terms their determination to preserve inviolate the Union subsisting between them and the Grand and Royal Chapter of the Royal Arch of Jerusalem , in opposition to the innovations proposed in a circular letter sent to them by the Chapter of Emulation . II . The Principals of the Chapter of Emulation having attended the General Chapter of Communication in May , i-n- and consented to the following Resolution then passed ,
viz ., "That such Chapters as had not been regular in transmitting their registering fees , do forthwith send in a list of their companions exalted , with such a sum of money for registering their names in the Grand and Royal Chapter , as the Principal of every such Chapter shall declare

ORDERED , IV . That the above Resolutions , together with the following Address , be printed and sent to all the Chapters acting under this constitution . ADDRESS .
It appears to this Chapter necessary , at this juncture , to address the several Chapters constituted under the authority of the CHARTER of COMPACT , upon a subject of the most serious consequence to the future dignity and welfare of this sublime degree . A memorial has been circulated with great industry by the Chapter of Emulation , with a view to dissolve a . system which has had the test of long experience to insure its
support . Thus attacked , it is believed , every companion , calling to his recollection the Union and Harmony which have so long distinguished Arch Masonry , will feel an anxious desire to resist innovation , and that , by well directed exertions , they will endeavour to preserve to the science that pre-eminence of rank it so justly merits . If the companions who signed that memorial had only wished to amend any part of the system they thought
defective , a contrary conduct to that which they have assumed would have been pursued . In the place of attempting to create a schism in the order , and conceiving themselves qualified " to compact one with another , " to take the future management of Royal Arch Masonry into their hands , they would ( to shew the purity of their intentions ) have complied first with those Resolutions which passed , when they were present , SOME of
which were actually proposed by themselves , particularly that Resolution for payment of the registering fees . The framers of that Memorial , having insidiously misrepresented the conduct of the Grand Lodge of Craft Masons , upon a complaint made by a late companion against the officers of the Grand and Royal Chapter ; the Grand Lodge very properly observed on that occasion , that it had nothing to do with a matter originating in another independent
society , competent to judge of and determine on its own affairs . . •. To counteract the intentions of that Memorial , clearly calculated and designed to mislead and deceive , this Chapter of Communication finds it necessary to declare , in the most solemn manner , that it will , upon every occasion , exert all its powers to promote the prosperity , union , and harmony , so essential in Royal Arch Masonry .
( By Order ) 1 . J . PRICHARD , E . XV . WRIGHT , A ^ . N . B . —The next General Chapter of Communication will be held at Free Mason' Tavern , on Thursday , the ipth day of December next , at Six o'clock in the evening , when the attendance of the Principals of the several Chapters is
particularly requested ; and it is hoped that those Chapters that are still in arrear for their registering fees , will , conformable to the Resolution of the General Chapter of Communication in May 1792 , transmit the same to the Principal Scribe , ten days at least , previous to such meeting , in order that the account of the charity-fund may be properly stated .

in favour of Bro . Jordan , S . W . ; Bro . VV . Carter , P . M ., was re-elected Treasurer for the twenty-sixth time ; and Bro . Longstaff , Tyler . The election of Auditors and members of the Benevolent Committee then took place . Previously to the lodge being closed , it was announced that a vote of condolence to the widow and family of the late
respected and deeply regretted 13 ™ . Morrison , P . M ., had been forwarded to them in the name of the lodge . The customary Past Master's jewel having been voted to the outgoing VV . M ., the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts followed , and were duly honoured .
TEMPERANCE-IN-THE-EAST LODGE ( No . S 98 ) . —A capital meeting of the above old and nourishing lodge was held at the Assembly Rooms , Newbyplace , Poplar , E . Bro . Pulsford , W . Some important Charity business was disposed of , and other matters dealt with .
After the lodge a substantial cold collation was enjoyed , and this was followed by the usual toast list being duly and thoroughly honoured . Some excellent singing also was heartily enjoyed , Bro . Sherwin as usual accompanying . It was announced that the lodge of instruction had again resumed its labours on VVednesday evenings , and that a Masonic Charitable Association was being formed in connection with it . We wish the Temperance brethren all success in their charitable undertaking .
VILLIERS LODGE ( No . 1194 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Saturday , the 4 th inst ., at the Mitre , Hampton Court , when there ivere present Bros . Gambrill , VV . S . Peachey . The lodge was opened , and after the minutes had been approved and the report of the Audit received , the W . M . proceeded to install his successor , Bro . George Gilby , into
the chair of W . M . for the ensuing year . I he VV . M . then appointed and invested his officers as follows : Bros . Wm . Vincent , S . W . ; Edward Monson ( by proxy ) , J . W . ; R . A . Thomas , W . S . ; and John Gilbert , Tyler . The manner in which
the outgoing VV . M . installed his successor and delivered the address reflected great credit on him . It has , we are given to understand , been the custom in this lodge for some years past for the W . M . to install his successor . The ballot was then taken for two brethren for initiation . One being present—Mr . Charles Dodd —( no relation , we were informed , of the Secretary)—was initiated by the
newlyinstalled W . M . in a most impressive manner . After the lodge was closed , the brethren partook of the installation banquet , which was of the usual excellent character , for which B-o . Sadler , of the Mitre , is renowned . 'The brethren all enjoyed themselves until the time of departure of the train , nearly all the brethren returning to the vicinity of the great city . VVe must not forget to mention the
excellent singing of the Organist , Bro . Strong , who is the Organistof St . Jude's , South Kensington , and congratulate the lodge on having soexcellenta musician amongst their members . We also noticed Bro . Henry Pariter is a member , and wrote to say he would have been present had he not been engaged at the Guildhall School of Music .

P . M . 179 ; R . J . Albery , 192 S ; and lastly the highl esteemed Deputy Prov . Grand Master for Middlesex , Bro . Raymond H . Thrupp , who takes so much interest in the prosperity of the lodges in his province , not only congratulated'the lodge on the work he had heard , but sang a very
amusing song . Altogether it was a most agreeable meeting , and if eclipsed by any previous installation , it was the only one since the commencement of thc lodge , when the brethren had an opportunity of witnessing an eclipse of the moon , which was seen to perfection .
ST . MARTIN'S . LE-GRAND LODGE ( No . J 5 J S ) . — 'The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday evening at the Guildhall Tavern . Bro . T . J . Robertson , VV . M ., presided . The attendance of brethren was good . The VV . M . first raised Bro . E . J . Harper to the Third Degree , and afterwards installed Bro . J . P . Parkes as VV . M . for the year ensuing . The ceremony was
performed most brilliantly , and concluded a year of working not to be excelled in any lodge . ' The brethren appointed toofficewere Bros . Hatch , S . VV . ; Leversedge , | . W . ; Woodward , P . M ., Sec . ; Fluck , S . D . ; Barnett , J . D . ; Larking , I . G . ; and Archer , Org . Bro . Robertson then delivered the addresses , and the VV . M ., as his first duty , presented to Bro . Robertson , I . P . M ., in the name of the lodge , a
beautiful Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of his eminent services to the lodge , both as a worker and a donor . After Bro . Robertson had acknowledged the gift , the report of the Audit Committee , which showed a very handsome balance in favour of the lodge , was read and approved . A Committee was appointed to revise the bye-laws , and the lodge was then closed .
The brethren subsequently partook of a charming banquet , and afterwards honoured the usual toasts . The proposition of these toasts , together with the icsponses , were given in the fewest possible words ; but the Master , in proposing "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Robertson , " said that the lodge were deeply indebted to that brother for the magnificent way in which he had
performed the ceremony of installation that evening . Every brother who witnessed the ceremony must have been highly gratified with it , as he had had an insight into Freemasonry whicli could not have been better shown , go where they might .. Bro . Robertson had worthily concluded his very successful year b y installing his successor , and the brethren would remember in his favour what an excellent Master he
had been ; . The brethren having heartily drunk the toast , Bro . Robertson , in responding , said that 12 months ago he very modestly , refrained from prognosticating or promising what he would do for his year of office . Well had it been for him th ' at'he had been so reticent . He never could have foreseen tlie changes that had taken place . Some
brethren had seceded from the lodge , who probably imagined they had some cause of offence ; but he thought they had been mistaken . No doubt differences must exist . He had met with troubles , perplexities , and adversities in his year ; but , with thc kind assistance and encouragement of the brethren , he was happy to say he had come out triumphantly from the ordeal , and felt none
the worse for it . And why ? Because his cause had been just and right . He had perhaps attempted to bring about some reforms and improvements in the lodge ; but his own desire had been to fix responsibility , where it could possibly rest , on the shoulders of the VV . M . 'They then knew where to expect and where to find redress . He had perhaps met with the fate of all reformers—he had been maligned . The
work of re-organisation was always difficult , as Artemus found when he attempted to re-organise his wife . One brother who was present as a visitor at an installation meeting of this lodge described it as a serious debauch , notwithstanding the only harm the lodge did that brother was to make him as comfortable and as happy as they could . He ( Bro . Robertson ) left his office that evenintr
with the best feelings towards the brethren . He was not conscious of having done anything that would give cause of offence . Their duty should be to pull together , and try to make thc lodge a greater success than it had been . The brethren who had left the lodge had left their money to be spent by the brethren who were left . He had no doubt they would have health and ability to do it . In conclusion , he expressed his heartfelt wish that Dr . Watts ' s words might
come true" Behold ! how joyful 'tis to see The brethren dwell in unity ; Oh I may no angry strife destroy That heavenly peace , that holy joy . " The other toasts followed , Several brethren contributed to the enjoyment of a most pleasant evening by giving some beautiful songs and recitations .
FARRINGDON WITHOUT LODGE ( No . i ? 45 ) - —A meeting of this lodge was held on the 29 th ult ., at the Viaduct Hotel . Among those present were Bros . H . B . Marshall , Grand Treas ., VV . M ., through illness , was received with great regret , and subsequently it was unanimously resolved : " That in consideration of Bro . Jacques' valuable services as a founder and Past Master of the lodge he be elected an honorary member . " Several communications from absent members having been read , the lodge was duly closed .

M ., was well supported by his officers , Bros . Sidders , S . VV . ; Butcher , J . VV . ; J . R . Waller , P . M ., Treas . ; Dr . C . W . Smith , P . M ., Treas . ; G . Gravely , P . M . ; Chapman , P . M . ; H .
Rogers , P . M . ; S . T . Tinch , P . M . ; Cooper , P . M . ; Williams , P . M . ; C . Scrutton , P . M . ; and numerous brethren and visitors . The business transacted was the initiation of Mr . C . M . Hams , and conferring the Third Degree upon Bro . Cadman . In these ceremonies the VV . M . acquitted himself very creditably , and gave all present entire satisfaction .
W . ; R . A . Steel , P . M ., Treas . ; Wm . Dodd , P . M ., Sec ; T . Foot ( by proxy ) , S . D . ; J . Adams , J . D . ; P . Monson , I . G . ; D . Strong , Org . ; R . Saxton Besant , D . C . ; Geo .
Amongst the visitors we noticed Bros . Robertson , VV . M . 153 S ; -Murlis , P . M . 1 G 42 ; Wimpey , 2012 ; Shaw , 1441 ; VV ... Crichton Saunders , 1362 ; Godden , 1446 ; Bottle , . W . Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
P . M . 179 ; R .
