Lodge xvas convened . A very large number of the Brethren of both Lodges and many distinguished visitors attended . The AV . M ., Bro . Dudley , Mayor of Oxford , presided , and John Fisher , Esq ., xvho had been duly elected , xvas regularly initiated . A private subscrip tion had been commenced at the prexdous Lodge , to present Past Steward Jewels to Bros . Toxxmsend and Fraserin testimony
, of the esteem of their Brethren , and as an acknoxxdedgment of their valuable sendees . These Jexvels were presented in the Lodge , and xvere duly acknowledged by their recipients . The Sen . AVarden of the Loclge , Bro . Randall , took the occasion of the very full meeting present , fco call the attention of the Brethren to the case of a distressed Brotherxvho having been in prosperous circumstances
, , was noxv , by the pressure of adversity , reduced to the necessity of appealing to his Brother Masons and the public , to enable him to proceed xvith his wife ancl family of eight children to Australia . The appieal thus made to the sympathy of tbe Brethren xvas not in x'ain . The AV . M . commenced b y a subscription of £ 5 . A like sum was voted from the funds of the Loclge , and the same
amount xvas promised from the Prov . Grand " Lodge , and also from the funds of the Apollo Lodge . The private subscriptions of the members of the Lodges were also very liberally promised ; and fully did the Brethren prove on this occasion , thafc " the mystic tie" of Freemasonry is a bond of love and charity , which hinds man to man xvith those truly fraternal feelings xvhich neither poverty on the one
hand , nor rank and riches on the other , can ever separate . On Thursday morning the Prov . Grand Lodge xvas held at txvelve o ' clock , the Et . AV . the Prov . G . M . the Eev . 0 . J . Eidley , presiding . The usual business xvas transacted , the most gratifying of xvhich xvas , the voting a very large portion of the funds to the purposes of charity . Besides the annual subscriptions to the many excellent Masonic charities in Londonsums were voted to ' the
, Badcliffe Infirmary , the Medical Dispensary , the Blue Coat Boys ' School , the Clothing Fund , and other Oxford charities . The Bt . AV . Prov . G .
