APNidder seconded , a motion to this effect— "That Grand Lodge expresses disajiprova ) of the custom which prevails in some places of using Masonic emblems for business purposes ( other than those properly pertaining to the Craft ) , and direct daughter lodges to exhort any of their members who may be guilty of this unmasonic and mercenary
practice to discontinue tlie same . In supporting this resolution , Bro . MacFarlanc said thc main object was to get at the principal offenders with regard to Masonic emblems—he referred to thc brethren in connection with the public-house interest . He would not to give a teetotal lecture—he was not a teetotaller himself—^ laughter)—but he did not sec why these brethren should use Masonic emblems for the purpose of promoting their trade . He had seen them in
Aberdeen and in his own town ; they were to be seen in almost any town of any size . After some discussion as to the exact terms of thc resolution , Uro . W . Officer moved thc previous question . He held that Grand Lodge should not deal with this matter , as it involved delicate questions . Thc practice , he said , was universal , and Masons were taught to give a preference in their dealings to Masonic brethren . This amendment was seconded by Bro . A . W . Rcnnic , and was carried by a majority . The other business was not of general interest .
