BRO . HA * RRY S . FOSTER , M . P ., ' whose portrait we have much pleasure in presenting to our readers , has attained to a position of considerable eminence in the financial world , and is in many other respects a notable man of our times . Though still within the age of 40 years , he has filled many offices of great importance . He has done good work as a

member of the London School Board and of the London County Council , his qualifications for the former bod y being of a high character , and the services he was able to render proportionately great . At the last General Election he was returned as M . P . for the Lowestoft Division of Suffolk . He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical , the Royal Statistical , and the

Geological Societies , as well as of the Society of Arts . To crown all , he has held ( he important office of Sheriff of London , and during his year of office won golden opinions from all sorts and conditions of men . In Masonry his career , so far as it has gone , has been similarly full of great promise . He was initiated in the Covent Garden Lodge , No . 1614 , and at present occupies the post of its S . W . lie is W . M . of the

Temple Lodge , No . 101 , and likewise a member of the Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 ; the Alliance Lodge , No . 1827 ; and the Unity Lodge , No . 71 , Lowestoft . As regards his connection with Royal Arch Masonry , let it suffice if we state that he was installed in the chair of Third Principal of the Bayard Chapter , No . 1615 , on the 6 th inst . From such a record as this we may anticipate great things from Bro . Foster in the future .

BRO . ROBERT HURNS . A choice souvenir of the connection of Robert Burns with the Craft has been issued by the celebrated " Quatuor Coronati" Lodge , No . 2076 , London . It consists of a most interesting paper on " The Masonic Genius of Robert Burns , " by the distinguished Bro . Dr . B . W . Richardson , who is a member of the " Inner

Circle" of this great literary lodge . The particulars , so industriously collected by the Doctor , are both numerous and most suggestive in character , and they go far to confirm the belief that the world owes much more to Masonry for the publication of Bro . Burns ' poems than has hitherto been acknowledged or even dreamt of . Publishers , printers , and subscribers , were

mainly brethren of the " mystic tie , " and chiefly to their support was the "Immortal Bard" incited to appear in print and collect his inimitable poems . Bro . W . Fred . Vernon has written a most reliable " Addendum , " and is dead against the investment of the bard as Poet Laureate of the Canongate Kilwinning Lodge , No . 2 , Edinburgh , in accord with Bro . W . Officer , P . G . D ., who has evidently put the extinguisher

on that part of the story . There are several illustrations , one especially calling for mention , being a two-page engraving of the investment in question , from the painting by Bro . Watson . The work is beautifully bound in cloth , and may be had for a crown from the Secretary , Bro . G . VV . Speth , Lancaster-place , Margate . We may be assured that all the copies will soon be subscribed for .

suffering for several months from consumption , and died at Bognor on the 12 th instant . The funeral took place on Friday , the 17 th inst ., at Norwood Cemetery , a large number of friends following , including members of the Bishopsgate Lodge , Honourable Artillery Company , Bishopsgate Fire Brigade , Salvage Corps , and others .
