PROVISIONAL GRAND LODGE OF ESSEX . — A meeting of the Masonic Charity Committee of this province was held , on the 5 th inst ., at V . AV . Bro . F . A . Philbrick ' s Chambers . Temple . E . G .. and under his presidency , when it was resolved that after payingdebts the support of the province should be given to the cases respectively of Charles AVilliam Green and Clement Siggers for the
Boys' School ( 2 Gth October next ) , and Mabel Elizabeth Bruce and Ivy Grace Towse for the Girls' School ( October 27 th ) . A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Bros . Dehave . Shedd . Clowes , and AVood for their services as representatives at the elections , and they were invited to continue to act in that capacity . The request that proxies ( not filled in ) should be sent to either of the above

W . Fells , Mr . AV . J . Lloyd , and Mr . Richd . Perry were balloted for and accepted as candidates for initiation . Mr . AVilson was unable to be present , but the other three were initiated by the AV . M . The AV . M . i
relinquished the chair in favour , of Bro . Leins , who proceeded to install Bro . Mitchell into the chair of K . S ., according to ancient form , and Bro . Mitchell invested Bro . Ferry with the collar of I . P . M . The usual addresses were admirably delivered , and the ceremony brought to a close . The AV . M . invested the officers for the ensuing year as follows : Bros . M . 9 , acknowledged the toast of " The Visitors . " An interesting part of the evening ' s proceedings took
place in connection with the toast of " The Past Masters , " the AV . M . handing to the I . P . M ., Bro . Ferry , a massive silver cup , of the value of about X' 25 , and bearing the following inscription : — "Presented by the members of the Lodge of Perseverance . No . 1745 . to Bro . C . E . Ferry , AA . M . 1887-88 , and Secretary from 1883 to 1887 , as a mark of their respect and approbation of his valuable services .
bth September , 1888 . This handsome present was acknowledged in a most sincere manner by the recipient , and we join the wish of all present that Bro . Ferry may live long to enjoy with his friends many a draught from so exquisite a "loving cup . " It is good to hear such expressions as the AV . M . was able to conscientiously use in making the presentation . "Brother Ferry , " said the AV . M ..
" had performed the multifarious duties of his office as Secretary with such accuracy and precision that no possible fault could be found with him . His books were kept in such a way and were so beautifully written that they were worthy of a place in the British Museum .
