, Pear not to touch the best , The truth shall be thy warrant ; Go , since I needs must dye , And give them all the lye . Go , tell the court it gloives ,

And shines like painted wood ; Go , tell the church it shoives What's good , and does no good . If court and church replye , Give court and church the lye . Tell potentates they live

That rule affairs of state , Their purpose is ambition , Their practice onl y hate . And if they do replye , Then giA'e them all the lye . Tell those that brave it moste ,

They begge the more by spending ; Who in their greatest coste , Seek nothing but commeiidinge . And if they make replye , Spare not to give the lye . Tell zeal it lacks devotion
