The annual convocation of this Provincial Grand Chapter took place on the 17 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Marlon-road , Middlesbro ' , by invitation of the Marwood Chapter , No . 602 . of their Deputy Provincial Grand Mark Master Mason , Bro . Hickman , he svished to mention hoiv deeply they regretted his death , and the loss of hii gre . 'U services . Bro . J . E . LE FEUVRE , P . P . G . S . W ., said it svas svith melancholy feeling of regret he seconded the remarks that had been spoken from the chair . Bro . Hickman svas so svell knosvn to the brethren that he need not dilale upon the valuable services he had rendered to Masonry . His name was dearly enshrined in every Mason ' s heart .
the sum of £ 5 5 s . was voted from the funds tosvards the Grand Mark Benevolent Fund . The P . G . M . M . said that the time had arris'ed svhen he could no longer fill the chair he nosv held , partly on account of his health , and partly of the great many things he had to do . He svas sure the lodges wanted to see more of their Prov . Grand Master , and he regretted to savhe had not visited as he should like to have dons . He expresssd his grateful thanks for the
support his different officers had given him . and his obligations to those who had filled the offices of D . P . G . INI . M . M ., Treasurer , and Secretary for the time ihey had given , lie had thought a great deal about a successor , and would like to suggest a brother svho ss'as in a high social position and a good Mason , who took a great interest in that and other Degrees . Bro . LE FEUVRE said that the brethren very much regretted the Prov . Grand Mark Master declining to be re-appointed . They fully appreciated Bro . Lord John Taylour and his Masonic abilities . He ( Bro . Le Feuvre ) had been taken very much by surprise by the P . G . M . M . absolutely declining to be reappointed , and hoped he svould reconsider it . ( Applause . )
The P . G . M . M . expressed his thanks for the feeling shosvn tosvards him . It distressed him to hold an office in which he knesv he did not do his duty . He most certainly felt that a change should take place . Bro . LE FEUVRE said , that for 15 years Bro . tlie Rev . Canon Portal had presided over them , and proud indeed svere they . ( Applause . ) He thought that the D . P . G . M . M . svho would be appointed that day svould assist the P . G . M . M . in his duties to a considerable extent . He claimed the liberty
of being allosved to renominate Bro . ihe Rev . Canon Portal as P . G . M . M . —( loud applause)—svhose services had been verv great lo ihe Order generally . In offering a dissenting voice to the election of Bro . Lord John Taylour it was not out of disrespect , as they all knew hosv valuable his services svere ahd hosv highly they s \ -ere appreciated . The privilege of nominal ing a P . G . M . M . only occurred once in three years , and he ventured to propose the renomination of Bro . Canon Portal . ( Loud and continued applause . )
Bro . STONE asked to be allowed to svithdrasv his seconding Bro . Lord J . Taylour , as he svas under the impression that the P . G . M . M . had absolutel y declined to be renominated .
Bro . Lord J IAYI . OUR seconded the proposition of Bro Lo Feuvre , and asked the P . G . M . M . to consider svell svhat had been said and be renominated . ( Loud applause . ) The P . G . M . M . said that after the expression of feeling shosvn by the brethren he would agree to fulfil the office and place his " very imperfect services " at their disposal . ( Applause . )
The proposition was put and carried wilh acclamation , and the P . G . M . M , briefly thanked the brethren . Bro . R . J . Rastrick svas re-elected Treasurer ior the ensuing year , and the W . M . ' s of Lodges 63 and 125 svere elected on the Audit Committee .
Bro . TILLING , Secretary , read a statement of thc progress and business of the province duiing the past year , shosving that there were 311 members against 2 S 1 last year in the province , who had collectively had 65 meetings and advanced 61 brethren . Out of this the Aldershot Military Lodge , No . 54 , Bro . H . Stone , VV . M ., had passed 30 in 14 meetings .
The P . G . M . M . said that the province svas to be congratulated on the progress made . The adhesion of Bro . H . R . H . the Prince of VVales to the Degree and accepting the rank of Past Grand Master , had done an immense deal of good , as had also Bro . H . R . H . Piince Albert Victor joining , and hoped that he would eventually hold a high position in the Order . The
Educational Fund had done well , and the lirst silver medal for good conduct had fallen to a lad in the province . It svas David William Russell Symon , who was at King Edsvard VL's Grammar School , Southampton . That tosvn and province were honoured by the recipient having the only medal . He congratulated Bro . H . Stone on the number of advancements ( 30 ) made , whicii was something astonishing .

Bro . LE FEUVRE said that the brethren very much regretted the Prov . Grand Mark Master declining to be re-appointed . They fully appreciated Bro . Lord John Taylour and his Masonic abilities . He ( Bro . Le Feuvre ) had been taken very much by surprise by the P . G . M . M . absolutely declining to be reappointed , and hoped he svould reconsider it . ( Applause . )
The P . G . M . M . expressed his thanks for the feeling shosvn tosvards him . It distressed him to hold an office in which he knesv he did not do his duty . He most certainly felt that a change should take place . Bro . LE FEUVRE said , that for 15 years Bro . tlie Rev . Canon Portal had presided over them , and proud indeed svere they . In offering a dissenting voice to the election of Bro . Lord John Taylour it was not out of disrespect , as they all knew hosv valuable his services svere ahd hosv highly they s \ -ere appreciated . The privilege of nominal ing a P . G . M . M . only occurred once in three years , and he ventured to propose the renomination of Bro . Canon Portal . ( Loud and continued applause . )
Bro . STONE asked to be allowed to svithdrasv his seconding Bro . Lord J . Taylour , as he svas under the impression that the P . G . M . M . had absolutel y declined to be renominated .
Bro . Lord J IAYI . OUR seconded the proposition of Bro Lo Feuvre , and asked the P . G . M . M . to consider svell svhat had been said and be renominated . ( Loud applause . ) The P . G . M . M . said that after the expression of feeling shosvn by the brethren he would agree to fulfil the office and place his " very imperfect services " at their disposal . ( Applause . )
The proposition was put and carried wilh acclamation , and the P . G . M . M , briefly thanked the brethren . Bro . R . J . Rastrick svas re-elected Treasurer ior the ensuing year , and the W . M . ' s of Lodges 63 and 125 svere elected on the Audit Committee .
Bro . TILLING , Secretary , read a statement of thc progress and business of the province duiing the past year , shosving that there were 311 members against 2 S 1 last year in the province , who had collectively had 65 meetings and advanced 61 brethren . Out of this the Aldershot Military Lodge , No . 54 , Bro . H . Stone , VV . M ., had passed 30 in 14 meetings .
The P . G . M . M . said that the province svas to be congratulated on the progress made . The adhesion of Bro . H . R . H . the Prince of VVales to the Degree and accepting the rank of Past Grand Master , had done an immense deal of good , as had also Bro . H . R . H . Piince Albert Victor joining , and hoped that he would eventually hold a high position in the Order . The
Educational Fund had done well , and the lirst silver medal for good conduct had fallen to a lad in the province . It svas David William Russell Symon , who was at King Edsvard VL's Grammar School , Southampton . That tosvn and province were honoured by the recipient having the only medal . He congratulated Bro . H . Stone on the number of advancements ( 30 ) made , whicii was something astonishing .
