After the banquet the usual loyal and . Masonic toasts were gone through , when Bro . Taylor , this handsome clock as a mark of our respect and esteem . Bro . Taylor has been our valued Preceptor now since the lodge has been established , and in presenting him with this testimonial it is carrying with it the good wishes of every brother in the lodge for the gentlemanly and willing manner in which he has always given his valuable assistance to
every one of us . We trust he may be spared many years to give to Masonry his valuable services , which he has always done with cheerfulness . Bro . J . P . Taylor , Preceptor , in replying , said : Bro . Goodchild and brethren , I am so much taken by surprise at this handsome and unexpected tribute to my humble efforts that I am quite unable to use that eloquence which one would hope to command at such a time . I have certainly always believed that Masons were taught to be cautious . Ihe brethren on this occasion have certainly acted up to the Masonic tradition . 1 also thought that I had the confidence of my lodge of instruction —( cries
of " So you have )—and that they would hold no secret meetings without my knowledge , but they must have done so to organise such a splendid testimonial as this . I can look back to the many Masonic meetings held under this lodge of instruction , viz ., when Bro . James Terry , whom we are all so proud to honour at all times , came down and rehearsed the consecration ceremony—So were present . Again , we had the pleasure of a lecture by Bro . Henry Sadler ; and on one occasion when I performed the installation ceremony , Go brethren were present ; so that , at least , we have justified our existence .
