A DAY IN THE COUNTRY . —The London Cottage Mission is most desirous of giving some thousand or fifteen hundred children belonging to its Sunday Schools , Band of Hope , Ragged Schools , & c , from the slums of Stepney , Limehouse , and the East End of London , their annual excursion , one day in the fresh air , either in the country or at the seaside , as funds may permit , and an appeal for special funds for this purpose is made by Mr .
Walter Au tin , Managing Director of the Mission , 44 , Finsbury Pavement , E . K ., svho svill gladly receive and acknowledge all donations for the purpose . Bro . the Lord Mayor , M . P ., has addressed a letter to the different organs of the daily press , in which he makes an urgent appeal to the public on behalf of the sufferers by the recent colliery accident near Manchester . It appears that a large sum of money will be needed for
the purpose , the 1 S 0 men svho have lost their lives by this terrible catastrophe having left behind them 85 svidoivs , 279 young children , and 3 G other dependents , making in all 400 svho have been deprived of their means of living by the death of their several bread-winners . We trust the response svill be , as almost invariably happens in these cases , a most liberal one . At the Council held by the Oueen at Windsor
Castle on Saturday last , theSMarquis of Watcrford , K . P ., and Lord Arthur Hill svere introduced and ssvorn in Privy Councillors . Previously the Great Officers of State and other officers of the Household under Mr . It would be indeed strange if our account of and remarks on last sveek ' s Festival had been absolutely faultless . Happily the sins of omission and commission sve have to apologise for are both fesv and unimportant . Bro . Scurrah , for instance , svho was Steward for Lodge No . 167 , svrites us that sve described him as W . M . No . 204 S , whereas he is only VV . M . elect . He also reminds us svith reference to our statement that Mrs . D . P . Cama ,
Steward for No . 1642 , " headed the London list for the third consecutive time , " svhich is perfectly true , as the lady in question did occupy that position of honour at the Benevolent Festival in February , the Girls' Festival in May , and the Boys' Festival on the 24 th ult . Bro . Scurrah ' s magnificent list of 600 guineas was included in the Boys ' Festival in June , 1884 , which is the fourth in order reckoning backwards from the present time . As regards one
error of omission , sve ought certainly to have made honourable mention of Bro . b'itzherbert Wright , P . Prov . G . S . W . Derbyshire , and one of the Honorary Presidents of the Board of Stesvards , svho by his great influence and exertions , as svell as by his personal contribution of 100 guineas , assisted so very materially in the success of the Chairman ' s Province of Derbyshire on the 24 th ult . Bro . Wright is a Patron of the Boys' School , a Vice-Patron of the Girls ' School , and a Vice-President of the Benevolent Institution ,
and it is only right that sve should accord him the respect which is due to such generous aid to our Institutions . 3 , 000 , 000 tins of CHAMPION'S MUSTARD were sold in London alone dnring the past year . Why was this so ? Because the public , having satisfied themselves it svas the best and cheapest gave it a preference overall others . —ADVT . £ 20 . —Tobacconists commencing . — A pamphlet ( 80 pages ) How to open respectably from £ 20 ; three stamps . the globe astonishes es'ervbod' / , and a single trial convinces the most sceptical that no medicine equals HoIIosvay's Pills in its ability to remove all complaints incidental to the human race . They are a blessing to the alHicted , and a boon to all that labour under internal or external disease . The purification of the blood , removal of all restraint from the secrctis-e organs , and gentle aperitive action are the prolific sources of the extensive curatis-e range of Holloway's Pills . —Auvr .
