THE SIR WALTER RALEIGH LODGE .

In order to celebrate the founding of the Sir Walter Raleigh Lodge , a banquet , followed by a ball , took place at Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C , on the 22 nd ult . Since its establishment in July last , the lodge , which is mainly composed of brethren connected vvith the tobacco trade , has made

great progress . This result is due in a large measure to the untiring efforts of the W . M ., Bro . W . H . Bullock , and the Secretary , Bro . A . 1- " . Scholding , vvho have been cordially supported by all the officers . The gathering at Freemasons' Tavern was numerously attended by members and guests , and , thanks to the admirable arrangements made by the W . M ., the

Secretary , and the Stewards , it passed off in a most successful manner . There was a good proportion of ladies present , and their , enjoyment of the proceedings was enhanced by the thoughtfuliiess of the W . M ., who presented to each a case containing bottles of scent . At the close of the banquet , the usual Masonic toasts

were proposed by the WORSHIPFUL MASTER , but , of course , without the incidental functions which are hidden from the knowledge of the uninitiated . In proposing one of the toasts , the WORSHIPFUL MASTER gave a brief desciiption of some of the Charitable work performed in connection vvith Freemasonry , placing special stress upon the great value of the Schools . He also expressed a hope , amidst cheers ,

that the '' ladies' night" would become an annual institution with the Sir Walter Raleigh Lodge . The toast of "The Worshipful Master" vvas given in the most appreciative terms by Bru . W . KI . INUENSTKIN , P . M . 7 , ) and 1540 , Treasurer , and it is needless to say that it was received with great cordiality . Officers of the Lodge , " expressing his thanks to the officers generally for the assistance they had given him , and to the Secretary in particular . He said Bro Scholding had borne the heat and burden of the day in connection with the gathering , and he was quite sure there was not another Secretary anywhere equal to him .

Bro . SCHOLDING , in reply , thanked the founders of the lodge and the Stewards for the support he had received , and said he was very pleased that the brethren and their friends had enjoyed the proceedings . The musical arrangements vvere under the direction of Bro . F . Richardson , and the speeches vvere inter .

W . KI .
