Before he sat down he would like to say that he was Steward for the Boys' School , and through the kindness of the brethren he took up £ 115 . which he thought was the second highest

sum of the Perseverance Lodge . He trusted his successor would be able to take up double that amount . He knew it was his ambi : ion to go up as Steward , and he hoped the brethren would support Bro . Watts as they had supported him ( Bro . Lonsdale ) . He thanked the brethren for the jewel that had been presented to him ; he should wear it as a memento of a very pleasant year of olfice . Nothing would give him greater pleasure than to be among the brethren . He was not going to leave them .

Bros . Roots , Winsor , and others responded to the toast of "The Visitors , " and Bros . Leins , Terry , Squierce , and others to that of " The Past Masters . " The remaining toasts were also given before the brethren sepirated . The donations to the Benevolent-box amounted to 17 s . nd .

After the closing of the Iodge , the brethren adjourned to the Bear and Key Hotel , where an excellent banquet was served by Bro . J . II . Fielding , there being between 70 and So brethren present . After dinner the usual toasts were honoured . There was a charming selection of vocal music by Bros . Plant , Vates , Pearson , and Rhodes , with instrumental items by Bros . F . A . Johnson and H . Hemsley . Thc W . M . presided with great geniality and spirit , and a most enjoyable evening crowned a very successful festival .

Passmore , I . P . Z ., presided , and among the members and visitors present were Comps . R . F . Gould , P . Z ., as H . ; J . W . H . Littleboy , J . ; J . B . S . Lincaster , P . Z ., S . E . ; A . G . Clinton , 1 st A . S . ; A . M . Kennett , 2 nd A . S . ; Allied Gibbs ; and G . j . Mason , Janitor .

The minutes of the previous convocation having l-jen read and confirmed , the S . E . notified to the com * anions the serious illness of Comp . A . H . Askham , P . Z ., H ., which it was fea red wculd prevent his further attendance at their meetings . A resolution embodying the regret of the companions and their earnest h •¦; that Comp , Askham might after a shirt interval be able to resume his duties in t ' l : c upter wis the 1 carried by acclimation . Besides being Second Principal of the chapter , Comp . Askham is also S . W . and W . M . elect of the Bisley Lodge , in the chair of which , under ordinary circumstances , he was to be installed on the 7 th prox . This arrangement , however , cannot now be proceeded with , and the services of Comp . Askham in both chairs , which hid been looked

forward to with pleasurable anticipation by the brethren of the lodge and the compinions of the chapter , can no longer be hoped for . Comp . Askham is not only a veteran P . M . and P . Z ., but also a Provincial Grand Officer of long standing . His pleasing manners and genial disposition have greatly endeared him to all his Masonic friends , and his readiness at a moment ' s notice to step into the breach , in the absence of a brother or

companion , and perform any ceremony that might appear on the agenda of either lodge or chapter was well known and extensively availed of in the Provinces of Surrey and Hampshire . The Scribe E . further announced that Comp . Major Collins , P . Z ., Treas ., finding it impossible to attend regularly , felt compelled , though most reluctintly , to sever his connection with the chapter . The resignition was accepted with great regret , and Comp . Major Collins was elected an honorary member . There being no further business , the chapter was closed , and the companions dined together .

W . ; Knight , J . VV . ; D . Harlow , P . M ., Preceptor ; Meadows , P . M ., Sec ; John G . Robeson , S . D . ; Butcher , J . D . ; Welsh , LG . ; Roberts , P . M . ; Kinipple , P . M . ; Spencer , Brown , Farr , Stevenson , Wynman , Dixon , Sergeant , Bush , Jenkins , and Lloyd . Bro . H . Parkinson , 132 S , was a visitor .

The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed . The lodge was then opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Brown , offering himself as a candidate , answered the usual questions and was entrusted . The W . M . opened the lodge in the Third Degree , and rehearsed the ceremony of raising , Bro . Brown acting as candidate . The brethren then went through Masonic drill ( a very important and necessary part of Masonic instruction , as many brethren are far from perfect in this matter , a fact that has so impressed itself upon their able Preceptor that

he has it as often as circumstances permit ) . The lodge was then closed in the Third and Second Degrees respectively , after which the W . M . rose the usual times , at the second of which Bros . Burt and Bush were unanimously elected joining members , and Bto . Burt to occupy the chair on the first Wednesday in October . Next Wednesday being officers' night of the mother lodge and the following being the fifth in the month , the lodge is placed at the disposal of the Preceptor , when some excellent working is invariably seen and a Masonic treat enjoyed by all present under the able presidency of Bro . Harlow as W . M . The lodge was then closed .

BLACKHEATH LODGE , No . 1320 . The weekly meeting of the above Iodge was held at the Stirling Castle Hotel , Church-street , Camberwell , on Monday , the 13 th inst ., when there were present Bros . S . T . Baker , W . M . ; G . Thompson , S . W . ; Potter , J . W . ; Wm . Dawson , P . M ., Preceptor ; C . H . Stone , P . M ., Sec ; Wright , S . D . ; Gulliford , J . D . ; Brambleby , I . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed ^ The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Lord being tbe candidate , who having offered himself , answered the usual questions , was entrusted and retired . The Lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Lord was passed in due form . Bro . G . Thompson was elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting . The ceremony of installation was rehearsed by Bro . Ballard , W . M . 1 C 22 , who invested Bro . G . Thompson . The W . M . afterwards invested his officers . The addresses were ably rendered by Bro . S . Ballard , for which he had the hearty congratulations of the lodge , it being the first time . After the closing of the Iodge , the brethren adjourned to the Bear and Key Hotel , where an excellent banquet was served by Bro . J . II . Fielding , there being between 70 and So brethren present . After dinner the usual toasts were honoured . There was a charming selection of vocal music by Bros . Plant , Vates , Pearson , and Rhodes , with instrumental items by Bros . F . A . Johnson and H . Hemsley . Thc W . M . presided with great geniality and spirit , and a most enjoyable evening crowned a very successful festival .

The minutes of the previous convocation having l-jen read and confirmed , the S . E . notified to the com * anions the serious illness of Comp . A . H . Askham , P . Z ., H ., which it was fea red wculd prevent his further attendance at their meetings . A resolution embodying the regret of the companions and their earnest h •¦; that Comp , Askham might after a shirt interval be able to resume his duties in t ' l : c upter wis the 1 carried by acclimation . Besides being Second Principal of the chapter , Comp . Askham is also S . W . and W . M . elect of the Bisley Lodge , in the chair of which , under ordinary circumstances , he was to be installed on the 7 th prox . This arrangement , however , cannot now be proceeded with , and the services of Comp . Askham in both chairs , which hid been looked

forward to with pleasurable anticipation by the brethren of the lodge and the compinions of the chapter , can no longer be hoped for . Comp . Askham is not only a veteran P . M . and P . Z ., but also a Provincial Grand Officer of long standing . His pleasing manners and genial disposition have greatly endeared him to all his Masonic friends , and his readiness at a moment ' s notice to step into the breach , in the absence of a brother or

companion , and perform any ceremony that might appear on the agenda of either lodge or chapter was well known and extensively availed of in the Provinces of Surrey and Hampshire . The Scribe E . further announced that Comp . Major Collins , P . Z ., Treas ., finding it impossible to attend regularly , felt compelled , though most reluctintly , to sever his connection with the chapter . The resignition was accepted with great regret , and Comp . Major Collins was elected an honorary member . There being no further business , the chapter was closed , and the companions dined together .

The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed . The lodge was then opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Brown , offering himself as a candidate , answered the usual questions and was entrusted . The W . M . opened the lodge in the Third Degree , and rehearsed the ceremony of raising , Bro . Brown acting as candidate . The brethren then went through Masonic drill ( a very important and necessary part of Masonic instruction , as many brethren are far from perfect in this matter , a fact that has so impressed itself upon their able Preceptor that

he has it as often as circumstances permit ) . The lodge was then closed in the Third and Second Degrees respectively , after which the W . M . rose the usual times , at the second of which Bros . Burt and Bush were unanimously elected joining members , and Bto . Burt to occupy the chair on the first Wednesday in October . Next Wednesday being officers' night of the mother lodge and the following being the fifth in the month , the lodge is placed at the disposal of the Preceptor , when some excellent working is invariably seen and a Masonic treat enjoyed by all present under the able presidency of Bro . Harlow as W . M . The lodge was then closed .

BLACKHEATH LODGE , No . 1320 . The weekly meeting of the above Iodge was held at the Stirling Castle Hotel , Church-street , Camberwell , on Monday , the 13 th inst ., when there were present Bros . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed ^ The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Lord being tbe candidate , who having offered himself , answered the usual questions , was entrusted and retired . The Lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Lord was passed in due form . Bro . G . Thompson was elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting . The ceremony of installation was rehearsed by Bro . Ballard , W . M . 1 C 22 , who invested Bro . G . Thompson . The W . M . afterwards invested his officers . The addresses were ably rendered by Bro . S . Ballard , for which he had the hearty congratulations of the lodge , it being the first time .
