Hemming Lodge , No . 1512 , Hampton . — The third Thursday in October has passed , but not without scoring , perhaps , the most successful meeting we have had tho pleasure to record of this prosperous young Lodge . Established exactly three years ago , with a prospective limit of 40 members , this number has been enrolled , and tho Lodge now includes many who are proficient in the

Ritual of the Craft , consequently , tho Lodgo may now consider itself second to none in the Province for its efficient rendering of tho various ceremonies of our Order . On Thursday week , tho 18 th inst ., tho brethren wero summoned for 3 o ' clock , and by that time a considerable number had arrived . Tho Worshipful Master , Bro . John Hurst , proceeded to opon his Lodgo , Bros . J . Hammond S . W ., S . Hill J . W .,

E . Hopwood I . P . M . and Treasurer , Wm . Hammond Secretary , C . W . Fox S . D ., Jessett J . D ., and Ockenden I . G . Tho minutes of tho last regular meeting , and of an emergency hold on tho 19 th of April , were read and confirmed . Tho report of tho Audit Committee was also read , and unanimously adopted , thero remaining a good balance in favour of tho Lodge funds after tho payment of all claims . A

ballot was taken , and resulted unanimously in favour of Messrs . Henry John Jones and Joseph Colo . The latter gentleman was not present , but a satisfactory reason was offered , accounting for his absence . The W . M . at once proceeded with the ceremony , and admitted Mr . Jones to Masonio light . Bros . G . Forward and A . D . Tozer having been examined , were entrusted and retired . The Lodge

being opened ou tho square , tho two candidates wero re-admitted , and in due course passed to tho degree of F . C ., tho W . M . performing both ceremonies in a very efficient manner , reflecting credit on him as a young Mason . Tho names of two brethren wero on tho summons for raising , and ono candidate was present , bnt owing to tho press of work , this portion of the business was postponed . Bro . Hurst now

handed the gavel to Bro . H . E . Frances P . P . G . D . Surrey , P . M . 452 , & c , the Installing Officer , and tho installation of tho W . M . elect ( Bro . John Hammond ) commenced , Bro . Hopwood having charge of tho west , Bro . Hill retaining his chair in the south , and Bro . F . Walters P . J . G . D . Middlesex acting as Director of Ceremonies . In dno timo the Lodge was opened in tho third degree , and those

brethren who have not yet succeeded in exchanging thoir rosettes for tho more exalted emblems retired ; a Board of Installed Masters was formed , and Bro . John Hammond most impressively inducted into the chair of King Solomon . Ou tho re-admission of the brethren , he was proclaimed Worshipful Master of the Hemming Lodgo , and saluted according to ancient custom . The W . M ., with a few appropriate

J . Gilbert P . G . T . re-elected Tyler . Bro . Frances was highly complimented for his excellent rendering of tho Installation ceremony . It was proposed and seconded , and unanimously agreed to by the brethren , that ho be made an honorary member of the Lodgo . Votes of thanks for valuable services , as Secretary and Treasurer , during tho past year wero heartily endorsed to Bros . W . Hammond and E . Hopwood

respectively . Bro . D . B . Paw P . M ., formerly Treasurer , was elected an honorary Past Master , and the intelligence that indisposition was the canse of his absence from tho meeting was received by the brethren with many expressions of regret and sympathy . Bro . Sam . Hill , who has also rendered valuable service to the Lodge , was likewise elected an honorary P . M . One very gratifying portion of tho proceedings yet

remains to bo recorded , i . e . the presentation of a handsome Past Master ' s jewel to Brother Hurst , as a slight token of appreciation of his services during the year of his Mastership . Bro . Hurst thanked tho brethren in feeling terms . All other business being disposed of , the Lodge was closed , and tho brethren adjourned to a banquet , well provided by tho host , Bro . Murphy . On the removal of the

cloth , the W . M ., with commendable brevity , and speaking directly to the point , gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . Hurst , tho I . P . M ., in proposing the health of the Worshipful Master , alluded to Bro . John Hammond ' s long experience as a Mason , tho active part he had taken during past years in advancing the interests of the Craft , both in Middlesex and in the neighbouring

province of Surrey . He congratulated him on being again exalted to the high position of Master of a Lodge , and heartily wished him ( what thero is every prospect of his enjoying ) a most successful year of office . Tho toast was received with great enthusiasm . The W . M ., in reply , expressed his gratification for the hearty manner in which his name had been received ; he trusted their good wishes for a

prosperous year would be realised . The health of the I . P . M was next commended to tho notice of the brethren , the W . M . congratn lating Bro . Hurst on tho result of his year of office , and hoping ho would be spared many years to wear the jewel that had just been presented to him . Bro . Hurst thanked the brethren for tho read y help and support he had received at their hands ; tho year of office

just expired would ever live in his memory as one of tho most pleasing periods of his Masonic career . The W . M ., in giving tho health of the Installing Officer , referred to the long-continued term of friendship that had existed between Bro . Frances and himself during past years . It was from this valued friend he first acquired a knowledge of his alphabet in Masonry . He was indebted to him

for whatever other knowledge of tho mystic art he now had the good fortune to possess . He further acknowledged the courtesy of the Past Masters of the Lodge in enabling him to invito his old friend to instal him into tho chair of K . S . Bro . Frances expressed his high appreciation of the unexpected compliment paid him by his election as an honorary member ; he was pleased with the working ho had

witnessed , and was sure while tho Lodge continued " Hemming , it would never be sewn up . " Bro . Jones responded as the Initiate , and Bro . Captain Kain P . P . G . Sec Warwick for the Visitors , the latter , in the course of his speech , alluded to tho pleasure he had experienced during the afternoon in observing such careful and excellent working . The first and second sections of the first lecture were worked . Two new members wero elected , and Bro . Smith chosen W . M . for next Tuesday .

Duke of Connaught Lodge of Instruction , No . 1524 . —Held at tho Havelock Tavern , Albiou-road , Dalston , on Wednesday evening , 17 th inst . Present—Bros . Brasted W . M ., Maples S . Preceptor , & c . Business—Lodge was formally opened , aud minutes confirmed . Initiation ceremony rehearsed , Bro . Johnson candidate . Lodgo advanced , and Bro . Tapson was raised . The first and second sections of the first lecture were worked . Two new members wero elected , and Bro . Smith chosen W . M . for next Tuesday .
