assuredly be looked upon by " A Certain Contributor " to our periodical as abettors and promoters of mystification , pretension , and misrepresentation , and of false and groundless theories . The Master of Arts refers to a contribution headed " Pseudo-RevivalA . D . 1717 " page 3 G 8 ofthe present

the '' Building News , ' * for Dec . 9 th of this present year , page 428 , in the prize essay , compiled by Mr . J . Slater , B . A ., for the Architectural Association , we read as follows : — "for there can be no doubt that it is to the wide-spreading resources of the Church of Rome we owe some—nay , most—of the noblest specimens of Mediawal architecture , which , without her aid ,, would never have been erected .
