M . presiding , Bros . A . Nicholson and A . G . Horn fulfilling the duties of croupiers . Sup . porting the W . M . wero Bros , the Rev . Geonre Campbell , Chaplain of the Lodse , W . M ., Z . H . Heys 307 P . M ., J . Millar P . M . 87 , J . Horner

512 , L . McKellan D . M . 512 . The dinner was well attended , both by members of the Lodge and by Visiting Brethren , upwards of sixty gentlemen sitting down . Amongst the brethren present from other Lodges were Bros . Burns Thompson 183 , J . McGregor 117 , W . Patterson 153 , J . Anderson 507 , J . Smith 38 , J . C . Shand 33 , J . Nelson 195 , Smellio 307 , and others . The Lodge having been opened by Bro

Scobie W . M ., with Bro . Fletcher as S . W . and Bro . McEwen as J . W ., and a blessing having been asked by tho Chaplain , the brethren partook of an excellent repast , provided by Bro . D . M . McKellan which was heartily enjoyed by all present . After disposing of tho usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . R . Scobio W . M . gave the prosperity of the Thorntree , and in doing so presented J . Horner P . M .,

founder of the Thorntree , with a P . M . jewel as a mark of the respect felt for him by the members of 512 , to which Bro . Horner , iu a few ohosen sentences , replied . The Rev . G . Campbell , Chaplain of 512 , in a short , eloqnent reply to the toast of his health , spoke of the advance Masonry had made within tho last few years , and on the

Christian and charitable feelings that bind the brethren one to another . A number of other toasts were given dnring the evening by Bro . A . Nicholson and Bro . A . Horn . Altogether a very happy evening was spent under the shadow of the Thorntree , till the time came to close the Lodge , which was done in duo form .

Yarborough Chapter , No . 554 . —A Convocation of this Chapter was held on Thursday , the 8 th inst ., at the Green Dragon Hotel , Stepney . Comps . S . T . Finch M . E . Z ., W . G . Clarke J ., Rev . D . Shaboe P . Z . S . E ., J . J . Berry S . N ., and several Companions . The Chapter was opened , and the minutes were confirmed . Ballots were taken for Bros . H . S . Harvey No . 749 , R . L . Davies 511 , C . P . Mills ,

Temperance in tho East Lodge , and C . F . Robinson , Capper Lodge , which being unanimous they were duly exalted into Royal Arch Masonry in a perfect and impressive manner , that fully impressed the candidates . A sum of threo guineas was voted to a distressed Companion who was lying dangerously ill . The Chapter was then closed ,

and the Companions sat down to a capital banquet , provided by Comp Walters the worthy host . The M . E . Z . gave the nsual loyal and R . A . toasts . Comps . Harvey and Davies , in appropriate speeches , returned thanks for the newly exalted Companions . Bro . S . Rosenthal P . Z . was present as a visitor , and complimented the M . E . Z . and officers who had so admirably performed the ritual .

Temple Lodge , No , 558 . —The regular monthly meeting of this Lodge was held at the Town Hall , Folkestone , on Tuesday , 7 th March . Present—Bro . R . B . Jenner W . M ., Bros . Stallwood S . Jas . S . Eastes . The Lodge was opened punctually at 3 o ' clock by Bro . J . Konnett ( in consequence of the indisposition of the W . M . ) , and he was assisted by Bros . S . Stallwood aud R . H . Pledge as Wardens . The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , tho first bnsiness was the election of a brother to serve on the Charity Committee for the Province of Kent , Bro . S . Penfold P . M . being elected to

fill that office . The Secretary then read a statement of accounts , showing a balance of upwards of £ 15 . The brethren then proceeded to ballot for Mr . S . Joseph , and it being unanimous he was initiated into the ancient mysteries of the Craft , which ceremony was very ably performed by Bro . Kennett . Bro . Adamson then took the chair , and assisted by Bro . Earnshaw and Kennett as Wardens

proceeded to instal the W . M . elect , Bro . S . S . Stallwood , into tho chair of K . S ., which was again most admirably performed , in Bro . Adamson ' s well known fluent style . Previous to the installation the brethren rose to salute the D . P . G . M ., who kindly honoured the Lodge with his presence on this occasion . The W . M . then invested his officers for the year , viz . —C . Woollett S . W ., C . Fagg J . W , Dr . J . B . Gill S . D ., D .

Jones J . D ., R . Taylor I . G ., H . Stock P . M . Sec , Jas . Kennett P . M . Treas . A very handsome Master ' s chair was presented to the Lodge by Bro . Kennett . The Master , on behalf of the Lodge , accepted the same , with a few appropriate remarks , and the chair was much admired and appreciated by every one present . The brethren then

adjourned to the West Cliffe Hotel , where a very recherche banquet was prepared by Mr . Wedderburn , and the brethren expressed much satisfaction at the manner in which the repast was served . The gavel was wielded by the W . M . in such an able way that the usual Masonic toasts were quickly disposed of , until that of the V . W . the

D . P . G . M ., Bro . Eastes , waa given aud enthusiastically received . Bro , Eastes , in response , spoke of the progress of Freemasonry during the nast few years , and of tho many influences at work to cause it . One of 'he ereat duties of a Freemason was charity , and the Charities of the Institution had risen in proportion to the increase of its members . The brethren must not allow it to be used merely as an axiom , bnt

: t must become the dutv of every brother to support and encourage those charitable institutions as far as lav in his power . The W . M . then gave " the Installing Master . " Bro . G . Adamson briefly responded , and said , as they knew , it always afforded him the liveliest pleasure to come over and assist the Temple Lodge in any way . " The Mayor , " Bro . Sherwood P . M ., was then given by

Bro . Poole P . P . G . S . W ., who dwelt upon the popularity and esteem in which tho chief magistrate washeldbyall classes of the community . The Mayor , in responding , made many trite and appropriate remarks upon Freemasonry , and said that dnring the fourteen years he was in the Council Chamber a gentleman , who was a Freemason , had

occupied the civic chair about eight times . Bro . Gosling : P . P . G . P . replied for the " Prov . G . Officers . " After " the Visitors , " " the Secretary and Treasurer" and "the Junior Officers , " the Tyler's toast bronght the evening ' s proceedings to a close . Several songs added to the pleasure .

Dramatic Lodge , No . 571 . —This Lodge held a meeting at 3 p . m . on Wednesday , the 15 th inst ., at 213 Buchanan-street , Glas . eow . Bros . W . J . E . Dodson R . W . M ., J . Innes D . M . 408 as S . W ., Wm . Sevoright J . W ., Wm . Barlow Treas ., D . Campbell Sec , Meikle S . D ., J . Hardio Tyler . On the dais were Bros . Wilson 27 . Wheeler 73 , Balfour 332 , Winton 333 , and T . M . Campbell 408 . There were two candidates , Messrs . C . H . Gill and W . Muir , who were initiated in a very careful manner by the R . W . M ., Bro . Dodson .

United Lodge , No . 697 . —At the monthly meeting ' of this Lodge , held at the George Hotel , Colchester , on the 10 th inst ., Bro . A . R . Clench W . M . was re-elected to occupy the chair of K . S . for tho ensuing 12 months . This Lodsre has flourished considerably during the past year , under the presidency of Bro . Clench , who has proved an active and popular master , but his reign will ever be

distinguished by a resolution unanimously passed at a recent meeting , that the Lodge should subscribe twenty guineas per annum till it becomes a Vice President of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Some very earnest but timid brethren were opposed to the Lodge being pledged to provide such a sum beyond the current year , for fear that it wonld not be in a position to meet the charges , but

Bro . Clench was equal to this emergency , and announced that he proposed to have a guarantee , which had already been signed by many of the members , that if in any year the funds of the Lodge were unequal to the sum named tho guarantors would make up the deficiency or provide tho whole if necessary . This met with cordial support , and reflects honour upon the Lodge .

Dalhousie Lodge , No . 860 . —The regular meeting of this Lodge was held on 9 th March , at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street . Present—Bros . W . H . Wallington W . M ., Knox S . W ., Worsley acting J . W ., Smith acting S . D ., Dickins J . D ., Dodson I . G . Lodge opened , and minutes read and confirmed . Bros . Kitchingman , Pinn , Gabriel and Barker were raised to the 3 rd degree . Bros . Cole and Turner passed

to the 2 nd degree , and Mr . Charles Silcock , having been duly ballotted for and elected was initiated into the Order . The working wasdone by the W . M . in his nsual perfect and impressive manner , and he was well aided by the officers of the evening . The bye-laws of the Lodge were then read by the Secretary . There was a large muster of P . M . ' a and brethren present , it being the night for election of the W . M .

This resulted in tho re-election' of Bro . D llwood I . P . M . to the chair , Bro . Wallington W . M . to be Treasurer , and Gilchrist Tyler . An audit committee was then selected , consisting of Bros . Smith , Skinner , and Burleton , the meeting to take place at Anderton ' s Hotel , on Friday , 24 th March , at 5 o ' clock . The Lodge was then closed and the brethren , after partaking of slight refreshment , separated .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction . —The brethren met on 14 th inst ., at Bro . A lien ' s ,, Royal Edward , Triangle , Hackney . Present—Bros . Worsley W . M ., Smith S . W ., Cambridge J . W ., Appleby S . D ., Folliott J . D ., Johnson I . G ., also Bros . Wallington , Barker , Brown , Fieldwick . Bro . Barker having answered the usual questions the W . M . very ably passed him to the 2 nd degree . Lodge opened

and closed iu 3 rd degree , and tho 1 st section of the lecture was worked . Lodge closed to 1 st degree , and the 2 nd and 3 rd sections were worked by Bro . Fieldwick , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Smith was unanimously elected to be W . M . on Tuesday next , and appointed the officers in rotation . The Lodge was then closed in duo form . The ceremony of installation will be rehearsed on Tuesday next , by Bro , Wallington , tho Preceptor .

Montefiore Lodge No . 1017 . —The usnal meeting of the above was held on Wednesday , the 15 th inst ., at the Regent Masonic Hall , Air-street , Regent-street . Bro . J . Grunebanm I . P . M . occupied the chair in the absence of the W . M . A . Eskell P . M . as S . W ., Gnlliford J . W ., Albu S . D ., L . Jacobs Treas ., E . P . Albert P . M . M ., Bro . Dodson .

United Lodge , No . 697 . —At the monthly meeting ' of this Lodge , held at the George Hotel , Colchester , on the 10 th inst ., Bro . A . R . Clench W . M . was re-elected to occupy the chair of K . S . for tho ensuing 12 months . This Lodsre has flourished considerably during the past year , under the presidency of Bro . Clench , who has proved an active and popular master , but his reign will ever be

distinguished by a resolution unanimously passed at a recent meeting , that the Lodge should subscribe twenty guineas per annum till it becomes a Vice President of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Some very earnest but timid brethren were opposed to the Lodge being pledged to provide such a sum beyond the current year , for fear that it wonld not be in a position to meet the charges , but

Bro . Clench was equal to this emergency , and announced that he proposed to have a guarantee , which had already been signed by many of the members , that if in any year the funds of the Lodge were unequal to the sum named tho guarantors would make up the deficiency or provide tho whole if necessary . This met with cordial support , and reflects honour upon the Lodge .

Dalhousie Lodge , No . 860 . —The regular meeting of this Lodge was held on 9 th March , at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street . Present—Bros . W . H . Wallington W . M ., Knox S . W ., Worsley acting J . W ., Smith acting S . D ., Dickins J . D ., Dodson I . G . Lodge opened , and minutes read and confirmed . Bros . Kitchingman , Pinn , Gabriel and Barker were raised to the 3 rd degree . Bros . Cole and Turner passed

to the 2 nd degree , and Mr . Charles Silcock , having been duly ballotted for and elected was initiated into the Order . The working wasdone by the W . M . in his nsual perfect and impressive manner , and he was well aided by the officers of the evening . The bye-laws of the Lodge were then read by the Secretary . There was a large muster of P . M . ' a and brethren present , it being the night for election of the W . M .

This resulted in tho re-election' of Bro . D llwood I . P . M . to the chair , Bro . Wallington W . M . to be Treasurer , and Gilchrist Tyler . An audit committee was then selected , consisting of Bros . Smith , Skinner , and Burleton , the meeting to take place at Anderton ' s Hotel , on Friday , 24 th March , at 5 o ' clock . The Lodge was then closed and the brethren , after partaking of slight refreshment , separated .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction . —The brethren met on 14 th inst ., at Bro . A lien ' s ,, Royal Edward , Triangle , Hackney . Present—Bros . Worsley W . M ., Smith S . W ., Cambridge J . W ., Appleby S . D ., Folliott J . D ., Johnson I . G ., also Bros . Wallington , Barker , Brown , Fieldwick . Bro . Barker having answered the usual questions the W . M . very ably passed him to the 2 nd degree . Lodge opened

and closed iu 3 rd degree , and tho 1 st section of the lecture was worked . Lodge closed to 1 st degree , and the 2 nd and 3 rd sections were worked by Bro . Fieldwick , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Smith was unanimously elected to be W . M . on Tuesday next , and appointed the officers in rotation . The Lodge was then closed in duo form . The ceremony of installation will be rehearsed on Tuesday next , by Bro , Wallington , tho Preceptor .

Montefiore Lodge No . 1017 . —The usnal meeting of the above was held on Wednesday , the 15 th inst ., at the Regent Masonic Hall , Air-street , Regent-street . Bro . J . Grunebanm I . P .
