A petition to the Board of Benevolence , on behalt of the widow of a late member of the lodge , vvas signed by a majority of the brethren present , and an application for assistance vvas considered and decided against , the case not commending itself to the sympathy of the brethren . This closed the business of the evening , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet vvhich followed , vvhich was served
m Bro . Sams usual excellent style . The VV . M . afterwards gave the customary loyal and Masonic toasts , which were duly honoured . The Charity box was passed round the table , and received a very creditable addition to the Benevolent Fund of the lodge . Songs were given by several of the brethren , and a very harmonious meeting was brought to a close .
Marquess of Ripon Lodge ( No . 14 S 9 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge was held on the 3 rd inst ., at the Old Cock Hotel , Highbury . Bro . B . G . Poulton , W . M ., presided , and he was supported by , among others , Bros . VV . Gray , P . M . ; C . H . Fisher , P . M . ; J . VVilson , P . M . ; F . Tovell , P . M . ; J . E . Walford , P . Simmonds , 1471 ; V . Earner , VV . M . 157 ; VV . J . Harris , S . D . 1321 j and Egbert Roberts , P . M . 917 , P . P . G . O . Middlesex , who officiated at the organ in the lodge and accompanied the ceremonies with a musical
programme . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes , the next business was the installation of the VV . M ., to which office Bro . Thomas Dutton , S . VV ., had been unanimously elected at the last regular meeting , and the W . M . requested Bro . E . George , P . M ., Sec , to take the chair and officiate during that ceremony . Bro . George then assumed the
cnair , and on presentation to him by Bro . Gray , P . M ., of Bro . Dutton , he duly installed Bro . Durton in the chair of K . S . for the ensuing 12 months . The following brethren were afterwards invested by the new Worshipful Master as his officers for the ensuing year ; Bros . J . H . Clare , S . VV . ; R . J . Campbell , J . VV . ; J . E . Walllord , P . M ., Treas . ; Edwin George , P . M ., Sec ; H .
Youngs , S . D . j John Insch , J . D . ; Thos . B . Pugh , I . G . ; John Sparrow , D . C ; R . VV . Huntley , Stwd . ; and Marsh , P . M ., Tyler . The W . M . then presented Bro . Poulton , I . P . M ., with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , vvhich had been voted by the lodge in commemoration of a very happy year that the brethren had spent under Bro . Poulton ' s Mastership . Bro . Poulton having acknowledged the gift ,
Bro . George delivered the addresses , and at tlie conclusion of the ceremony , on the motion of Bro . J . E . VVallford , P . M . and Treasurer , seconded by Bro . Poulton , I . P . M ., a vote of thanks was passed to Bro . George for performing the ceremony , and it vvas ordered to be entered on the minutes o £ the lodge . The lodge vvas thereafter closed , and a capital banquet
was laid before the brethren , and having partaken of the same to their entire sati .. faction , the customary toasts fjllowed . "The Queen and the Craft , " " The M . W . G . M ., " and "The Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Pa at , " having been disposed of , Bro . Poulton , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., "
who , he said , had performed his duties properly in every post he had undertaken in the lodge . The VVorshipful Master , in acknowledging the toast , said he really did not feel he was worthy of the kind remarks vvhich had been made ; but if in words he could not sufficiently thank the brethren , he trusted that his actions during his Mastership would warrant thc remarks that had been
made , and that when he left the chair of his forefathers the brethren would say thc remarks which had now been made were not misplaced . Thc VVorshipful Master next proposed " The I . P . M ., Bro . B . G . Poulton , " who , he assured the brethren , had done well for the lodge during his year of office . Unfortunately Bro . Poulton had not been able to attend as he
would have liked , but vvhat he had done had been done with skill and ability , nro . Poulton would like to have attended more than he had , but he had been quite unable to do so . Bro . Poulton , I . P . M ., in replying , said he could assure the brethren that he would have done more for the lod ^ e if he could . He had attended as often as he could to perform his duties , and he was sure the brethren would give him
credit for it . He hoped that during the W . M . ' s year of office he would have plenty of work to d 1 and plenty of initiates . He thanked the brethren for the very beautiful jewel they had presented him with that evening . He hoped to wear it as long as he lived , and to come into the lodge
to show it tor many , many years to come to the brethren of the lodge . The VV . M . proposed " The Past Masters , " of whom they had a goodly array in Bros . Poulton , VVallford , George , Gray , Tovell , and Fisher . The brethren all knew the good work those brethren had done for the lod ge . If any officer

was absent they would undertake his duties with the very greatest pleasure . Bro . Gray he thanked for his initiation , and Bro . Gray vvas his mother in Masonry . He hoped he should not disgrace his mother in the position he was in now ; he vvas very proud of his position , and he hoped the brethren would give him all the assistance in their power as they had before .
Bro . Gray , P . M ., replying , said it vvas rather an unfair thing for him always to have to respond to that toast ; but he vvas very glad to say he vvas proud to have introduced and to have initiated the present VV . M . He vvas sure the new VV . M . would do credit to his proposition . The longer the brethren knew him the more they would like him . He wished him a happy and prosperous year of office , with
plenty of initiates and lots of work to do . Bro . Tovell , P . M ., said he vvas very pleased that last year Bro . Poulton started a new system of providing an entertainment for the brethren and their visiting friends with regard to music . But he thought one thing more was required , an entertainment for the brethren , their wives , sisters , and sweethearts . He vvas a great lover of ladies .
He thought that those who worked with them and earned some of the money should have some of the enjoyment . He had attended one or two nights in the Crusaders Lodge and had seen them enjoy themselves . He vvas sure the ladies enjoyed it as much as the brethren , if not better . He hoped the Marquess of Ripon Lodge would have such evenings . The Worshipful Master next proposed " The Visitors . "
Bro . Larnor , VV . M . 157 , was the first to respond , and in the course of his observations , which vvere highly flattering to the workers in the lodge , congratulated the lodge upon one thing , that all the brethren seemed to be on good terms with each other . That was the principle on which lodges should work . He hoped to see the lodge grow into a big lodge , and that the brethren might be as happy as they seemed to be that evening .
Bro .-Usherwood and other brethren also replied . The Worshipful Master , in giving " The Treasurer and Secretary , " said in the Treasurer they had a treasure ; his whole heart and soul vvas in the lodge , li the lodge funds were low , the Treasurer did not mind ; he said "Enjoy yourselves , I will find funds , " and so he did . Passing from him to the Secretary—could they find a Secretary anywhere who could do everything . They saw how he did the installation—without a mistake . He had heard the
ceremony two or three times , but he never heard it done better . Bro . VVallford , P . M ., Treasurer , replied , and said he hoped to be re-elected for a few more years . He did not think he should be happy in any other position in the lodge than that of Treasurer . It was the duty of the 'Treasurer to find funds . They hid prospered in the lodge , but he
wished to call the brethren ' s attention to the fact that they had a chapter , and he hoped the brethren who vvere not yet Royal Arch Masons would join that chapter , and complete their Degrees . Bro . George , P . M ., Sec , also replied . He had been pleased with the remarks made by the W . M . and visitors as to his performance of the installation ceremony , and was
satisfied from that that he had done it properly , though before the remarks were made he was not satisfied . With regard to a ladies' night , there would be no difficulty about it , beyond this—that it meant that the brethren would havc to put their hands in their pockets , as the funds of the lodge were not such as to allow of the expenses coming from the
lodge . 'The toast of "The Officers" followed , and the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings . A splendid musical programme was performed under the direction of Bro . Egbert Roberts , P . P . G . Org . Middlesex , the executants who assisted him being Bros . VV . J . Harris , C . Wood , J . Sparrow , A . G . Caws , and T . B . Hugh .
Kingsland Lodge ( No . 1693 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Tuesday , the 7 th inst ., at the Cock Tavern , Highbury , under the presidency of Bro . W . T . H . Mayer , the W . M . There vvas a very large number of brethren present , and the following among other visitors : Bros . Walmsiey ; Gillard , 901 ; Davey , 193 ; VV . T . Massey , 160 , 192 S ; Hawkins , 65 ; Brennan ,
1341 ; Hickmon , 22 S ; Harris , 15 S 5 ; Chapman , 6 ig ; and Oakes , 172 S . After the minutes of the last meeting had been confirmed , Bros . Robson , Fromm , and Cook were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., and Bros . Harrington and Dimes vvere passed to the Second Degree . Bro . Martin Dderr , 1227 , was unanimously elected a joining member of the lodge . A
ballot was then taken for Messrs . F . A . Ackerman , VVm . Metcalfe , and L . Bauer , Who , after being unanimously elected , werejnitiated . The installation of the VV . M . elect , Bro . H . C . Turner , had to be postponed , in consequence of that brother being confined to his house by severe illness . The Auditors' report was received and adopted , and the lodge vvas closed . The following are the officers of the
lodge for the year : Bros . VV . T . H . Mayer , I . P . M . ; H . J . Hazel , S . VV . ; L . Simon , J . W . ; J . Cooper , P . M ., Treas . ; A . VV . Fenner , P . M ., Sec . ; W . Elliott , S . D . ; J . Potter , J . D . ; G . T . Spalding , I . G . ; J . H . Nye , D . C ; J . J . Garitt , A . D . C ; VV . Lee and G . R . Dix , Stewards ; VV . Windsor , Org . ; and Shepard , Tyler . Subsequently the brethren partook of an excellent
banquet , to which full justice vvas done . Bro . W . T . H . Mayer , thc I . P . M ., took the chair , and gave the toasts of "The Oueen and the Craft" and " 'Ihe M . VV . Grand Master , H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , " both of which were heartily received .
In proposing the toast of " The Deputy Grand Master , the Earl of Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " Bro . Mayer said that those brethren who had the privilege to attend Grand Lodge could not but be impressed with the way the work was done when the Grand Master was absent .
Bro . Casely , P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Worshipful Master , " asked the brethren to drink to his health , and expressed the hope that by the next meeting of the lodge Bro . Turner would be there . Bro . Mayer , in reply , said there was no person who reg'etted more than he did the illness which prevented Bro . i ' urner being among them that evening . That brother
had expressed his willingness to be there , but Providence had kept him on his sick bed . Otherwise he would have been among them . He ( Bro . Mayer ) thanked them on Bro . Turner ' s behalf for the way in vvhich they had responded to his health . Bro . Turner had always stood faithfully by him , and he had received most generous treatment from Bro . Turner ' s hands .

resignation of a brother vvas received , and accepted with regret .
M . ; the officers of the lodge , several lay members , and the following
visitors : Bros . A . Lawrence , 50 ; T . Usherwood , W . M . 11 S 5 ; W . T . Barnard , 1305 ; H . Massey , 160 , P . M . 619 and 192 S ; G . VV . Knight , P . M . 1507 ; D . J . Bryden , 1342 ; F .
