After Grand Lodge had been formally opened , the minutes of the December communication and of the special Grand Lodgeof 21 st March were read and confirmed . Thc M . W . G . M ., then said that before proceeding any further xvith Grand Lodge business he had to read two replies he had received to the addresses xvhich had been voted by Grand Lodge , and xvhich appeared in
the report of the General Board , one to Her Majesty and the other to the Duke of Albany . Her Majesty had graciously answered the address through the Secretary of State for the Home Department , as folloxvs : — " Whitehall , Sth May , 1 SS 2 . My Lord , —I havc had the honour to lay before the Queen the loyal and dutiful address of the Mark Master Masons of England and Wales , and the Colonies and Dependencies of the British
Crown , on the subject of the recent attempt upon the life of Her Majesty , and I have it in command to assure your lordship lhat Her Majesty is deeply sensible of the loyalty and affection of her faithful subjects . " This compliment xvas deeply gratifying to Mark Masons who

The letter xvas an autograph letter of the Duke of Albany , and was in the following terms : "Claremont , Esher , Surrey . May ist ., 18 S 2 . Dear Lord Henniker , —Will you be good enough to convey to the Mark Master Masons of England and Wales , and the Colonies and Dependencies of the British

" These two documents he directed to be kept among the archives of Grand Lodge . He xvas glad to say in regard to the
last of the two documents , the Mark Master Masons of England intended to give his Royal Highness thc Duke of Albany a present . They did not do so at the time of his marriage , because the Order extending all over the xvorld , before they could decide xvhat present to give H . R . Bro . BINCKES said some fexv had been read , and Ihey xvere couched in very flattering terms . The G . M . said the subscriptions from the lodges throughout England were already very large , and those alcne xvould enable Mark Masons to make H . R . H . a very handsome present .
The G . M . then presented the Rev . J . Studholme-Broxvnrigg , P . G .
