Jersey And Guernsey.
Life being uncertain , and all earthly pursuits vain , let us no longer postpone the important concerns of preparing for eternity , but embrace the present moment , xvhilst time and opportunity offer , to prepare for that great change , when all the pleasures of this world shall cease to delight , and the reflections of a religious and virtuous life will yield our only comfort and consolation . Our expectations xvill not then be frustrated , nor shall xve be hurried unprepared into the presence of an all-xvise and powerful Judge , to xvhom the secrets of all hearts are known , and from
xvhose dread tribunal no culprit can escape . Let us , while in this stage of existence , support xvith propriety our profession , advert to the nature of our solemnities , and pursue xvith assiduity the sacred tenets of our Order . With becoming reverence , let us supplicate the Divine Aid , and insure the favour of that great I AM , xvhose goodness and power know no bounds ; and when the axvful moment shall arrive that xve are about to prosecute our journey , be it soon or be it late , we may be enabled to prosecute that journey xvithout dread or apprehension , to that far-distant country from whence no traveller returns . By the
light of the Divine countenance we may be enabled to pass through those gloomy mansions where all things are forgotten , and xvhen arraigned at the bar of Divine Justice , xve may hope that judgment xvill be given in our favour , and that xve shall receive our reward in the possession of an immortal inheritance , xvhere joy flows in one continual stream , and no mound can check its course . May xve be true and faithful , aud may we live and die in love—So mote it he . May we profess xvhat is good , and alxvays act up to our profession—So mote it be .
