as joining members , and were elected . Mr . John Foster was then initiated into thc mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry by the W . M . At six o ' clock the brethren adjourned for tea , of which some fifty-seven partook . At seven o ' clock they re-assembled in the lodge room , and Bro . J . W . P . Salmon , P . M ., assumed tbe chair , and initiated Mr . G . B . Kershaw into Freemasonry . The W . M .

afterwards resumed his functions , and initiated Mr . D . D . Macpherson into Freemasonry . The W . M . presented and explained the working tools to Bros . Foster , Kershaw , and Macpherson collectively ; and Bro . J . M . Sinclair gave the charge to them in a very impressive manner . Considering this was the first meeting since the installation ol Bro . T . E . Williams , the greatest praise must be awarded

to him and his officers for the efficient manner in which they worked thc ceremony , and no stranger would have thought this was the first time they had filled their respective offices . One other candidate was proposed for initiation at the next meeting , and " Hearty good wishes " having been expressed by the visitors , the lodge was

closed in peace and harmony at 8 . 30 . At the social board the brethren were kept merry by the unapproachable vocal and instrumental talent of Bro . J . H . Greenwood , whose appearance is at all times hailed with delight , and a pleasant evening was brought to a close about 10 . 30 .

raising of the lodge to the Second Degree , Bro . James Gooden , who was ready to take his Third Degree , was in the most masterly manner raised to thc Sublime Degree of a M . M . by the W . M ., whose maiden effort it was , and who performed the whole of the ceremony unassisted , to the unbounded admiration of all present . On the conclusion of the ceremony thc lodge was

duly lowered , and Bro . J . Dawson , P . M ., proposed , and Bro . John R . Lever seconded , "That a gold P . M . ' s jewel be presented out of the funds of the lodge to Bro . Daniel Donbavand , P . M ., for his services as W . M . during 1878 . The motion was unanimously carried . After some discussion on various lodge matters , the visiting brethren expressed their " Hearty good wishes , " and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony at 8 . 30 .

M . having given orders for their admission , they entered , and were received

Pankhurst , with a jewel , in recognition of the way in which he has during the past year conducted the proceedings of the

lodge . The Installed Master is thoroughly well up to his work , and thanks tothe school of instruction his officers are able to give him every support . Without doubt the installation oLBro . S . N . Berry and the banquet to the retiring \ V . M ., * Bro . E . Pankhurst , will henceforward be considered a red-letter day in the annals of Cabbell Lodge .

The business before the lodge consisted of the passing of Bros . C . Ellis and T . R . Richardson to the Second Degree , which , being happily effected , the lodge was closed , and the brethren partook uf supper , served nicely and with care by Bro . Tucker at the social board . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by Bro . Lloyd with that quiet and effective neatness that is so acceptable to all

Masons . He paid a deserved compliment to the genialhearted and good and noble brother who presides over the province , Lord Holmesdale , and his equally popular colleague , Bro . Eastes , the D . P . Grand Master . The toast of the rest of the Grand Provincial Officers , Present and Past , was coupled with thc names of Bros . Coupland and Tongue , the latter of whom , at the request of Bro .

Coupland , replied to the toast . He said that he thanked them very much for coupling his name with so important a toast . His lordship , their esteemed Grand Master , was an excellent Mason and a good man . He had had the pleasure of seeing him both in that lJdge and in P . G . Lodge , and he had always expressed his satisfaction at the progress made by the Pattison Lodge ,

and the pleasure he felt at hearing of their prosperity . Bro . Hayes , I . P . M ., then propos : d "The Health of the W . M ., " making a very pleasing reference to the fact that he had that night passed his son-in-law , Bro . Richardson , who held a high position in Woolwich , to the Second Degree , and , from what hc could gather , there was some onc nearer and dearer to him yet to come into the lodge

at their next meeting . Bro . Lloyd briefly returned thanks , and said they could better imagine than hc could express thc pleasure it afforded him , as W . M ., to be the means of introducing his son-in-law , Bro . Richardson , into tha lodge , but , as Bro . Hayes had said , at their next meeting he hoped to be able to introduce his son , who had just arrived at mature age , into thc secrets and privileges of

Freemasonry , and when that night arrived , and he initiated one son into Masonry and raised the other to the Sublime Degree , he should feel proud of his Masonic career , of the high position he held as Master of the Pattison Lodge , and the feeling that would inspire his heart , namely , that he had not lived and worked as a Mason in that dear old lodge of theirs in vain . To the toast of "The Past

Masters , Bro . Ellis Fermor said they , as Past Masters , were very happy and fortunate men to meet with such good feeling as was continually evinced towards them in that lodge . The true instincts and teaching of Masonry were paramount there , and nothing afforded him so much pleasure as to see it promoting at every meeting of the Lodge a good and hearty feeling of

friendship and brotherly love ; might it long continue . Bro . Vincent , P . M ., said he could not allow the occasion to pass without drawing the Master's attention to the fact that there were at that moment nine Past Masters of thc lodge present . The next toast was then of " The Visitors , " and Bros . Hutton , De Gray , and Aillud responded . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings .

C , was entrusted , and retired . The lodge was then opened in the Third Degree , and the candidate being re-admitted he was duly raised to
