either as Steward to one of our noble Institutions or the furthering the interest and welfare of the Strong Man Lodge , to the best of his ability or his pocket . been Treasurer of the lodge . Bro . Follett , in reply , said he hardly knew what to say , ex cept to thank one and all the brethren for such a token oi their esteem and goodwill . Stephens , I . P . M . 1623 ( Freemason ) .

Being the opening night of the season , hearty greetings were exchanged by the brethren , and particular gratification was experienced from the presence of our esteemed and veteran Bro . T , J . Barnes , P . M . After a long and protracted illness our worthy brother appeared among his brethren quite recovered , and , indeed , seems to have acquired a new lease of life and Masonic usefulness , and

although 7 G years of age , Bro . Barnes exemplified this by presiding at the working of the Fifteen Sections at the Israel Lodge of Instruction a few days ago . The only ceremony named upon the summons was a passing , which was not worked , owing to the non-appearance of the brother interested . The minutes of the last regular and an emergency meeting were submitted and confirmed , the

Secretary announced a satisfactory interim condition of the lodge finances , and the brethren then proceeded to receive and subsequently to adopt the recommendations of the Bye-Laws Committee . „ . Some other business of purely lodge interest next occupied considerable time , and after " Hearty good wishes " lodge was closed , and Bro . Walter ' s skill and resources as

a host were put to the test , with a satisfactory result to all concerned . The evening being far advanced , after grace was said , and the lodge possessing in Bro . Seddon , P . M ., a capital musician , and many good singers , Bro . Taylor , VV . M ., set the good example of short speeches , and enabled Bros . Tait , Cotter , Berry , Stephens , Hawes , Etheridge , Symes , Wood , Read , and others to furnish some capital songs , and a very pleasant evening was passed .

HYDE PARK LODGE ( No . 1425 ) . —A meeting was held on Thursday , the 1 st inst ., at the Westbourne Hotel , Craven-road , Paddington , VV ., when there were present Bros . James Stephens , W . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last lodge meeting were read and confirmed . Bro .

Chappell having been raised , a ballot was taken for Messrs . J . H . Dew and John Sherry , which proving unanimous in their favour , they were impressively initiated into the mysteries of the Craft . Bro . J . Cruttenden , a founder and P . M . of the lodge , having , through indisposition , gone into the country to reside , was unanimously elected an honorary member . After " Hearty good wishes " from the visitors ,

the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to an admirably served banquet , at the conclusion of which , after a few introductory remarks , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by the W . M ., and heartily received by the brethren .

The I . P . M ., Bro . Hunt , in proposing "The W . M . ' s Health , " reverted to what he had said of him at his election as VV . M . —that he would not only prove a good worker , but also a good ruler , and the brethren could now see for themselves his estimate was being fully borne out , and concluded by calling upon the assembly to heartily accept the

toast . The Worshipful Master thanked the I . P . M . and all for the kindness that had been lavished upon him . He had laboured hard to acquire his knowledge , and was glad he was rewarded by meeting with so marked and hearty reception as had just been accorded to him , and it would be his earnest endeavour to continue to merit their approba-1 tion as long as he belonged to the Hyde Park Lodge .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The Worshipful Master , in proposing the toast of the evening— "The Initiates "—said without the infusion of new blood into their lodges they must become extinct ; but he desired to say that calibre and position , as well as undoubted and unblemished reputation , should always be possessed by those proposed for Freemasonry . He had himself proposed eight out of the 10 candidates last year , and was pleased to say all of them could take any office in

the lodge he might be called upon at a moment's notice , and considered that the pattern set by them was remarkable , and if only copied by the initiates would in due time lead them to become brilliant Masons . He was also gratified that Bro . Dew was a good musician and a life-long abstainer , which augured well for the future . Bro . Dew expressed his thanks to them all , and was much impressed with the interesting ceremony he had gone

through that evening , and the insight he had obtained tended already to produce a desire in him to dive deeply into its mysteries , and trusted he would be a credit to the lodge . Visitors , the VV . M . said , were received at all times with great cordiality at the Hyde Park Lodge , and they had gone away over and over again satisfied with the brotherly love that has and does exist among the members of the

lodge , and hoped those visitors present that evening would do so also , and concluded by calling for a hearty response to the toast , coupling with it the names of Bros . Harvey , Scurrah , Nicols , Dehane , and Foxley . Bro . Harvey shortly thanked the W . M . for the hearty reception of the visitors , and also for the pleasure and instruction he had received from the able working he had witnessed .

Bro . Scurrah said he took a deep interest in everything Masonic , and he could certainly congratulate them all in having a W . M . who knew his work and did it , and was sure that all would be pleased to obey the W . yl . ' s summons to attend . Bro . Capt . Nicols expressed his gratification at the good work he had witnessed , and , after 26 years' experience , hoped the W . M . would not object to him telling the

brethren that there was in his lodge in India a very good rule , which was to transact the private business of the lodge without the presence of visitors , and hoped he should see it established in this country , which could easily be done . Bro . Dehane hoped the officers would continue to take advantage of the Monday evening before each lodge meeting set apart for them at the lodge of instruction , whicli would for the future meet at its new quarters , the

Porchester Arms Hotel , Leinstcr-place , Cleveland-gardens , W ., and they would there get instruction from as able a Preceptor as existed in the Craft , and concluded by cordially endorcing all that which had been said by those who preceded him in returning thanks . Bro . Foxley , who said he was present at the installation of the W . M ., expressed his satisfaction at the excellent working of his friend , Bro . Stephens , and the hearty reception and bountiful hospitality extended to the visitors , and

was sure unity and concord could not fail to continue under so genial a Master as now presided over them . " The Officers " toast was received with much applause , the W . M . taking them individually , and expressing his warm approval and thanks for the way they one and all had assisted him in carrying out his duties . Songs were given by Bros . Allman , Dew , Schwartz , Drew , and Hoare , accompanied by Bros . Windeyer , Clark , and Drew , adding { to the pleasure of the evening , which was concluded by the Tyler ' s toast .

MARQUIS OF RIPON LODGE ( No . 1 489 ) . —The installation meeting of the above lodge was held on the 2 nd inst ., at the Metropolitan Asylums' Almshouses , Ball ' s Pond-road , Dalston , N . Bro . W . Gray , W . M ., was capitally supported by Bros . Edwin George , S . W ., W . M . elect ; C . H . Fisher , J . W . j J . E . Halford , P . M ., Treas . j B . G . Poulton , I . G . ; Past Masters Tovell , T . Hastings , and Miller ; J . H . Clare , E . Ashby , G . Beck , R . I .

Campbell , R . H . Clack , VV . T . Grout , T . Glover , J . | . Patient , S . A . Calderson , T . White , C . Cohen , M . G . Bromley , T . Blundell , H . Patient , and others . Visitors : Bros . E . Morris , 51 ; H . Forsstom , 917 ; J . Smith , P . M . i 93 » H . J . Woodward , 1362 j C . M . Gray , P . M . 1920 ; G . J . Pope , J . W . 1364 ; J . W . Garwood , 193 ; J . Manger , J . W . 1017 ; G . Gwynne , 1613 ; G . H . Stephens , P . M . 1623 ( Freemason ); and others .

Considerable success has attended the period of office o £ Bro . Gray , VV . M ., and his endeavous to resuscitate 14 S 9 have been attended with good results to the lodge . In this good work Bro . Gray has been favoured with the warm cooperation of all the brethren , and particularly , and to a valuable degree , by the assistance of Bro . E . George , W . M . elect , who , besides proving an efficient S . Warden , most ably undertook and discharged the Secretarial duties

of the lodge . From this , and from the fact that Bro . Gray is newl y appointed the Secretary , we augur the realisation of as highly successful a future as we wish to it . All preliminary business having been disposed of , Bro . Gray proceeded to finish a capital year of working by installing his successor , Bro . Edwin George , W . M . elect , who was duly presented and obligated . Subsequently , in a Board of _ Installed Masters . Bro . Georee was inducted into the chair of

K . S . in ancient and solemn form . On the admission of the brethren the usual honours were paid , and Bro . George appointed his officers as follows : Bros . Fisher , S . W . ; Patient , J . W . ; Walford , P . M ., Treas . ; Wm . Gray , I . P . M ., Sec ; Patient , jun ., S . D . j Poulton , J . D . ; Beck , I . G . j Clack , D . C , j Bromley and Clare , Stewards ; Campbell , Org . j and J . J . March , P . M ., Tyler . Bro . H . Forss , W . M . 917 , and other Past Masters rendered

great assistance during the important ceremony . The Audit Committee next submitted their report , which was satisfactorily adopted , and , after the usual expressions of good wishes , lodge was closed . After a necessary interval to prepare the tables , a really capital banquet was provided by Bro . Altardyce , which , for quality and service , was calculated to afford entire satisfaction . The banquet at an end , the W . M ., in brief and

expressive terms , gave the usual toasts seriatim , all of which were duly honoured , and the speeches of the brethren being wisely brief , afforded time for them to display their vocal abilities to the enjoyment of all present . During these proceedings Bro . Wm . Gray , I . P . M ., wasthe recipient of a well earned mark of esteem of the brethren , which took the shape of a handsome Past Master sjewel , of elegant design . We congratulate No . 1489 upon the marked improvement made manifest at the close of Bro . Gray ' s adminis-

He now had the pleasure , in the name of the Lodge No . 45 , to present him ( Bro . Follett ) with a handsome epergne as a token of esteem for his kindness during the 10 years he has

been Treasurer of the lodge . Bro . Follett , in reply , said he hardly knew what to say , ex cept to thank one and all the brethren for such a token oi their esteem and goodwill . He had the interest of the lodge and of Masonry at heart , and whether acting as Steward of the Masonic Institutions or doing his part as an officer in the lodge , he would try and do his best to uphold
