRO . CHAS . CREW , P . M . 1112 . On the 13 th ult ., the Vale of Avon Lodge , No . 1112 , Shirley , lost a valued brother by the sudden death of the late Bro . Chas . Crew , the senior P . M . He vvas initiated many years ago in the Royal Gloucester Lodge , No . 130 , Southampton . When the Vale of Avon Lodge was removed from Fordingbndge to

Shirley , Bro . Crew vvas one of the first to join , in January , 1875 . He was then living in Millbrook , and for some years he took an active part in the working of the lodge , was elected Treasurer in 1877 , and W . M . in 1882 . He was exalted in the Royal Gloucester Royal Arch Chapter at Southampton , and was , we believe , a member up to the time of his death . He

took the 18 in the Canute Rose Croix Chapter , No . 41 , Southampton , in 1879 , and filled the chair of M . W . S . in 1889 . In November , 1887 , he was advanced in the Onslow M . M . Lodge , No . 361 , London . Bro . Crew had been to the Cape of Good Hope for the benefit of his health , and was returning home in the Union Company ' s s . s . Mexican , and when

about two days south ot Madeira , he was seized with an apopletic tit whilst sitting at dinner , and although everything that could be done was done at once , he died in about half-an-hour , and was buried at sea next day . Bro . Crew was well known as a waterworks expert , being Chairman of the South Hants

Waterworks Company , a Director of the Antwerp Waterworks Company , of the Cape Town Waterworks Company , and of the Guernsey Waterworks Company , as well as Secretary of the Seville Waterworks . His loss vvill be sorely felt by his many business friends , as well as by his Masonic brethren , as he was beloved and respected by all vvho knew him .
