Stradling har presented a handsome clock to the lodge , and the same has been placed in the Temple . After the lodge business the brethren sat down to a banquet laid in the large room , Bro . John Rolfe , W . M ., presiding . The catering was undertaken by Mrs . Stilwell , of the Dolphin Hotel . The W . M . proposed the toast of " His Majesty the King , the Protector of Freemasonry" also " H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , G . M . Elect . "
, Other toasts were submitted , including " Bro . G . K . North , the Initiate , 'and "Bro . Fawssett , the new Chaplain . " Bro . S . Knight , jun ., proposed " The Health of the Worshipful Master , " remarking that Bro . Rolfe had gone [ through the first half of his year ' s presidency in a most successful and satisfactory manner . The W . M . suitably replied . Bro . Cosburn , in an eloquent manner , proposed the toist of "The Past Masters . "
Response was made by Bro . Day , who said he was glad to see the work so well done as it had been by their W . M . that evening . While such interest wis shown , the lodge would always maintain a high position in the Craft . During the evening several capital songs and recitations were given by Bros . The Committee decided that the testimonial should take the form of the gold watch he had just presented . Bro . Roe , who was received with acclamation , replied in feeling terms , and thanked the brethren from the bottom of his heart for their geasrous tppreciithn of his services and kindly wishes , and assured them that it had always bsen a labour of love to do his very best for the lodge , and as he did not propose psrmmently leiving the neighbourhood , he hoped to have the pleasure of being associated with ths Iodge and brethren for many years to come .
St . John ' s Lodge , No . 104 . The brethren of the above Iodge , on the 17 th instant , marked their aporeciatton of the services rendered by one of their officers in an appropriate manner . The brethren met at the Mechanics' Institute , Stockport , and after partaking of an excellent repast Bro . Walter Ackroyd , VV . M ., took the chair . There were a number of visiting brethren present , including Bro . Robert Hilton , J . P . ( Mayor of Middleton ) , who is a P . M . and a Prov . Grand Officer .
After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been honoured , the W . M . presented Bro . John Bell , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . Cheshire , who for 14 years has been Secretary of the lodge , with a handsome silver tea set and trav , on which were inscribed ths f blowing : "Presented to Bro . John Bell , P > M ., P . P . J . G . D . Cheshire , by the brethren of St . John's Lodge , No . 104 , as a token of their esteem and high appreciation of his long untiring and invaluable services as their Honorary Sscretary . The W . M ., in making the presentation , spoke eloquently of the long and able service rendered by Bro . Bell , and he expressed the hope that the distressing illness under which he had been suffering would soon disappear , that the Great Architect would give him health and strength to continue to serve the lodge with the faithfulness and devotedness which had at all times characterised him . Bro . Bell , in responding , said he could not find words to adequitely express his
thanks . He had only done his duty , and other members of the lodge hid equilly done theirs , and his only object had been to assist the good old lodge in doing what other lodges in the town and province were doing , its duty in the great work of Chirity . In conclusion he said he should always look with pride on that beautiful present , and he felt sure his wife and family would be equally appreciative . Subsequently Bros . J . Cookson , P . P . G . W . ; H . H . Royle , present P . G . Treas . j and brethren from other lodges bore testimony to Bro . Bell ' s popularity .

Earl Spencer Lodge , No . 1420 . INSTALLATION OF BRO . W . E . BARROW . The annual festival in connection with the above lodge was held at Stanley ' s Restaurant , Lavender Girdens , S . W ., on Thursday , the 16 th instant . Bro . G . E . Hayles presided , and was supported by the following Past Masters : Bros . Kempster , Pilditch , Hills , Young , Merry , Kennaby , Kingston , Southwell , Bramall , Moody , Mead , Windsor , Ollive , Dodd , Southam , and Martin . The visitors pres : nt , of whom thsre wis a
large number , included the following Past Masters : Bros . Hudson , 141 ; Wright , 1962 ; Roberts , 55 ; Haike , 33 ; Clark , 2699 ; Bennett , 946 ; Riymond , 1305 ; Woods , 1 C 94 and S 5 S ; and Mann , 144 and 2467 . The lodge having been opened , the report of the Perminent Committee wai received , which showed that the lodge had now a sum of about . £ 270 to its credit , after paying all dues and contributing liberally to the various Masonic Charities . Bro . Humphrey was raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., and the W . M . elsct , Bro . Birrow ,
was duly installed in the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being admirably perfo-m : d by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Hales , assisted by Bro . Windsor , P . M ., as D . of C . The newlyinstalled W . the LP . M ., a compliment which Bro . Hales suitably acknowledged . Bro . Hills , P . M ., drew thc attention of the brethren to the fact that Bro . Southam , P . M ., after serving , them faithfully and well as Secretary for 13 years , had now resigned that position—1 step he knew they would all regret , and he moved that at the next meeting of ths lodge they arrange for the presentation of an illuminated address to Bro . Southa-n , in recognition of his services . Seconded by Bro . Bramall , P . M ., and carried unanimously . Bro . Southam , P . M ., in response , expressed the justification he felt that Bro . Southwell , P . M ., should succeed him as Secretary .
Tfc lodge was then closed , and the brethren sat down to the excellent banquet which had been prepared for them , and applied themselves to as faithful a discharge of the duties of the " Fourth Degree " as they had bestowed on any of the preceding Degrees . The toast of "The King and the Craft" was loyally hononred , and the National Anthem sung .
In proposing "The Health of the M . W . G . Master , H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., " the W . M . observed that if the Duke ' s performance of his duties as a General in the British Army was any augury they would have no cause to regret their choice of a Grand Master . Bro . Pulman replied to thc toast of "The Grand O . Ticers , " and expressed the
pleasure it gave him to visit the lodge after the laose of so many years since he had Iirst joined it . Subsequently he had taken office as J . W . and S . W . and bsen elected to the chair . He was sure the Duke of Connaught would make a Grand Master second to none unless it was the King , who they hoped would bs present at his successor ' s installation en July 17 th .
The I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " referred to the splendid services he had already rendered the Earl Spencer Lodge , and he was sure he would occupy the chair as well as any previous W . M . had done . The tdkst was received most cordially , and the W . M ., in response , thanked the I . P . M . for the manner in which he had proposed his health , and the brethren generally
tor the way in which it had been received . 1 he present was one of the proudest , if not the proudest moment in his life , for he fully appreciated su : h a high honour as being elected to the chair of such a lodge , the many Past Masters of which were dis : inguished alike in Masonry and in civil or social life . They all knew his zeal for Misonry and he hoped later on to succeed in amply justifying the choice they hij mide .
The W . M . proposed "The Health of the Installing Mister , " and referred in graceful term ' s to the excellent work that had been done by Bro . H ties . Bro . Hates , in reply , assured the brethren he wis proul to > cc ipy the poiitiin of a Past Master in the Earl Spencer Lodge , and that he would always value the jewel with which he had been presented that evening more than any other ne mignt obtiin as it wis the gift of his mother lodge , in which , so it seemed to htm , they had one and all striven to " Be to his virtues very kind , and to his faults a little bund . "

NEW PUBLIC HALL FOR DULWICH . —The contract has been entered into for the erection of the new grand public hill for Dulwich on freehold site in Gro * e Vile , East Dulwich , and building operations have com nenced . Tne building , which will include large and small hall , Masonic Temple , club rooms , Si :., is to be completed in timsloe the coming winter season , commencing in November next . The plans have b : en duly passed and approved by the London County Council , and a provisional music and dancing license granted . members of this Iodge and chapter , without one exception , as well as by many of the non-resident and ex-members . The Committee decided that the testimonial should take the form of the gold watch he had just presented . Bro . Roe , who was received with acclamation , replied in feeling terms , and thanked the brethren from the bottom of his heart for their geasrous tppreciithn of his services and kindly wishes , and assured them that it had always bsen a labour of love to do his very best for the lodge , and as he did not propose psrmmently leiving the neighbourhood , he hoped to have the pleasure of being associated with ths Iodge and brethren for many years to come .
St . John ' s Lodge , No . 104 . The brethren of the above Iodge , on the 17 th instant , marked their aporeciatton of the services rendered by one of their officers in an appropriate manner . The brethren met at the Mechanics' Institute , Stockport , and after partaking of an excellent repast Bro . Walter Ackroyd , VV . M ., took the chair . There were a number of visiting brethren present , including Bro . Robert Hilton , J . P . ( Mayor of Middleton ) , who is a P . M . and a Prov . Grand Officer .
After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been honoured , the W . M . presented Bro . John Bell , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . Cheshire , who for 14 years has been Secretary of the lodge , with a handsome silver tea set and trav , on which were inscribed ths f blowing : "Presented to Bro . John Bell , P > M ., P . P . J . G . D . Cheshire , by the brethren of St . John's Lodge , No . 104 , as a token of their esteem and high appreciation of his long untiring and invaluable services as their Honorary Sscretary . The W . M ., in making the presentation , spoke eloquently of the long and able service rendered by Bro . Bell , and he expressed the hope that the distressing illness under which he had been suffering would soon disappear , that the Great Architect would give him health and strength to continue to serve the lodge with the faithfulness and devotedness which had at all times characterised him . Bro . Bell , in responding , said he could not find words to adequitely express his
thanks . He had only done his duty , and other members of the lodge hid equilly done theirs , and his only object had been to assist the good old lodge in doing what other lodges in the town and province were doing , its duty in the great work of Chirity . In conclusion he said he should always look with pride on that beautiful present , and he felt sure his wife and family would be equally appreciative . Subsequently Bros . J . Cookson , P . P . G . W . ; H . H . Royle , present P . G . Treas . j and brethren from other lodges bore testimony to Bro . Bell ' s popularity .
The proceedings were of a very happy character , and were sustained with all tha dignity that Maronic rites could invest them with .
Earl Spencer Lodge , No . 1420 . INSTALLATION OF BRO . W . E . BARROW . The annual festival in connection with the above lodge was held at Stanley ' s Restaurant , Lavender Girdens , S . W ., on Thursday , the 16 th instant . Bro . G . E . Hayles presided , and was supported by the following Past Masters : Bros . Kempster , Pilditch , Hills , Young , Merry , Kennaby , Kingston , Southwell , Bramall , Moody , Mead , Windsor , Ollive , Dodd , Southam , and Martin . The visitors pres : nt , of whom thsre wis a
large number , included the following Past Masters : Bros . Hudson , 141 ; Wright , 1962 ; Roberts , 55 ; Haike , 33 ; Clark , 2699 ; Bennett , 946 ; Riymond , 1305 ; Woods , 1 C 94 and S 5 S ; and Mann , 144 and 2467 . The lodge having been opened , the report of the Perminent Committee wai received , which showed that the lodge had now a sum of about . £ 270 to its credit , after paying all dues and contributing liberally to the various Masonic Charities . Bro . Humphrey was raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., and the W . M . elsct , Bro . Birrow ,
was duly installed in the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being admirably perfo-m : d by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Hales , assisted by Bro . Windsor , P . M ., as D . of C . The newlyinstalled W . the LP . M ., a compliment which Bro . Hales suitably acknowledged . Bro . Hills , P . M ., drew thc attention of the brethren to the fact that Bro . Southam , P . M ., after serving , them faithfully and well as Secretary for 13 years , had now resigned that position—1 step he knew they would all regret , and he moved that at the next meeting of ths lodge they arrange for the presentation of an illuminated address to Bro . Southa-n , in recognition of his services . Seconded by Bro . Bramall , P . M ., and carried unanimously . Bro . Southam , P . M ., in response , expressed the justification he felt that Bro . Southwell , P . M ., should succeed him as Secretary .
Tfc lodge was then closed , and the brethren sat down to the excellent banquet which had been prepared for them , and applied themselves to as faithful a discharge of the duties of the " Fourth Degree " as they had bestowed on any of the preceding Degrees . The toast of "The King and the Craft" was loyally hononred , and the National Anthem sung .
In proposing "The Health of the M . W . G . Master , H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., " the W . M . observed that if the Duke ' s performance of his duties as a General in the British Army was any augury they would have no cause to regret their choice of a Grand Master . Bro . Pulman replied to thc toast of "The Grand O . Ticers , " and expressed the
pleasure it gave him to visit the lodge after the laose of so many years since he had Iirst joined it . Subsequently he had taken office as J . W . and S . W . and bsen elected to the chair . He was sure the Duke of Connaught would make a Grand Master second to none unless it was the King , who they hoped would bs present at his successor ' s installation en July 17 th .
The I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " referred to the splendid services he had already rendered the Earl Spencer Lodge , and he was sure he would occupy the chair as well as any previous W . M . had done . The tdkst was received most cordially , and the W . M ., in response , thanked the I . P . M . for the manner in which he had proposed his health , and the brethren generally
tor the way in which it had been received . 1 he present was one of the proudest , if not the proudest moment in his life , for he fully appreciated su : h a high honour as being elected to the chair of such a lodge , the many Past Masters of which were dis : inguished alike in Masonry and in civil or social life . They all knew his zeal for Misonry and he hoped later on to succeed in amply justifying the choice they hij mide .
The W . M . proposed "The Health of the Installing Mister , " and referred in graceful term ' s to the excellent work that had been done by Bro . H ties . Bro . Hates , in reply , assured the brethren he wis proul to > cc ipy the poiitiin of a Past Master in the Earl Spencer Lodge , and that he would always value the jewel with which he had been presented that evening more than any other ne mignt obtiin as it wis the gift of his mother lodge , in which , so it seemed to htm , they had one and all striven to " Be to his virtues very kind , and to his faults a little bund . "
The toast of " 1 he Visitors" was responded to by Bros . Roberts , P . M . ; Woods , P . M . ; and Clark , P . M . 'The toasts of " The Oflicers of the Lodge " and " The Treasurer and Secretary " were proposed , duly honoured , and briefly responded to 0 / the brethren so complimented , the proceedings being brought to a conclusion with the Tyler ' s toist .
At intervals during the progress ol the banquet a well-arranged selection of music was given under the direction of Bro . G . S . Grahim , Organist to the lodge , and P . P . G . Org . Middlesex and Surrey , assisted by Miss Dorothy Forden , Miss Bertha Geider , Bro . Henry Prenton , Messrs . Sidney Isom , Frank Peskett , and Ambrose Skinner .
NEW PUBLIC HALL FOR DULWICH . —The contract has been entered into for the erection of the new grand public hill for Dulwich on freehold site in Gro * e Vile , East Dulwich , and building operations have com nenced . Tne building , which will include large and small hall , Masonic Temple , club rooms , Si :., is to be completed in timsloe the coming winter season , commencing in November next . The plans have b : en duly passed and approved by the London County Council , and a provisional music and dancing license granted . The hall ( to be called the New Imperial Hall ) will , without doubt , meet a long felt want in this rising suburb . The projected L . C .
