WALLINGFORD . —St . Hilda Lodge ( No . 1 SS 7 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge—the anniversary of its consecration—which was celebrated for the fifth time on Tuesday , the iGth inst ., at the Alasonic Hall , was highly interesting and eminently successful—interesting , because the chief business of the evening was the always impressive ceremony of the installation of the VV . AI . for the ensuing year , and most successful because there was not only a

large muster of the brethren , but many of the number were Past Alasters , and there were several visitors from a distance . The Installing Officer vvas Bro . J . G . Shanks , K . M ., P . Prov . G . W . Devon , the senior Past Master of this lodge , who performed the ceremony in such a manner as to surround it with unusual impressiveness , the several charges being delivered with great effect . The new VV . M . is Bro . W . Frampton , a very zealous Mason , who was only initiated into the Order when this lodge was founded , five

years since . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to the Lamb Hotel , where an elegant banquet was served in firstrate style , after which the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were duly honoured , and were interspersed with some excellent songs and recitations , so that a very pleasant evening was spent by the brethren . In responding to the toast of "Thc Visitors , " Bro .

Forty , P . M ., congratulated the lodge upon having such an expert and zealous brother as Bro . Shanks on its roll of Past Alasters and Founders , and said that he had never heard the installation ceremony more ably performed , though bespoke with the experience of very many yeais . It is gratifying to know that the influence of this lodge has already wrought a vast deal of good in Wallingford , where it was much needed , and we wish it all success in the future .

LEICESTER . —Lodge of the Golden Fleece ( No . 2081 ) . —The first annual festival of this flourishing lodge was held in Freemasons' Hall on the 15 th inst ., when there vas a large gathering ot the Craft to welcome the installation of the popular W . AI . elect , Bro . E . P . Steeds . Amongst those present were Bros . S . S . Partridge , D . P . G . M . of Leicestershire and Rutland ; G . Toller , P . P . D .

D G . Notts ; J . Poland , P . P . G . J . W . Derbyshire ; J . Stevens , P . M . 720 , t 2 iG , 142 G , P . Z ., & c . ; Dr . Hargreaves , P . M . 1311 ; Capt . F . S . Graham-Moon , 1615 ; T . B . The spacious lodge room was quite filled , there being about 100 present , amongst whom were over 20 P . M . ' s at the Board of Installed Alasters . The ceremony of installation was admirably performed by Bro . E . Watson , P . P . G . J . D ., the retiring VV . AI . An excellent appeal was made

by Bro . 1 . Macaulay . Prov . G . Charity Steward , on behalf of the Royal Alasonic Institution for Boys , which resulted in £ 5 5 s . being voted and placed on his list . The W . AL duly appointed and invested his officers , after which , in very commendable terms , he presented to the retiring W . AI . a splendid jewel , which bore the following inscription : " Presented by the brethren of the Lodge of the Golden

Fleece , No . 20 S 1 , to VV . Bro . Edward Watson , P . AL , P . P . G . J . D ., as a token of regard , and in recognition of his services as first Alaster of the lodge , 1 SS 5-G . " The recipient , in a few well-chosen words , acknowledged the kindness of the lodge . At the conclusion of labour a most sumptuous banquet was served in the newly-fitted room connected with the

building . The appearance of the saloon was rendered exceedingly chaste by the efforts of Bro . Jacobs , who by means of drapery , elegant hangings , mirrors , & c , contrived to make it assume a very pleasing aspect . In addition to the former brethren various friends of the new VV . M . availed themselves of his hospitality , the menu being most complete , and the banquet excellently provided

and served by the experienced Bro . Tanzer . The guests were immensely gratified with a genuine "Old English Bill offe Fayre , " which , adapted by the genial host , was artistically produced by Bro . Lead , . S . James Stevens gratified the brethren by the delivery of one of his Alasonic recitations— "The Level and the Square . " The entire proceedings were exceptionally enjoyable , the greatest satisfaction being expressed at the complete realisation of the great success which it was predicted would attend the gathering .

DOMATIC LODGE ( No . 177 ) . —The weekly meeting of this lodge was held at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell New-road , on Tuesday , th * : ifoth inst . There were present Bros . Hore , W . D , Smith , P . M . ; Bannister , Gibson , White , W . S . Harvey , and Richardson . The lodge was opened iu due form , and the minutes of the last meeiing were read and conlirmed . Lodge was opened in Second

and lhird Degrees , and resumed in the Second Degree . Bro . White proved his proficiency in the Second Degree hy answering the questions ; he was entrusted , and retired . The lodge was resumed in the Third Degree , and the ceremony of raising being rehearsed , " ro . White was the candidate . The 2 nd Section of the Third Lecture was afterwards worked . The lodge was closed down to the First Degree . Hro . Rowlands was proposed as the Installed Master , Bro . j . D . Smith the Installing Mastcr , and Bro . W . H . Boys as D . C , because the installation ceremony was to he rehearsed on the next Tuesday . It was proposed that a vote of thanks , to

be recorded on the minutes , should be given to the W . M . for the excellent manner in winch he had worked the ceremony of raising for the Iirst time , he being a brother who had gained so much knowledge in so short a space of time . The W . M . had come only a very short time since from the Papuan Islands , where he had to go 400 miles to his lodge . He had obtained his knowledge in this lodge of instruction in " a few months . Bro . J . Hill , Preceptor , informed the lodge that the working in future must be " emulation , " and no one was to preside as W . Master unless he could work , with some measure of acccuracy , the ceremony to be worked on that evening . Tlie lodge was then closed .

Bros . Lindheld , Haes , Smith , Henry , and Arbib were unanimously elected members . A brother from the Ark Lodge , No . 10 ( I . C . ) , was redeved from the funds of the lodge , which was supplemented by the breihren present to the amount uf sixteen shillings . Votes of sympathy were passed to Bros . Stroud and Cruttenden on the occasion of * the illness of the sister of the former , and death of a relative of the latter . After ^ 5 5 s . had been voted to the R . M . B . I ., to be placed on Bro . Captain H . S . Andrews'list , the lodge was closed .

J . D . Langton , the Vice-President , in the chair . SulJicient money being in hand , three ballots of ten guineas each were drawn , and were won by Bros , Jansen , Ransom , and Royal . After eoniirming the minutes ut the previous meeting , the Second Degree was very ably worked : subsequent to which a most interesting histoiical account oE lhe two pillars at the porch way-entrance of Kins Solomon's Temple was given by W . Bro . J . T . Thorp , P . M . 523 , P . P . G . S . W ., who referred fo several extracts from the volume " of the Sacred Law , and very conclusively proved by those and other excerpts from thc eminent Jewish historian , Flavins losephus , that the pillar alluded to in

the First Degree was placed , not on the left hand of the person about to enter the building , but at the left part of the entrance itself , so that it stood on the right hand of any visitor to the majestic edifice . The lecturer proceeded \ o show most sa \ v ? i ' actorily that the other pillar , referred to in the Second Degree , was likewise in its turn placed exactly in thc opposite quarter to that whence it is usuallv supposed to have been situate . Z ., Treas . ; and Brown , Janitor . Afler propositions for joining companions and exaltation had been received , the chapter was closed in due form .

A banquet afterwards took place , under the presidency of M . E . Comp . Sir H . Williamson , Z . After the toasts of ' Her Majesty the Queen" and of "H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , K . G ., & c , First Grand Principal of England , " had been proposed b y the Chairman , and duly honoured , Comp . E . D . Davis , in proposing "The Acting Grand Superintendent of Durham , Comp . B . Levy , P . G . H ., and

Oliicers of P . G . Chapter , " paid a well-deserved compliment to Comp . Levy for the services he had rendered that day . Comp . Levy ' responded on behalf of the Oflicers of P . G . Chapter , and said he felt greatly obliged for the Haltering terms in which his health had been proposed , and the heartiness with which it had been received by the companions . CompLevy proposed the toast of " The Newlv-Installed

. Principals , " and alluded to the length of time that the M . E . Z . had been a member of the chapter . He expressed a hope that the companions might soon have the pleasure of hearing that their hi g hly esteemed First Principal had been appointed Grand Superintendent of the Province of Durham , which would , he felt quite confident , universal satisfaction . most efficient 1 hird Principal , and shown that he had the interests of the chapter at heart . With regard to Comp . J . R . Pattison , J ., who was at the present time serving a second year as VV . re-, , sponding , said that some men were born to greatness , others had it thrust upon them . The honour that had been conferred upon him that day was not a reward for any great services he had rendered to Royal Arch Masonry ; but hc felt was owing entirely to the kindly feeling of the companions towards him . However , having accepted the position , he was determined to fulfil the duties appertaining

WALLINGFORD . —St . Hilda Lodge ( No . 1 SS 7 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge—the anniversary of its consecration—which was celebrated for the fifth time on Tuesday , the iGth inst ., at the Alasonic Hall , was highly interesting and eminently successful—interesting , because the chief business of the evening was the always impressive ceremony of the installation of the VV . AI . for the ensuing year , and most successful because there was not only a

large muster of the brethren , but many of the number were Past Alasters , and there were several visitors from a distance . The Installing Officer vvas Bro . J . G . Shanks , K . M ., P . Prov . G . W . Devon , the senior Past Master of this lodge , who performed the ceremony in such a manner as to surround it with unusual impressiveness , the several charges being delivered with great effect . The new VV . M . is Bro . W . Frampton , a very zealous Mason , who was only initiated into the Order when this lodge was founded , five

years since . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to the Lamb Hotel , where an elegant banquet was served in firstrate style , after which the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were duly honoured , and were interspersed with some excellent songs and recitations , so that a very pleasant evening was spent by the brethren . In responding to the toast of "Thc Visitors , " Bro .

Forty , P . M ., congratulated the lodge upon having such an expert and zealous brother as Bro . Shanks on its roll of Past Alasters and Founders , and said that he had never heard the installation ceremony more ably performed , though bespoke with the experience of very many yeais . It is gratifying to know that the influence of this lodge has already wrought a vast deal of good in Wallingford , where it was much needed , and we wish it all success in the future .

by Bro . 1 . Macaulay . Prov . G . Charity Steward , on behalf of the Royal Alasonic Institution for Boys , which resulted in £ 5 5 s . being voted and placed on his list . The W . AL duly appointed and invested his officers , after which , in very commendable terms , he presented to the retiring W . AI . a splendid jewel , which bore the following inscription : " Presented by the brethren of the Lodge of the Golden

Fleece , No . 20 S 1 , to VV . Bro . Edward Watson , P . AL , P . P . G . J . D ., as a token of regard , and in recognition of his services as first Alaster of the lodge , 1 SS 5-G . " The recipient , in a few well-chosen words , acknowledged the kindness of the lodge . At the conclusion of labour a most sumptuous banquet was served in the newly-fitted room connected with the

building . The appearance of the saloon was rendered exceedingly chaste by the efforts of Bro . Jacobs , who by means of drapery , elegant hangings , mirrors , & c , contrived to make it assume a very pleasing aspect . In addition to the former brethren various friends of the new VV . M . availed themselves of his hospitality , the menu being most complete , and the banquet excellently provided

and lhird Degrees , and resumed in the Second Degree . Bro . White proved his proficiency in the Second Degree hy answering the questions ; he was entrusted , and retired . The lodge was resumed in the Third Degree , and the ceremony of raising being rehearsed , " ro . White was the candidate . The 2 nd Section of the Third Lecture was afterwards worked . The lodge was closed down to the First Degree . Hro . Rowlands was proposed as the Installed Master , Bro . j . D . Smith the Installing Mastcr , and Bro . W . H . Boys as D . C , because the installation ceremony was to he rehearsed on the next Tuesday . It was proposed that a vote of thanks , to

be recorded on the minutes , should be given to the W . M . for the excellent manner in winch he had worked the ceremony of raising for the Iirst time , he being a brother who had gained so much knowledge in so short a space of time . The W . M . had come only a very short time since from the Papuan Islands , where he had to go 400 miles to his lodge . He had obtained his knowledge in this lodge of instruction in " a few months . Bro . J . Hill , Preceptor , informed the lodge that the working in future must be " emulation , " and no one was to preside as W . Master unless he could work , with some measure of acccuracy , the ceremony to be worked on that evening . Tlie lodge was then closed .

W ., who referred fo several extracts from the volume " of the Sacred Law , and very conclusively proved by those and other excerpts from thc eminent Jewish historian , Flavins losephus , that the pillar alluded to in

the First Degree was placed , not on the left hand of the person about to enter the building , but at the left part of the entrance itself , so that it stood on the right hand of any visitor to the majestic edifice . He expressed a hope that the companions might soon have the pleasure of hearing that their hi g hly esteemed First Principal had been appointed Grand Superintendent of the Province of Durham , which would , he felt quite confident , universal satisfaction . most efficient 1 hird Principal , and shown that he had the interests of the chapter at heart . With regard to Comp . J . R . Pattison , J ., who was at the present time serving a second year as VV . M . of the Palatine Lodge , No . 97—thc mother lodge of their chapter . The satisfaction he had given the members of the lodgeaugured well for his success in the chapter . The M . E . re-, , sponding , said that some men were born to greatness , others had it thrust upon them . The honour that had been conferred upon him that day was not a reward for any great services he had rendered to Royal Arch Masonry ; but hc felt was owing entirely to the kindly feeling of the companions towards him . However , having accepted the position , he was determined to fulfil the duties appertaining
