The Grand Lodge on the 17 th April , 1767 , passed the following resolutions : — " That the Grand Lodge entertains the highest sense of the honor conferred on the Society by the initiation of their Royal Highnesses the Dukes of York , Gloucester , and Cumberland ; and that each of tlieir Royal
Highnesses be presented with an apron , lined with blue silk ; and that iu all future processions they do rank as Past Grand Masters , next to the Grand Officers for the time being . "

THE DUKE OF CUMBERLAND was proposed as Grand Master on the 10 th April , 17 S 2 , and elected by a great majority , accompanied by every possible mark of approbation and respect ; and proclaimed on the 1 st May , when he nominated the Earl of Effingham as Acting Grand Master . H , R . H . PRINCE WILLIAM HENRY , ( afterwards King William the
Fourth ) , was initiated March 9 , 1786 , in Lodge No . 86 , helcl at the Prince George , Plymouth . His Royal Highness , when Duke of Clarence , became , in 1796 , Patron of Royal Arch Masonry , on the demise of his illustrious uncle the Duke of Cumberland ; and , on the demise of King George the Fourth , became Patron of the United Grand Lodge . He received the apron and rank as Past Grand Master on the

GEORGE AUGUSTUS , PRINCE OF WALES , was initiated at a Special Lodge held for that purpose at the Star-ancl-Garter , Pall-mall , on the 6 th of February , 1787 , his uncle , the Duke of Cumberland , as Master ; whereon the Grand Lodge , in testimony of the high sense it
entertained of the honor thereby conferred on the Society , resolved that his Royal Highness be presented with an apron , faced with blue silk , and in all assemblies he should take place next to , and on the right hand of , the Grand Master . PRINCE EDWARD ( afterwards Duke of Kent ) was initiated
into Masonry in the Union Lodge , Geneva , in 1789 . His Royal High ness became Provincial Grand Master of Halifax , Nova Scotia , and Patron of the Kni ght Templars of Scotland , in 1790- His Royal Highness received the silk apron , and rank of a Past Grand Master .
