Bro . Nahum Capon , LL . D ., the American author and publisher , whose death has recently been announced , was a prominent member of our Society for some Go years . The Prince of Wales , accompanied by his son Prince George , left London for Cannes on Saturday last , Prince George continuing his journey to Malta , where he

will join his ship , the Thunderer . Bro . VV . Ascough was installed W . M . for the year of the Denison Lodge , No . 124 S , Scarborough , at the Masonic Hall , Scarborough , on VVednesday , the ioth inst ., and afterwards presided at the usual banquet at the Grand Hotel . Bros . Earl Granville , Admiral Lord Alcester ,

and Sir Algernon Borthwick were among the principal guests at the farewell banquet given at the Hotel Metropole , on Saturday evening last , to the Spanish Ambassador in London . There was a numerous gathering of members and visitors present in the Masonic Hall , Cardiff , on the 4 th inst ., when Bro . VV . Dobbs was installed VV . M . of the

installation meeting at the Town Hall , Langoort , on Thursday , the 1 ith inst ., when Bro . VV . E . Bennett , S . W ., and VV . M . elect , was installed in the chair of the lodge by Bro . John Hughes , P . Prov . G . S . B ., the retiring VV . M . The officers for the year having been appointed and invested , and the

The Essex Chapter , No . 276 , Chelmsford , held its regular convocation on Monday , the Sth inst ., when , in the course of the proceedings , Comp . A . C . Veley , J . P . Lewin , and A . Meead were severally elected Z ., H ., and J , for the ensuing year ; Comp . A . Durrant , Prov . G . Treas ., being elected Treasurer of the chapter . The banquet , which followed , took place at the VVhite Hart Hotel .

Bro . W . C . Peace , P . M . and Treasurer of the Bute Lodge , No . 9 G 0 , Cardiff , was recently presented with a Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of his valuable services to the lodge in the capacity of Treasurer . The presentation was made in open lodge at its last regular meeting by Bro . J . H . Hussey , W . M ., who spoke in high terms of Bro . Peace's ability and zeal .

Bro . John B . Harrison was installed W . M . of the Panmure Lodge , No . 723 , Aldershot , at the Masonic Hall , Imperial Hotel , on Tuesday , the gth inst ., Bro . R . Eve , P . M ., P . P . G . S . W . Hants and Isle of Wight , being the Installing Master . The officers for the year were afterwards appointed and invested , and the brethren subsequently partook of a well-served banquet .

A very numerous meeting of Lodge No . 9 , Dunblane , was held in the Stirling Arms Hotel , on Monday , the Sth inst . Bro . Colonel Stirling , R . W . M ., presided , and was strongly supported b y the officers and members . In the course of the proceedings the Installed Masters ' Degree was conferred on Bros . Colonel Drummond Moray , Prov . G . Alaster designate of Perthshire West ; A . B . Dick Cleland , and James Cadien .

Bro . W . B . Fergusson , W . M . elect of the Palatine Lodge , No . 97 , Sunderland , having died shortly after his election , it became necessary to elect a W . M . in his stead , and the choice of the members having fallen upon Bro . Joseph R . Pattison , W . AL , that brother was reinstalled VV . M . for the current year at the Masonic Hall , Park-terrace , Sunderland , on the nth inst ., in the presence of a numerous gathering of members and visitors .

The plans submitted in competition for the erection of the proposed Masonic Hall at Folkestone have been exhibited , by permission of the Mayor and Corporation of the town , in the Town Hal ) , and have been viewed by the public with general satisfaction . The sets of plans are three in number , marked respectively , A ., B ., and C , and the general opinion appears to have been in favour of

selecting the ' B . " set . The annual meeting of the High Peak Lodge , No . 1952 , Chapel-en-lc-Frith , took place in the Town Hall , on Monday , the 8 th inst ., there being a large muster of brethren , both members and visitors , in honour of the occasion . Bro . Joseph Heathcott , S . VV ., was the VV . M . elect , and he was very ably installed in office by the retiring

Master , Bro . ] . B . Boycott . The banquet was in all respects most creditable to the purveyor in charge , Bro . J . Taylor , of the Royal Oak Hotel . The installation meeting of the Square and Compass Lodge , No . 1336 , Wrexham , took place in the Masonic Hall , Corn Exchange , on Tuesday , the 2 nd inst .,

when Bro . R . VV . Evans was installed W . M . for the ensuing year , and afterwards appointed and invested his officers . The retiring VV . M ., Bro . Edisbury , in the course of the proceedings , was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel , and the lodge and its visitors subsequently dined together at the Wynnstay Hotel , under the presidency of their new thief .

By the Queen ' s command , the Prince of Wales held a Levee at St . James's Palace on behalf of her Majesty , on Monday the 15 th instant . Bro . Wesley Stephens was installed W . M . of the . Molesworth Lodge , No . 1954 , Plymouth , on Monday , the ist inst ., the customary banquet being served by Bro . Lee , of the Commercial Hotel .

The result of the Masonic ball held in Liverpool in January , in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution , was announced at a recent meeting of the Ball Committee as £ 146 . Bro . Alderman Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., M . P ., presided at a meeting held at the Memorial Hall , Farringdon-street . on Thursday , the iSth inst ., when a lecture on " General Gordon " was delivered by Mr . A . E . Hake .

It is understood that Bro . S . G . Homfray will be installed Prov . G . Mark Master of Monmouthshire some time during the ensuing month . The new Dep . Prov . G . Mark Master will beBro . Major A . T . Perkins , P . P . G . S . VV . Monmouthshire .

At a numerously attended meeting held at the Annandale Arms Hotel , Moffat , during the early days of the current week , it was unanimously resolved to petition the Grand Lodae of Scotland for a charter to hold a lodge of Freemasons in Moffat .

The Emperor William of Germany and the Empress gave their second grand ball this season on Thursday , the iSth inst ., Bro . the Crown Prince and Princess , and Bro . Sir E . B . and Lady Ermyntrude Malet being among the principal guests . Bro . the Duke and Duchess of Connaught visited the St . James ' s Theatre on Friday , the 19 th inst .,

and the same evening the Prince and Princess of Wales , Princess Louise , and Prince George , dined with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh , at Clarence House . The Princess of Wales , who was prevented by illness from being present at the opening of the Mersey Tunnel , was , on Friday , the 19 th inst ., presented by a deputation from the Company with a handsome diamond bracelet , value £ 700 , in commemoration of the event .

Allcroft took the chair at a social meeting for young men on Thursday , at thc West Branch of the Young Men ' s Christian Association , Burlington Hall , Savile-roiv , at which addresses were given by the Rev . successor . Bro . Stephen Knig ht was installed W . M . of the Porchester Mark Lodge , No . 27 , Reading , on Friday , the 12 th inst ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . Charles Stephens , D . P . G . Mark Master Berks and Oxon . The usual banquet was held at the Queen ' s Hotel , under the presidency of Bro . Knight .

Bro . Dr . E . M . Lott , Grand Organist , gave a Matinee Musicale at the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , at Wood Green , on Saturday last . He was assisted hy Miss Nellie Hamilton on the pianoforte , and vocalists . The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by the boys and visitors present , and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Dr . Lott .

There was a large attendance of brethren at the annual meeting of the Perseverance Lodge , No . 1643 , Hcbburn , on Wednesday , thc ioth inst ., when Bro . W . Atkinson , S . W ., and VV . M . elect , was formally installed in the chair of K . S ., and afterwards appointed his officers for the year . Bro . James McCulloch , P . M ., P . P . G . J . W ., acted as the Installing Master .

The Prince of Wales , when he visits Yorkshire next month , for the purpose of attending the Grand National Steeple Chase at Malton , will be the guest of Bro . Christopher Sykes , M . P ., at Stedmere Hall , which has been placed at his disposal , to enable him to receive his Royal Highness , by his brother , Sir Tatton Sykes , who is travelling in India .

The result of the Masonic ball held in Liverpool in January , in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution , was announced at a recent meeting of the Ball Committee as £ 146 . Bro .
