Bro . E . T . Turnbull , I . P . M ., in reply , said : I have to thank you for the cordial and enthusiastic manner in which you have received the toast of my health , and especially the W . M . for the flittering comments he has been pleased to make with respect to my poor abilities . It is with extreme self-satisfaction that 1 have , for the first time in my life , to reply to the toast of the I . P . M . and Installing Master . I thought a year ago , when I was installed as W . M ., that I had reached the summit of my ambition and had climbed to the top of the Masonic ladder . I find from experience that there is a
lot more to do , but you may rest assured I shall have a good try to do it . There are two ways of getting off the top of a ladder—the old-fashioned method of falling off , which I do not recommend , and the more or less graceful way of stepping off . I have now reached the ranks of the Past Masters , upon whose merits I have often expatiated , and I have often referred to them as the embodiment of thos : three Masonic ornaments—wisdom , strength , and beauty . Now that I have joined their ranks , I have not quite made up my mind under which head to class myself . I shall endeavour to
wear my halo of glory with becoming dignity . During my year I have initiated no less than 15 candidates , and have carried out the necessary passings and raisings , and I am thankful to the Great Architect that I have been blessed with health and strength to carry out the work . I must not fail to express my sincere gratitude to you for having unanimously voted and presented me with this beautiful jewel , which I can assure you 1 shall look upon with veneration and respect . 1 hope that the peace and concord which have been so characteristic during 18 95 may continue for many happy years , and that we may meet together on these occasions united and happy .
