THE Queen left Windsor Casfcle for Balmoral on Friday evening , reaching her Highland residence in the course of the following afternoon . The Princess Beatrice , Prince Leopold , and Princes Albert Yictor and George of Wales are with her . The Duchess of Edinburgh accompanied Her Majesty as far as the Great Western Kailway
Station , and then left for Buckingham Palace , where she stayed some days . The Princess of Wales will shortly quit Athens , where she has been visiting her brother , King George , and is expected back in London about the 2 nd prox . The Duke of Edinburgh , during the brief stay of
our fleet oft the Suez Canal , paid a flying visit to the Khedive , by whom he was very cordially received . The Prince of Wales arrived at Portsmouth on Tuesday evening , on a visit to Sir Hastings Doyle , commanding the Southern District . A number of guests had been invited
to meet His Eoyal Highness , among whom were Captain the Hon . Carr Glyn , C . B ., R . N ., Major Russell , Colonel Lord W . Seymour , Commander Lord C . Beresf ord , and the Dnke of Montrose . The visit was as strictly private as pos- ' sible , so that there were no decorations , crowds or addresses .
On Wednesday morning , His Royal Highness , wearing the uniform of a Captain of the Royal Naval Reserve , accompanied by his host , Major Russell , and Captain Glyn , drove to the Dockyard , where the Admiral Commander-in-Chief , the Vice-Admiral in command of the Channel Squadron ,
and the Rear-Admiral Superintendent of the Dockyard were in waiting to receive him . A guard of honour of Marines and Marine Artillery were drawn up , and received him with a Royal salute . The Prince shortly after
embarked on Admiral Elliot ' s barge , for the purpose of inspecting the vessels of the Channel Squadron . He first went on board the monster turret ship the Thunderer , over which he was conducted by Captain Wilson and Commander Lord C . Beresford . The crew were exercised at turret and torpedo drill , and the practice under the new
system m the fore turret , containing two 38-ton guns , proved a special attraction for the Prince , who highly praised the men for their smartness . He then went on board the Li ghtning , torpedo vessel , which can steam at the rate of over 18 ^ knots an hour . He then landed again
at the Dockyard and inspected the Inflexible , now in course of building , only one-fourth of her yet remaining to be completed . This monster turret ship is intended to carry four 80-ton guns . The Dreadnought was then visited , ancl he then returned ancl went on board Vice-Admiral
