Hunt then took place , Bro . Green in a very excellent style jierforming the lirst part by placing Bro . Hunt into the chair . Bro . A . J . Berry , afterwards gave the charges in an exceedingly impressive manner . Uro . Hunt appointed his officers as follows : Bros . Geo .
Green , I . P . M . ; H . A . W . Reeves , S . W . ; H . Rosling , J . W . ; J . W . Browne , S . D . ; T . Winter , J . D . ; W . N . Cooper , I . G . ; S . N . Berry ( elected ) Treas . ; G . In the course of the ceremony of investing the ofiicers , Bro . II . A . W . Reeves , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge , presented the Stewards' collars , and received the graciously expressed thanks of the W . M ., who duly invested the brethren appointed to those offices as abovementioned . "Hearty good wishes" were then given by the visiting brethren , and the lodge closed in due form . The brethren then adjourned to the banqueting-room .
At the conclusion of a sumptuous repast , the usual loyal , Masonic , and complimentary toasts were given and duly acknowledged . After the toasts of "The Oueen and thc Craft , " "The Prince of Wales , M . W . G . Mfof England ; the Pro G . M ., the Dep . G . M ., and Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " and "The Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Right Hon . Lord Suffield , K . C . U ., " had been proposed and drunk , thc
W . M . gave "The Dep . Prov . G . M ., Bro . Major Penrice , and Officers , Present and Past , of Prov . Grand Lodge . " The Prov . G . Sec , who was one of those chosen to respond for the toast , spoke of the p leasure it gave him in being present , and congratulated the lodge on the number of Installed . Masters who were present that evening to do honour to the occasion . Bro . Harwell regretted to say that lie had been obliged to tender his resignation as Prov . G .
Secretary , from circumstances oyer which he had no control . He found that the increasing number of brethren in tiic province necessaril y augmented the work of Prov . G . Secretary , and he found his duties materially interfered with his private business more than he could give ; however , he should always be happy to give such assistance as might be wanted , and would still have his heart in Masonry , as before .
The W . M . then rose , and said , that he had now como to the toast of the evening , which was that of " The Retiring W . M ., Bro . George Green , " and he only wished that the toast had fallen into better hands . He observed that they all knew Bro . Green's qualifications better than he could express—that his attention to Masonry had been most assiduous . The brethren had just had a proof of Bro . Green ' s proficiency in the recent ceremony . The W . M ,,
continuing , said that he had now a most pleasing and gratifying duty to jicrforni , which was to present Bro . Green with a small token of the respect and esteem of the brethren . Tlie W . M . then handed to Bro . Green an exceedingly handsome Past Master ' s jewel , subscribed to by thc members of the lodge , and , in doing so , observed that he hoped Bro . Green might have long life and good health to wear it amongst them , lie concluded by observing that he hoped ¦ ~
.. . ,, . _ . 1 ... 1 : * f ..- .-... :- » ..:....:.. ..-1 .... Bro . Green would not look upon it for its intrinsic value , but only as a present , and a token of the csteeri in which he was held by the brethren of the lodge . Bro . Green , in rising to respond , was received with immense cheering , and , in returning thanks , said , that it might truly be said of the position in which he fuundliimsclf placed that evening , that there are moments in our lives which are too pleasant to give expression to , but which are
calculated to impress us during the remainder of our existence , lie congratulated himself he had passed through every chair in the lodge , and had at all times received the greatest amount of kindness from this brethren , and he looked upon their kind present that night as only a security for their lasting kindness . Bro . Green observed that no brother knew better than he did his failings , both before and whilst in the chair , but his desire had been to save the
lodge and its interest , and he trusted to possess their sympathies and esteem , as hitherto shown him , for many years to come , before sitting down , Bro . Green said : I now , once more , possess the gavel . It is the privilege of the l . P . M . to give thc toast you areall expecting , and although in this iodge it is our custom that thc banquet on these occasions is considered to be given to the retiring W . M ., still I consider this toast of their present Master , Bro . J . J .
Hunt , to be the toast of the evening . It was a fact that persons late 111 life had great difficulty in mastering the important duties of the chair and maintaining the honour and prestige of the lodge over which they had the privilege of presiding , and although Bro . Hunt had experienced that difficulty , I will undertake to say that , considering the pains and assitiuity he had shewn in his past career , he will not be found wanting in those important duties . I hope that
when his year of ofiice expires he will look back with pleasure , as I do upon the past year , which has been one of the happiest of my life . Brethren , I give you the toast of "Our W . M ., Uro . J . J . Hunt . " The W M . on raising was received with great enthusiasm , and ( said , I thank you , Worshipful sir , and you brethrenfor the kind manner , in which you have received
, the toast of my health . I really cannot find words sufficient to thank you . 1 can only say that 1 will do my best to carry on the lodge as well as 1 can , and I trust we shall have a prosperous year , and be as successful as hitherto . It shall not be for want of my trying to make it so , but only through my want of ability in doing it . The toast of " Thc Visitors" was proposed and duly

acknowledged bv Uros . Rawling and Ouartcrmaster F . Mills . " 'The remaining toasts of the evening were " The Past Masters of the Cabbell Lodge , " " 'The Past Masters of other lodges , " "The Officers of Cabbell Lodge , " "The Ladies , " and " The Tylers toast , " which brought the evening to a close about 12 . 50 .
During thc evening some excellent songs iverc rendered by Uros . J . II . Urockbank , J . S . Offord , Robt . Ualdry , and others . 'The following inscription appears on the back of thc jewel presented to Uro . G . Green : "Presented by the brethren of Cabbell Lodge No . S 07 , to Uro . Geo . Green , on thc termination of his ' year of office as W . M ., as a token of their esteem and fraternal affection . Jan . 26 1 SS 2 . "

D . 317 ( Freemason ) . The lodge was opened at half-past three o ' clock , and after confirmation of the minutes , a gentleman was
ballottcd for and elected a member of the lodge , and subsequently initiated unto Freemasonry by the W . M . 'The ceremony of installation then commenced . I 5 ro . Ucnj * Taylor , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas ., Installing Master , occupied the chair , and after the presentation to him of the W . M . elect , Uro . Wm . Oilier , and the customary preliminaries , he installed that esteemed brother into the chair of K . S ., with due right and ceremony . Uro . Ucni . 'Taylor next
invested the newly appointed officers as follows : Uros . F , Wibberley , S . W . ; J . M . Graham , J . W . ; Thos . Hall , P . M ., Treas . ; J . II . Clarke , Secretary ( second time ); W . II . Malkin , S . D . ; Frank Roberts , J . D . ; Thomas Southern , P . M ., D . of C ; Uallantyne , I . G . ; John Davics and W . Boswell , Stewards ; and P . II . Nicholls , Tyler . Uro . Taylor also addressed the W . M . and brethren , and Uro . J . M . Dutton , P . M . iidii , the Wardens .
When the ceremony was finished , a proposition was put and carried that the l . P . M . be requested to sit for his portrait , which , when framed , bo returned to the lodge and hung up with those of the previous P . M . 's , and also that a fac-simile be presented lo Uro . Hall for his services as W . M . 'The proposition was carried . When " Hearty good Wishes" had been expressed the lodge was closed in peace and harmony at 6 . 40 .
'The festival of St John was aflewards celebrated with a banquet , at which , wlien the cloth had been removed , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . In response to that of " The Dep . P . G . Master , Geo . Mellen , and the Past and Present Prov . Grand Ofiicers , " Uro . Jno . II . Jenkins , P . P . G . Standard Hearer , thanked the brethren on behalf of the Prov . Grand Officers , and also the W . M . for his kind invitation . He congratulated
the lodge on its favourable position and considered it second to none . He stated this was the first lime he had visited the Harmony Lod ge and was pleased that he was present on such an auspicious occasion , when his old friend Win . Oilier , had been installed W . M ., a brother who was very highly respected , as was his family by everyone in Uroiighton , and he wished Uro . Oilier every success and a prosperous year of ollice .
The W . M . next proposed " The Health of the Initiate , " which was cordiall y received and duly responded to . Bro . Goodwin , P . M ., in rising to propose the toast of the evening , viz . " The W . M ., " said there appeared to him to have been a spirit of mischief alloat during the evening , which had culminated in fixing on him the duty of proposing this toast , which he thought he should be unable to do justice to . inasmuclias he was notso thoroughly acquainted
with the W . M . as somc of them were , but for all that , he believed they had elected a brother to preside over them who would fufil his duties with credit to himself , and one who was highly esteemed , not onl y by them , but by ail his neighbours , and therefore ; hcy had done themselves an honour in thus electing one whom he was sure had the ability to do what was required of him , and who had the
highest respect for the opinions of others . In conclusion , Bro . Goodwin said he had not been present with them during the last two years , but if spared it was his intention to attend more frequently , and he would , following the toast , ask the brethren to rise and drink heartily the health of their W . M . The invitation was promptly responded to , and the W . M . in a few happily framed sentences returned thanks .
Bro . Benjamin Iaylor , in eulogistic terms , proposed "The Health of thc l . P . M . " In the course of his remarks he said he considered he was taking his fair share of the mischief which Bro . Goodwin said was alloat , which he took especial pleasure in doing , inasmuch that twelve months ago he had the pleasure of installing their l . P . M . in the chair , and he was sure the brethren would all agree with him that no one could possibly have deserved their
thanks more than Bro . Hall , who had striven hard to do his duty , and had been successful . Bro . Taylor went on to say , we cannot speak too highly of him , and he had greater pleasure in presenting liim ' in the name of thc lodge with a gold Past Master ' s jewel , as a proof of the high esteem : in which he was held by them all ; and as he had no doubt Bro . Hall would appreciate the gift , he hoped that
when his children looked upon it they would be impelled to say , " My father has won by this token the golden opinions of his lodge , and I will go and do likewise . " Uro . Taylor ' s remarks were received with warm approval by the brethren , and the jewel , which was of 15-carat goid , and very chaste in design , was passed round for the brethren's inspection and much admired . It was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , Bridge-street , Manchester ,

G . ; S . N . Berry ( elected ) Treas . ; G . Baxter , Sec ; Thos . Camilling , D . C ; R . A . Madge , Org . ; C . Payne , J . Holt , and A . King , Stewards ; and W . Murrell , Tyler . Bro . R . Baldry was then elected as the representative on thc Chanties' Committee , and Bro . G . J . Berry Director of the Norwich Masonic Association .

Jan . 26 1 SS 2 . "

II .
