Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Dorsetshire ; J . B . Docker , P . M . 1 CS 7 ; Albert Fish , P . M . 13 OC ; and W . Lake , P . M . 131 , P . P . G . Reg . Cornwall (/• Vl'flll-H . TOII . ) 'The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the W . M . proceeded to raise Uro . Doble to the 'Third Degree , and to pass Uro . Austin to the Second . A ballot was then taken for two candidates , Mr . I . M .

Campbell and Mr . John Goring , and the latter being present , was duly initiated , the whole of the ceremony being performed by Bro . Dean in a masterly manner . Bro . Dr . David Shorter was then balloted for , and elected , as a joining member , and Bro . Montague Guest also proposed Bro . Hambro , D . G . M . for Dorset , as a joining member . Two other gentlemen were then proposed for initiation , and the

brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was exceedingly well-served by Bro . Gosden . At the termination of the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed in happy terms by the W . M ., and duly honoured . Bro . Travcrs in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " said that he had much pleasure in doing so , but regretted that their respected 'Treasurer , the

Prov . Grand Master for Dorset was not present to pcrlonn that pleasing duty . He nevertheless was very proud of the honour ; he could not say more than they all felt with regard to the W . M ., and they wished him and the lodge all prosperity . Bro . Dean , in reply , thanked the brethren most heartily . They knew , lie said , the great interest he took in the

Montague Guest Lodge , and it gave him the utmost pleasure to preside over them . In the ceremonies of the lodge everything worked so smoothly that his duties were rendered comparatively easy . 'Their success had been more than they anticipated . He was particularly gratified at the presence , for the first time in the lodge , of Bro . Montague Guest . He could assure them that ho would have been

with them on previous occasions , but he had been unavoidably prevented . That evening he had to leave to attend to his Parliamentary duties , but in April he trusted they would be honoured with his company . 'They had also been honoured that evening with the presence of the D . P . G . M . for Dorset , Bro . Hamliro , who unfortunately had to leave early as well , but as a member of the lodge they hoped to

welcome him at the next meeting . The W . M . then gave the toast of " The Initiate , " whom he was very pleased to see had taken great interest in the ceremony , and he hoped as he proceeded onward that interest would be deepened . Bro . Goring replied in suitable terms . Bro . Dean then proposed "The Health of the Acting

l . P . M ., Bro . Travcrs . " He thanked him for the . kind assistance which he always rendered , often coming a long distance to be present . Bro . 'Travcrs was so well known in Masonry that nothing he could say would add to his met its . Bro . Travcrs , in reply , said that when lirst he took the office of acting l . P . M . he promised to be present as often as he could . Fortunately he had been able to arrange his

business in London to lit into the lodge meeting's . It gave him great pleasure to fill that chair , as he always met there , as in all other lodges , a cordial and hearty reception . The next toast was that of "The Visitors , " the W . M . remarking that no lodge could be more pleased a ' : their presence than the Montague Guest . Bros . Docker , Fish , and Lake replied , each expressing

the great pleasure it had given them to be present , and congratulating the W . M . on the success which had attended fits rule . Bro . Dean then gave " The Health of the Secretary , Bro . | Collier , " than whom a better did not exist in any lodge . Much , he said , depended on the Secretary ; although thc W . M . might do a great deal , if his efforts were not backed by that officer it would be of little use . In Uro .

Collier they had a Secretary zealous in his duties and prompt in all his work . Bro . Collier , in reply , thanked the W . M ., and said that he had only done what every officer ought to do—his duty —and in that he was following in the footsteps of thc W . M . In proposing "iThe Health of the Officers , " Bro . Dean said that no W . M . could be more fortunate than he in his officers . The Senior Warden , Bro . Festa , had seconded him in all his elforts , and when at the expiration of iiis

year of ollice he received from his ( the W . M . s ; hands that gavel , the brethren would feel assured that the duties would be performed as efficiently as he had been able to do . The J . W ., Bro . Hedges , too , had been an excellent worker , and altogether he had reason to be proud of his officers . Bro . Festa , in reply , thanked the W . M . for all the kind

things he had said of him . He felt flattered at being chosen one of the officers of the lodge , and would continue to do all he could to promote its interests . It had started under excellent auspices , and if 'T . G . A . O . T . U . permitted him to succeed the W . M . he would endeavoui to follow in his footsteps . Bro . Hedges also replied , and said that if the officers had not all been such ardent Masons they must have blushed

to hear their praises sounded in thc way they had been that evening ; but whether deserved or not , he thanked the W . M . for all he had said . The other officers also returned thanks , and a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close . During thc evening several brethren contributed to the pleasures of the gathering by songs and recitations , which were well received and heartily applauded .

BRIXTON LODGE ( No , 1049 ) . —The first regular meeting was held at the Brixton Hall , Acre-lane , on Saturday last . Owing- to the dense fog- there was some delay in opening the proceedings , but eventually all the ollicers were in their respective positions The W . M ., Bro . H . Lovegrove , opened the lodge , supported by Bros . II . B . Marshall , S . W . ; W . E . Farrington , | . W . ; A . J . Cox ,

Secretary ; Firth Groves , S . D . ; H . Baldwin , J . D . ; C Killing , J . G . ; and J . Daly , 'Tyler . Uro . Poore acted as I . P . M .. 'The visitors were Uros . Field , P . M . 902 ; Williams , 72 ; Manning , 177 ; Poore , P . M . 720 ; Knight , 1507 ; Miller , 177 ; Tarr , 1293 , and others . 'The following were elected as joining members : Uros . Day , Colyer , Wilkins , Phillips , Hooper , Axford , and W . Farrington . 'Three

initiates , Messrs . R . Poore , E . Ncwb y , and E . P . Albert , were ballotted for and initiated , the first named ( by the courtesey of the W . M . ) being initiated by his father , who is so well known and respected in the Craft . The discussion and approval of the By-laws fo'lowed . Bro . W . Day was elected Treasurer , Bro . Colyer was appointed M . C ., and Bro . R . Poore , Steward . Thus ended a very succcs-Jul meeting of thc new lodge ,

their seats in the spacious hall , the Grand and I rovincial Grand Ollicers , and those of thc lodge , entered in procession , having been marshalled as usual by the excellent Director of Ceremonies . 'The usual processions , salutations , greetings and proclamations took place , and thc ceremony was concluded by thc customary addresses , that to thc W . thanking them for the honour conferred upon him , pledging himself to do his utmost to maintain the high character of the lodge , and explaining how it was that , though he had been a member of it for fifteen years , he had hitherto been prevented from attaining his present high position . He concluded by proposing a vote of thanks to the visitors for their attendance , naming several of distinguished rank , and especially the D . P . G . M ., Uro . R . C . Else .

This was responded to briefl y by the D . P . G . M . on behalf of the whole . He called particular attention to the admirable manner in which the ceremony of installation had been performed by Bro . Radway . On the proposition of Bro . Ashley , a cordial vote of thanks was accorded to thc retiring W . M . for his eminent services during the past year ; and the compliment was acknowledged in a few words only , in the hope of

expressing himself more fully at a later part of the evening . The lodge was closed at six o ' clock p . m ., and thc brethren adjourned to the Grand Hotel for thc banquet , to which nearly eighty sat down , amongst those present being Uro . J . S . Bartram , ( Mayor of Bath ) . The number would have been much greater , but for the circumstance that a very large social political meeting , attended by the Members for Bath , was being held at the Guildhall , and a high-class concert at the Assembly Rooms , it being known that at least

fifteen who would otherwise have been present were prevented by attendance with their families at the latter . The proceedings at the hotel were of the usual pleasant and congratulatory character . 'Ihe entertainment was sumptuous , and the musical arrangements , carried out by professional men , more than usually complete . It maybe added that many brethren from other lodges , whose names have not been given above , and whose arrangements had prevented their attendance at the Masonic Hall , joined the party at thc banquet , thus evincing their respect for the W . M .

Wilkin , the Steward of the Club , at thc conclusion of which the usual loyal , Masonic , and comjilimentary toasts were given and duly acknowledged . In the course of the evening Uro . Geo . Kersey rose and proposed "The Health of the W . M . " in highly complimentary terms , and spoke of him as one deserving the

esteem of the brethren of the lodge ; that they found in him a true brother in his Masonic , private , and business rapacities . It was in consequence of this geniality that the brethren had thought fit to jilacc him in his present proud position ; and he trusted the brethren woufd rally round and support him to make the ensuing year successful to the lodge . In conclusion , Uro . Kersey observed that he trusted Bro . Pen wick in his new position would be a true and shining light in Masonry , that its beauty might appear

more radiant . Bro . Fendick rose amidst great enthusiasm , and responded in suitable terms , promising thc brethren that it should ever be his duty to promote the welfare of the lodge , and strictly to adhere to the ritual of Masonry . The next important toast was proposed by the W . M ., which was "'The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Geo . Kersey , " and spoke of the present duty as bcintr a very onerous .

although [ ileasing one , inasmuch as their past year had been highly successful for thc lodge . He commented at length upon Uro . Kersey ' s good qualifications , and concluded by observing that he had been deputed by the officers and brethren of thc lodge to present Bro . Kersey with a very handsome P . M . ' s jewel subscribed for by them , stating that the brethren were unanimous in thinking I 3 ro . Kersey well deserved the honour .

Ihe jewel bore the following inscription on the back thereof : " Presented to Bro . George Kersey , W . M . Perseverance Lodge , No . 213 , by thc officers and brethren , as a mark of esteem and regard . Jan . 17 , 1 SS 2 . " Uro . Kersey , on rising to respond , was received with great applause , and observcd | thcir kindness and present had created in him a feeling of difficulty in that he could not sufficiently thank them for the honour they had done him ,

which came so unexpectedly ; he could only express to them his very deep gratitude . He observed that his year of ofiice had been a pleasant one , in that he had always received the cordial and hearty support of his officers , which had rendered his duties less onerous . He was proud to congratulate the brethren on their success during thc

past year . They had had the average number of initiations , the funds of the lodge were in a prosperous condition , and that it had ever been his [ ileasing duty to keep it so ; and that so long as he should be connected with them he should ever consider it to be his duty to work for the honour and welfare of . thc lodge . Bro . Kersey resumed his scat amidst hearty applause .

TOII . ) 'The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the W . M . proceeded to raise Uro .

'The usual processions , salutations , greetings and proclamations took place , and thc ceremony was concluded by thc customary addresses , that to thc W . Dr . II . Hopkins , after the W . M . had appointed and invested the following as his officers : Bros . C . \ V . Radway , l . P . M . ; E . | . B . Mercer , S . W . ; J . W . Murlis , J . Wi ; T . thanking them for the honour conferred upon him , pledging himself to do his utmost to maintain the high character of the lodge , and explaining how it was that , though he had been a member of it for fifteen years , he had hitherto been prevented from attaining his present high position .
