The Grand Ofiicers of Grand Mark Lodge vvere selected , to a very great extent , from among those vvho had won their spurs by good service not only to the Mark Degree , but to the Craft Grand Lodge and the Craft generally . After reverting to the taking over of the new Grand Mark premises , he said they
were still making progress , and were prepared to do even more than they had ever yet done to increase the prosperity and usefulness of the Order . He expressed his surprise that in a place like Greenwich and its immediate vicinity , holding as it did so many excellent Craft lodges , that the Mark Degree did not prosper so well as it ought . They had the Heir to the Throne as their Grand Master , a large amount
of funds at their disposal—three male pensioners received , £ 25 per annum and three female pensioners £ 21 ; they paid for the education of a number of children at their own homes , and allowed £ 5 per annum for clothing for them ; that , bethought , vvas very respectable work , and when they saw vvho was at their head , and the state of their funds , they had much to be proud of , and need not be ashamed of
asking their brethren of the Craft to join them in the Mark . For himself he trusted he might be spared for many years to come amongst them , and lind that they vvere increasing in numbers . It had given him great pleasure to to havc installed Bro . Carter into the chair , and sliouldthey at any time require his services for any or either of the brethren vvho would succeed Bro . too happy to perform the same service for them . ' Our distinguished brother then resumed his chair amid applause . Bro . Kipps , P . M . ( Hon ) , P . P . G . M . The I . P . M ., Bro . Gore , then proposed "The Health of the W . M . " in eloquent terms , and hoped that Bro . Gooding ' s wishes would be realised , and that their W . M . would have plenty of work during his year of ofiice . Bro . Carter thanked Bro . Gore and the brethren for their kindness , he in proposing and they in so warmly receiving
the toast , and earnestly re-echoed the wishes of Bros . Gooding and Gore , and trusted next year to have an increase rather than a diminished list of brethren to present to Grand Lodge . Nothing should be wanting on his part to produce such a happy result , and if the brethren helped him he had no doubt of the ultimate success of their good lodge—the Borough of Greenwich .
