Lane , it was unanimously resolved that a suitable bookcase be provided for them , and that they be the nucleus of a lodge library , Bros . J . Chapman , J . Lane , and J . Taylor promising donations of books and pamphlets . The genial W . M ., ever ready to improve the shining hour , Masonically and otherwise , spoke of having spent some

profitable hours , when the work of the lodge permitted , by Bro . Chapman giving a short address containing a summary of the Masonic events of the month . At the request of the brethren , Bro . Chapman very readily consented to resume those little addresses . Other matters of purely lodge interest were then transacted , after which the lodge vvas closed .

KINGSTON - ON -THAMES . — Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 1638 ) . —On the 14 th inst , an emergency meeting was held at the Sun Hotel for the purpose of carrying to completion what could otherwise not have been done till June next . The W . M ., Bro . H . W . Humphreys , vvas supported by Bros . Geo . Moorman , P . G . P . Surrey , I . P . M . ; VV . Drewett , VV . M . 8 S 9 , 5 . W . ; Montague ,

J . W . ; and his assistant officers , and there was a much larger attendance of brethren , both members and visitors , than had been looked tor , the number being close on fifty . Having opened the lodge , the W . M . stated the reason of emergency , and courteously invited the LP . M . to assume the chair and raise Bros . Dorey and Bugler to the Sublime Degree ol M . M . The ceremony vvas conducted vvith the

utmost regularity and efficiency , the working all round being admirably performed . The W . M . then resumed his seat , and initiated Messrs . Massey and Harwin into the mysteries of the Order , and , by his eloquent and easy manner , a great impression vvas evidently made on the initiates . The lodge may congratulate itself on having such a proficient VV . M ., vvho is naturally gifted as to

pronunciation and expression . A provisional grant of £ 5 was made to each of the three Masonic Charities , at the next Festivals of which the Brownrigg Lodge vvill be represented by Stewards . After harmoniously working for two and a half hours , the brethren turned attention to the excellent supper which Mrs . Frayling had prepared , and passed the remainder of

the evening very pleasantly . The most noticeable feature was the singing of Bro . Reuben Bayley . He has a baritone voice of exceptional power and compass , and knows how to use it , and is a decided acquisition to the lodge . Bros . Rumbelow and F . J , Hunt , P . P . G . O ., vvho proved an able accompanist , also contributed to the harmony . The usual toasts were given , and compliments paid and returned .

Having opened the lodge , the W . M . stated the reason of emergency , and courteously invited the LP . M . to assume the chair and raise Bros . Dorey and Bugler to the Sublime Degree ol M . M . The ceremony vvas conducted vvith the

utmost regularity and efficiency , the working all round being admirably performed . The W . M . then resumed his seat , and initiated Messrs . Massey and Harwin into the mysteries of the Order , and , by his eloquent and easy manner , a great impression vvas evidently made on the initiates . The lodge may congratulate itself on having such a proficient VV . M ., vvho is naturally gifted as to

pronunciation and expression . A provisional grant of £ 5 was made to each of the three Masonic Charities , at the next Festivals of which the Brownrigg Lodge vvill be represented by Stewards . After harmoniously working for two and a half hours , the brethren turned attention to the excellent supper which Mrs . Frayling had prepared , and passed the remainder of

the evening very pleasantly . The most noticeable feature was the singing of Bro . Reuben Bayley . He has a baritone voice of exceptional power and compass , and knows how to use it , and is a decided acquisition to the lodge . Bros . Rumbelow and F . J , Hunt , P . P . G .
