Masonic Notes.

Masonic Notes .

In the genera ! exodus to Europe from America this year there is certain to be a large contingent of distinguished Freemasons , who will , we trust , be cordially received by the Fraternity on this side , but we have rather an uneasy feeling that except in rare instances we do not exhibit ourselves in this respect in such a good light as our American cousins .

The Anglo-American Lodge in London has done yeoman service in that direction , but the reception of American visitors ought not to be wholly left to that

hospitable body , and we trust that the London and Provincial lodges meeting during the summer will lay themselves out to receive and entertain such as may pass their way .

Bro . the Hon . Michael Arnold , Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Ledge of Pennsylvania , is , according to the Keystone , on his way hither , and the editor bespeaks for him a cordial greeting of those of his brethren of Great Britain whom he shall meet .

Bro . Charles E . Meyer , too , with several Philadel phia brethren , is due about this time . Our good friend and brother needs no credentials to ensure a hearty welcome here—he cannot come too often . Since writing the above , we learn that Bro . Meyer

reached Queenstown on the 3 rd , by the " City of New York , " and Liverpool the same day . Leaving for Glasgow on Thursday , and the Trossachs and Stirling on Friday , he spends to-day and to-morrow in Edinburgh , and starts for London on Monday . The Masonic party

is a small one this time , consisting of Bros . Meyer , George Branson , Daniel Sutter ( well-known to many of us as one of the ori g inal Pilgrimage of the " Mary Commandery" ) W . T . Millick , and William J . Kelly ( whose name is known and respected throughout his

Grand Lodge ) , with Mrs . Sutter and a few other ladies . They stay , as before , at " The Inns of Court Hotel , " until Friday , when they depart for Paris , but will be again in London from the 21 st July to the 23 rd inclusive , and are due to reach New York on 1 st August .

We regret much to hear that Bro . Meyer is far from well , according to letter just received by Bro . Hughan , and therefore is not likely to be able to move much about to meet his brethren , and they must look him up instead .

We have just finished reading Bro . Gould ' s Commentary on the " Masonic Poem , " " Urbanitates , " and " Instructions for a Parish Priest , " in the fine volume of reprints just issued by Lodge Quatuor Coronati , as well as Bro . Hughan ' s criticisms thereon . They are

both splendid bits of work , and we have been fairl y astounded at the amount of erudition displayed b y Bro . Gould , and the learned and happy style of Bro . Hughan ' s comments . It is really something for

Masons to be proud of , and is calculated to remove altogether the reproach formerly existing that Masonic criticism is not on u level with other departments of literature .
