the Bye-laws of the Lodge . Bro . Alfred Withers also read a very interesting paper , which had been quoted by tho FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE from its ably-condnoted contemporary , tho Keijxtone , of Philadelphia , entitled " The Sounding of the Gavel . " Bro . Alfred Withers , who bad committed the paper to memory , was highly complimented by his brother Past Masters and tbe members . An
expression of feeling was also elicited that it would more generally tend to advance the best interests of Freemasonry if it were the custom , when opportunity served , for papers of this description on any matters of interest to the Craft to be brought under notice . In tho course of the evening letters were read in reply to the votes of condolence sent to Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen and ner Royal Highness the Duchess of Albany on the death of Prinon
Leopold , and these were ordered to be recorded on the minutes of the Lodge . Appeals for assistance from two brethren , late members of the Lodge , were considered and attended to , and shortly afterwards , all work being completed , Lodge was closed . A banquet , served in the excellent manner that characterises the Albion , followed . The W . M . presided , and a most agreeable evening was spent , tho several toasts being interspersed with capital songs . THE eleventh installation of this Lodge was hold on Wednesday , 15 th inst ., at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , and was , as usual , most numerously attended , both by members and visitors . Ho trusted , however , that when his term of Office had expired , he shonld have deserved tho approval of tho members . He next proposed tho health of tho I . P . M ., Bro . Clark . They conld bnt have been gratified at
having had so worthy a brother to preside over them as Bro . Clark had proved himself . They had had ample opportunity's of judging of his ability and ho had acquitted himself insuchamanneras called for tho highest praise . That evening ho had worked two degees , and after that hail installed his successor , and in such a way as clearly showed him to be a Master of no mean ability . His working reflected the
greatest credit on him . Bro . Clark expressed his thanks . In Lodge ho had really been at a loss to find words with which to thank them for the handsome jewel they had pr 'seated him , with , but ho had since had time for reflection , and tendered his most hearty thanks , both for the handsome gift and For tho uniform kindness ho had mot with from tho members . Seward jun . was placed in tho chair of K . S . The proceedings commenced at two p . m ., when the retiring W . M ., Bro . Samuel Dyer , opened Lodge , and there bein ? a considerable nmonnt of business to transact , at
once proceeded with the work . Bro . Eden , who had been initiated at the previous meeting of tho Lodge , was now advanced to tbe degree of Fellow Craft , and Messrs . Samuel C . Qninion and Henry A . Sawyer wee , after being duly ballovted for , admitted to tho mysteries of tho Ancient Craft . The next business on the summons was tho
installation of Bro . Seward jun ., which was carried out in a most impressive manner by Bro . Ku-ner P . M . to tho great satisfaction of the brethren , with whom Bro . Seward is very popular . George ' s Chapel , Windsor , to attend , and it is needless to say , that these gentlemen delighted tho brethren by tho way in which they rendered the songs and gloes , moro especially " The Thorn " and "Norah , Sweet Novak" which we to deservedly oucored .
Wo cannot close this brief notico without congratulating the Lodge upon tho quarters in which it soeni 3 now to be permanently settled , and a word of praise is also duo to tho host , Bro .
