Gillman is well known in Masonio circles as an earnest worker , and , as Secretary , has been of great assistance to his Lodge , the members of whioh have recognised the fact by re-appointing him to that position . Mends satisfactorily answered the questions leading from the first to the

second degree . Lodgo was advanced , and Bro . Mends duly passed by the W . M ., who , upon the conclusion of the ceremony , announced that a Masonio Servioo in connection with the Lodge would be held in the Parish Church , UVmston , on Sunday , 12 th November , at 3 ' 30 p . ni ., in aid of the Masonio Charities , and that a dispensation had been granted by Earl Lathom Prov . Grand Ma * tir to wear Craft clothing

and jowels on the occasion . It was resolved that the annual ball in connection with the Lodge be held on 15 th Deoember , and that the W . M ., - Bros . G . A . Myers , J . Bowers , John Walton jun ., J . R . Ormrod , and J . Ploughman be appointed a Committee to make the necessary arrangements . Hearty good wishes were expressed by Provincial Officers and Visiting Brethren , and the Lodge duly closed . The charity

box realised a goodly sum . " The brethren afterwards partook of a substantial ropast , which had beon provided by tho genial host , Bro . John Walton , tbe remainder of tho evening being spent at tho social board , where the u = nal Loyal and Maaonic toasts were varied by songs rendered b y Bros . F . Ridsdale Bowley , Henry Nail , Edward Roberts , William

Dnmviile , Peter Henton , and otaers . Bro . Marsh W . M . proposed the toast of the r . ewly-inveated Provincial Officers ( Bros . Lloyd and Myers ) , and congratulated thoni upon their important appointments , the former as Provincial Grnnd Treasurer , the latter as Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies , bath of West Lancashire .

Bro . Myers , in response , said that up to the presont time he knew very little of Provincial matter ? , and consequently did not intend to make a long speech , though perhaps as he progressed he might fOrnish them with one of the longest on record . He acknowledged the difficulties whioh environed his position , but said that however hard these might be , the faot of working under such an Officer as

Lord Lathom would render them quite a pleasure . Bro . Lloyd said that as a member of the Urmston Lodge his MaBonio life had been a very pleasant and happy one . He gave an interesting description of his Lodge experiences , and said that he bad met and made many good friends , some of whom were the best ofineir . He had gained the brotherly love and affection of those in

his own Lodge , and the knowledge of this was one of the deli ghts he could cherish . He thanked them for their enthusiasm , and promised that whatever he could do for the Urmston Lodge would be performed withont stint . The toast of the Visitors was next proposed , whioh was followed b y that of the newly passed brother .

In response to the latter Bro . Mends said that what he had seon had made a deep impression upon him . His father , who was also a member of this Lodge , had been credited with making headway in Masonry , and he hoped he would bo enabled to tread in his footsteps . Other toasts followed .

Notices Of Meetings.

The business of the meeting inoluded the raising of Bros . Nioholson , Davis and Gentry , and the discussion of various matters of interest to the Lodge . It was decided to alter the day of meeting to tbe 4 th Monday instead of the 4 th Tuesday , and it was arranged to have a lady ' s night , when it would be possible to offer entertainment to the wives and friends of the members .

After the closing of the Lodge the brethren sat down to banquet together , tho Worthipful Master presiding in a most agreeable manner , and secnring the comfort and enjoympnfc of all present . Bro . Ross I . P . M . proposed the toast of the W . M ., and Bro . Knightley , in reply , expressed the pleasure he felt in being again present at a meeting of the Royal Savov , tho membera of which received him

with tbe same kind cordiality as ever after tho summer recess . He spoke of the arrangements for the lady ' s night , and hoped the members would rally round him and make it a success . He felt they should offer some entertainment to tho ladies as recompense for the frequent absence of their husband's on Lodge affairs . Speaking of tho Past Masters the W . M . referred to each in turn ,

and eulogised their efforts on behalf of the Lodge . On the whole he considered the Past Masters of the Royal Savoy as genial a band of brotbren as were to be found anywhere , and he hoped they would long be spared to assemble at tho meetings of the Lodge . Bros . Ross , Stiles , Sonrrab , and Holland each replied . Bro . Scurrah took the opportunity of referring to tbe contemplated

nomination of Bro . Stiles for the office of Grand Treasurer , and urged the company to use every effort in their power to ensure his return . Although they wero tolerably sanguine as to the result he urged the friends of Bro . Stiles to continue their efforts on hia behalf , as many a man had lost a good position booanse bis friends bad considered him so safe that they did not deem it necessary to attend tho election

and record their vote in his favour . > The Visitors were heartily welcomed by the W . M . when he proposed their health , and several of the guests replied . The Seoretary and Treasurer were complimented , aDd eaoh acknowledged the toast ; then the health of the Officers was proposed and acknowledged , and the proceedings terminated .

his favour , he was afterwards prepared and daly initiated by Brother Mamelok , the latter being assisted by Bro . Board , who presented the working tools . At the festive board which followed , Bro . Rideal proposed tbe health of the newly-initiated brother , who responded in suitable terms .

ARTHUR SULLIVAN LODGE , No . 2156 . THE installation ceremony and festival of St . John took place at the Old Boar ' s Head , Withy Grove , Manchester , on Weduesday , the 11 th inst ., Bro . John Goss W . M . There was an intention to

present to tbe Lodgo the poetical works of oar veteran brother and clever exponent of Lancashire life , Ben Brierley , but this matter was deferred . We are glad to see that Bro . Brierley still takes an interest in Masonic matters , and from a pleasant chat which we bad with

him , it appears that he cannot boast of possessing tho elan and elasticity of some of hu youDger brethren , still he id not inclined to relax mncb of the fervour and enthusiasm whioh in former years be has been inspired with . The installation of Bro . John Huirae was undertaken by Bro . Allen Avison P . M ., who was assisted by several Past Masters of the Lod ge

notably the following , viz ., Bro . Chas . Turner P . M ., who gave the proclamation , and presented the working tools , Bro . Wm . Goldthorpe P . M . P . G . A .
