'The Commander-in-Chief has approved of the 14 th Hussars furnishing the escort for the new Lord Mayor on Monday , the ioth prox ., and has also given permission for the bands of the Household Cavalry , Royal Artillery , 14 th Hussars , Royal Fusiliers , and Royal London Militia taking part in the procession .
The rifle butts at Park , Tottenham , were totally destroyed by fire on Sunday last . These butts , which were originally erected in 1 S 60 , were 100 yards long , and 50 feet high , and contained upwards of 100 , 000 bundles of faggots . The damage is estimated at between ^ . ' 2000 and . £ 3000 , but fortunately the property was insured .

On Saturday last , at the famous Dinonvic Quarries in Carnar . onshire , the largest blasting operation ever attempted in North VVales was successfully carried out , after a series of operations which had been in progress for between two and three years . The gelatine used amounted to about 7000 lbs ., and vvas equal in strength to about 20
tons of gunpowder . I his had been lodged in sundry chambers which had been excavated in the rock , and the result of the explosion was the displacement of about a quarter of a million tons of rock , the removal of which will , it is estimated , occupy several hundred hands for a period of nine months . Bro . Grantham Dodd , at the recent provincial meeting of the Incorporated Law Society at Nottingham , read a paper on "Actions for breach of Promise of Marriage , " when , upon his motion , a resolution was unanimously passed that it is inexpedient to abolish such actions . The reading of this paper—in vvhich the various legal decisions bearing on the subject were referred to—caused much amusement as Bro . Dodd also introduced some original anecdotes .
On Saturday last , at the famous Dinonvic Quarries in Carnar . onshire , the largest blasting operation ever attempted in North VVales was successfully carried out , after a series of operations which had been in progress for between two and three years . The gelatine used amounted to about 7000 lbs ., and vvas equal in strength to about 20
tons of gunpowder . I his had been lodged in sundry chambers which had been excavated in the rock , and the result of the explosion was the displacement of about a quarter of a million tons of rock , the removal of which will , it is estimated , occupy several hundred hands for a period of nine months . A terrible fire broke out at the establishment of Messrs . Rowley and Brock , hat manu f acturers , Middle-street and
Newbury-street , Cloth Fair , E . G ., on Monday afternoon , between the hours of one and two p . m ., with the result that a man was killed and five girls burnt to death , while five men and five women were more or less seriously injured , and taken to St . Bartholomew ' s Hospital . Three of the injured
have since died . The fire originated through an explosion of naphtha , and the flames spread so rapidly that the workpeople had little or no time to escape . Great praise is due to two of the foremen , by whose exertions many lives vvhich would otherwise have been sacrificed vvere saved .

We understand a petition will shortly be presented for a charter for a new lodge at Oldbury . It is proposed that it shall be named the Godson Lodge , as a compliment to Bro . A . F . Godson , Q . C , M . P ., D . P . G . M . of Worcestershire . The Rev . George Rodney Eden , M . A ., who on Saturday will be consecrated Bishop Suffragan of Dover at Canterbury Cathedral , will , as his first official act , re-open the ancient church at Coldred , near Dover , vvhich has been restored at considerable cost .

While the Emperor William was hunting in Theerbude he shot a famous stag , called the " shovel-stag , " because of its broad , sixteen ended antlers . Every year , at the end of September , this stag used to appeir on the Wolfsburg , in the forest of Szittkehmen , and send forth its challenge weeks together . Its antlers will form one of the rarest and most splendid sporting ornaments .
The Solicitor-General , Sir Edward Clarke , Q . C , M . P ., will open the handsome public library given to the parish of Camberwell by Mr . Some Japanese officials have just visited Wiesbaden , and it is understood that the Mikado also intends to come to Europe in the spring , and will reside at Wiesbaden for two months next summer .
