brethren , members of Grand Lodgo , residing in Glasgow , and members of tho Provincial Graud Lodgo of Glasgow , praying for tho appointment of Bro . Pearco . Grand Committee being desirous to give effect to tho election , and as statements had been made impugning the validity of tho resolution in favour of Sir Jamos Bain , remitted tho petition to tho Provincial Grand Lodgo for reconsideration of their

resolntion and for thoir report . Tho Grand Secretary reported that , in accordance with the instructions of tho Grand Committeo , tho Provincial Grand Lodgo had mot and reconsidered their recommendai ion , and that on a division 50 voted for Sir James Bain and 18 for Bro . Pearco , and ho submitted a petition in favour of each . Grand Lodgo then proceeded to tho election , when Sir James Bain was

appointed by 71 votes , 54 voting for Bro . Pearco . A letter had beou submitted to Grand Committeo , in which Bro . Lord Ramsay , M . P ., resigned the Provincial Grand Mastership of Forfarshire , tho duties of which , throngh pressure of other business , ho felt himself unable to perform ; and on tho recommendation of Grand Committeo , Grand Lodge accepted Lord Ramsav ' s resignation , and thanked hia Lordship

for his services . In compliance with a request of tho Provincial Grand Lodge , tho appointment of a successor was deferred . On tho application of tho Lodgo St . James ' s Operative , Edinbnrgh , No . 97 , authority was given that Lodgo to change its designation to Edinburgh St . James . Grand Lodgo was then closed in ample form . — Edinburgh Courant .

Ho announced that everything was in a very satisfactory state as regards Royal Arch Masonry in the Province over which ho presided . There wero several young Lodges in tho Province , whose business was being condncted in a very satisfactory manner ,

and in duo course they might look forward to having Chapters in association with them . Personally he regretted his engagements did not prevent him visiting tho numerous Lodges of tho Province so frequently ns ho desired , but ho had a most energetic Deputy in Cump . Arnold , who gavo him excellent accounts of tho way in which tho duties of Freemasonry wero being carried out . It was intensely

gratifying to him to hear such good accounts , and he sincerely trusted tho standard for good working would bo maintained . Reference was then made to the system of organisation that existed in the Province for tho successful utilisation of tho votes for the several Masonic Charities , and Comp . Arnold suggested that tho question be more ventilated in tho Lodges , as he felt assured very valuable votes

wero lost through non . agreement as to how they should be bestowed . Bro . Greenwood referred to what was being done in this respect between tho Province of Berks and Bucks and that of Surrey , and nrged on the members their obligations to support tho case of tho lad Richard Arthur Grave , whose election must bo secured in October next , aa thafc would be the last chance he would havo of gaining admission into the School . General Brownrigg stated that

as his son , the Rev . Studholmo Brownrigg , had been reappointed Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Berks and Bocks , he would doubtless , from old associations , do everything in his power for Surrey in this matter , and they would assuredly get their quid pro quo in the exchange of votes between the two Provinces . This completing tho business , Provincial Grand Chapter was closed . Tho Companions afterwards lunched together at the Spring Hotel , whero General Brownri gg presided , and gavo tho formal toasts customary on these occasions .

Tho Chapter waa then closed until October , and tho Companions sat down to a very excellent banquet provided by Comp . Wright . Tho M . E . Z . proposed tho initiatory toasts . After which ho remarked that he went out of

the usual course in proposing tho nest toast , thafc was the health of tho Z . elect . Thoy all knew his kind disposition and his ability as a worker , whilo tho interest he takes in Masonic Charity is proverbial . Under his mlo ho was sure they would have a happy and prosperous year . Comp . E . C . Mather , in replying , thanked tho M . E . Z . for hia kind expressions ; ho would do all in his power to keep tho Chapter

together , in fact ho felt hound to seo thafc every link was well rivetted ; he felt proud to bo with them as their M . E . Z . elect ; thoy had always had good working Companions and thorough conviviality , ho hoped this would over continue ; ho thanked them sincerely for electing him . Tho M . E . Z . then proposed tho toasfc of tho Visitors , Comps . E . P . Albert and H . M . Levy , who both acknowledged tho

compliment . Tho M . E . Z . nest proposed tho toasfc of tho P . Z . ' s , who ho hoped to seo among thorn for many years ; two wero absent , bnfc thoso present wore well known and had mado their mark in R . A . Masonry ; no better working Companions could be found in tho Craft . Comp . Barlow returned thanks ; he , as well as tho other P . Z . ' s , was pleased to meet them on each occasion of thoir assembling .

It was essentially gratifying to know how well at all times thoy wero received ; they all hoped to live for many years to bo among them . Before resuming his seat , he would , with great ; prido , propose tho health of the M . E . Z ., whom all could compliment on the excellent manner in which he had performed his duties . Comp . Huggett said ho felt honoured by the toast being proposed by tho

oldest P . Z . ; ho had striven hard to qualify himself for the chair , and from tho first hour ho joined them his associations with tho Chapter had been most pleasant . Tho M . E . Z . then proposed the toast of the H . elecfc Comp . A . L . Leins , whoso services to Freemasonry and tho Royal Arch were well known and appreciated . Comp . Leins , in an excellent speech , responded to tho toast . Tho newly

elected Companions would , with himself , do all in their power for the welfare of tho Chapter . Tho M . E . Z . then proposed tho toast of tho Officers , whoso qualifications wero , ho said , well known ; he hoped each in tnrn would eventually occupy the chair of Z . Comp . Halford acknowledged tho compliment . Comp . Torry proposed the health of tho worthy host , Bro . Wright , who had greatly assisted in tho

foundation of tho Chapter ; to his dear , good wife groat credit was duo for tho comforts thoy enjoyed . Tho Chapter each year gives £ 5 5 s to tho Charities , and although tho subscription is small , they were freo from liability . Ho ( Bro . Terry ) thought ifc right to offer Mrs . Wright some slight testimonial to show that lady tho fooling of esteem in which she wns hold by tho Chapter . Comp . Newton P . Z . fnlly

Stevens , who delivered the addresses to Principals , Officers , and Companions in a most effective manner , and which amply merited the compliments he received for his perfect working . Propositions for exaltation and

joining were received , and the Auditors' report and balance-sheefc adopted . The Chapter was then closed , and the Companions adjourned to banquet . The new proprietors of tho Horns Tavern , Messrs . Smith and King , had made ample and elegant provision for this refreshment , and their liberality and courtesy were warmly acknowledged by all present as tho evening ' s entertainment

proceeded . On the clearance of tho cloth , tho M . E . Z . gave the usual Loyal and Royal Arch toasts , and departing somewhat from the usual programme , followed with that of the Visitors , for whom , in reply , Comp . Fred . Binckes expressed the pleasure they had experienced , both in the Chapter , on account of tho working of the ceremonies of exaltation and installation , and at the table on account of the heartiness of their reception and the good things sot before them (
